  • Tensions ramped up between Iran and the US after President Donald Trump pulled out of the landmark nuclear deal
  • The United States constantly sends messages to Iran to begin negotiations, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said

GENEVA: The United States constantly sends messages to Iran to begin negotiations, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Saturday in a speech broadcast on state television.
Tensions ramped up between Iran and the United States after President Donald Trump pulled out of a landmark nuclear deal with Iran in May and reimposed sanctions on the Islamic Republic last month.
Trump has said he would meet Iran's leaders.
"From one side they try to pressure the people of Iran, on another side they send us messages every day through various methods that we should come and negotiate together," Rouhani said.
He added, "[They say] we should negotiate here, we should negotiate there. We want to resolve the issues... should we see your message?.. or should we see your brutish actions?"
Washington aims to force Tehran to end its nuclear program and its support of militant groups in Syria and Iraq.
US sanctions targeting Iran's oil sector are scheduled to be reimposed in November.
Iran is facing an "economic, psychological and propaganda war", Rouhani said Saturday, pointing to America and Israel as the Islamic Republic's main enemies.

 Reports

Economy News Baghdad

The second phase of US sanctions will begin on November 4. The first phase of the sanctions included an American warning to international companies investing in local industries. The second and most important economic stage of Iran and the international economy is aimed at the importing companies, the Iranian oil or the investor in the development of the oil industry.

After the unilateral decision of the United States to withdraw from the nuclear agreement signed by Iran with the five permanent members of the Security Council and Germany, the positions of the signatories differed, and positions opposed the withdrawal of Washington. After international objections to President Trump's policy, including non-diplomatic "tweets", multiple reactions have been formed on how to deal with the White House approach.

Trump demanded that no deadline be set for monitoring Iran's nuclear program. The agreement included restrictions on Iran's ballistic missile development program, as well as an end to Iran's regional expansion and dominance and its terrorist activities. Iranian authorities have so far rejected US proposals to change the deal, but have not issued clear responses on what is required under the US position. The announcement of a new oil embargo on Iran coincided with the outbreak of internal protests and the deterioration of the value of the Iranian currency against the dollar, to record low levels, while decided to «Cosmo Oil» Japanese not to load Iranian oil from October next.

Iran's economic situation worsened during the summer, with demonstrators boasting that Tehran was spending millions of dollars to support its supporters in some Arab countries rather than developing Iran. The news agency "Fares" news on the 3rd of the day that the Director General of the markets of Tehran Abdul Hussein Rahimi decided to regulate the sale of meat in the capital because of the «scarcity of goods», while the price of meat doubled within a year.

And began to grow and expand a global movement calling for the abolition of the use of the dollar in some international business transactions. On the other hand, statements from the new right-wing groups and American Christian fundamentalists called for not only the oil embargo but also the policy of removing the Iranian political system and replacing it with a new regime. Even before the start of the oil embargo, various positions emerged and public differences began to emerge in Tehran. Hardliners in the council withdrew confidence from the Minister of Economic and Financial Affairs Masoud Karbasian and held him responsible for not deterring the economic collapse.

What is most surprising in the series of contradictory reactions over the past months is the stability of world oil prices within a very narrow range of between $ 70 and $ 75 per barrel of Brent oil. Despite statements by Iranian officials and Revolutionary Guards commanders that they are prepared to cut off shipping across the Strait of Hormuz, it is clear that markets that monitor the geopolitical repercussions of these conflicts are moving into daily speculations in such an atmosphere, raising prices to very high levels if they are able to cut off important oil supplies .

In recent decades, the United States has continued to impose economic sanctions and an oil embargo on "rogue" countries. These sanctions have increased to nearly 2 billion people, and the gross domestic product of the target countries is more than $ 15 trillion. Russia, Iran, Venezuela, Cuba, Sudan, Libya, Zimbabwe, Myanmar, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, North Korea, Iraq, Turkey, Pakistan and China are among the countries covered or still covered by US or UN sanctions.

The reasons for the sanctions varied between disagreements over purely political interests, their use as part of the political / military conflict with the countries concerned, and sanctions for human rights violations and crimes against humanity. As for dozens of people on the US black list, the reasons include drug trafficking, terrorism, money laundering and arms trade for "rogue" countries.

The increasing use of this population and the major countries, specifically China and Russia, has led some to adopt a new financial system for foreign trade not based on the dollar but on the local currency. The new financial system is still in its infancy and is being used only on a small scale, but there are attempts by the BRIX countries, which include Russia, China, India, Brazil and South Africa, to establish an international financial transaction system independent of the current SWIFT system.

The continued blockade of the regional and major countries to adopt new means of financial dealings in the field of oil. The best example of China's position on Iran's sanctions is that it has decided to establish a future market in Shanghai for the oil trade that uses the yuan instead of the dollar. Chinese companies will try to avoid US sanctions, and the market will initially deal with Iranian purchases and avoid other countries. But China's experience remains important if it expands in the future, especially as it is one of the largest importers and consumers of oil. There are many other examples of attempts to use barter (India and Turkey), in addition to the adoption of local currencies to import oil from Iran.

Iran exports 2.4 million barrels a day, while international sanctions imposed under former President Mohammad Ahmadinejad cut exports to 900,000 bpd. After decades of sanctions, Iran has had the experience of avoiding part of the blockade, but sanctions will no doubt be a blow to the country's economic system, as expressed by the demonstrations in the country, not just Tehran.

The most important question is what is Iran's response to the sanctions? Will it accept to negotiate and amend the nuclear agreement? Or will it resort to military means in its response to restricting freedom of navigation in the Bab al-Mandab Strait, or igniting the various Arab fronts under its influence? And what will be the military reaction of Washington and its allies? In the light of these decisions and the nature of the responses, oil prices will take a new direction that will reflect military actions, rather than rhetoric.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Masoud Barzani, the former Kurdistan Region President and leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), has condemned Iran’s bombardment of Iranian Kurdish opposition parties’ headquarters in the city of Koya near Erbil.

In a statement released on Saturday, Masoud Barzani denounced the Iranian attack and called on all sides to resolve their issues through peaceful means, not violence and bombardment.

“I am distraught and saddened by the bombardment of the Kurdistan Democratic Party-Iran (KDP-I) headquarters in Koya city by the Islamic Republic of Iran especially [the bombardment] that left large human casualties and material damages,” Barzani stated.

“I condemn the attack and send my condolences to the families of the martyrs and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded people.”

Barzani called on all sides not to turn the Kurdistan Region into a battlefield for their conflicts because Kurdistan itself faces significant problems and challenges.

The Kurdish leader emphasized that the Kurdish issue could not be resolved through violence, killing, and bombardment. He added that peaceful means are the best ways to address all problems.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning and caused dozens of casualties inside the two parties’ buildings, located near each other. Hospital sources in Koya have told Kurdistan 24 that, so far, 14 died and 42 more were wounded.

In recent years, Iran has repeatedly shelled areas of the Kurdistan Region along its borders, claiming to target Iranian Kurdish opposition groups who have recently resumed their armed struggle after decades of a ceasefire.

Khamenei urges Iran's military to 'scare off' enemy: official website

2 MIN READ

DUBAI (Reuters) - Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Sunday urged Iran’s armed forces to increase their power to “scare off” the enemy, according to his official website, as the country faces increased tension with the United States.

U.S. President Donald Trump in May withdrew from Iran’s nuclear agreement with world powers — a deal aimed at stalling Tehran’s nuclear capabilities in return for lifting some sanctions — and ordered the reimposition of U.S. sanctions that had been suspended under the deal.

“Increase your power as much as you can, because your power scares off the enemy and forces it to retreat,” the website quoted Khamenei as saying at a graduation ceremony for cadets of Iran’s regular armed forces.

“Iran and the Iranian nation have resisted America and proven that, if a nation is not afraid of threats by bullies and relies on its own capabilities, it can force the superpowers to retreat and defeat them,” Khamenei said during a visit to Iran’s Caspian port city of Nowshahr.

State television showed Khamenei watching drills by navy cadets and contacting the commander of naval forces Iran has sent to the Gulf of Aden, an area that suffered frequent piracy a few years ago, and off the coast of Yemen, where the Iran-alligned Houthi movement fights a Saudi-backed government.

“Your mission is valuable and your are able to completely secure the seas all around our dear country Iran with your wisdom and power,” Khamenei told the commander through a videolink.

Saudi Arabia is leading a Sunni Arab coalition fighting the Houthis in the impoverished state on the tip of the Arabian peninsula.

Iran rejects accusations from Saudi Arabia that it is giving financial and military support to the Houthis in the struggle for Yemen, blaming the deepening crisis on Riyadh.

UPDATED: Iran Guards claims responsibility for bombardment in Kurdistan Region

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Sunday claimed responsibility for the missile attacks on headquarters of Iranian Kurdish (Rojhilati) opposition groups in the Kurdistan Region’s town of Koya.

On Saturday morning, Iranian missiles targeted the headquarters of the Kurdistan Democratic Party - Iran (KDP-I) and the Democratic Party of the Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI), as well as an Iranian Kurdish refugee camp in the Erbil Province’s Koya.

In a statement published a day after the incident, the IRGC asserted the opposition groups have led to “widespread insecurity” in Rojhilati provinces and have deprived locals of “safety and peace.”

The attack was carried out using “seven surface-to-surface missiles,” the statement added, without mentioning from where the Iranian army had launched its missiles.

Following the statement, the IRGC gave drone footage of the attack to state-owned Channel One, showing the moment one of the missiles—revealed by Tasnim to be of the Fateh 110 type—struck the headquarters.

According to KDP-I’s statement, the bombardment ‘martyred’ 14 members of the two parties and injured 40 more. The Secretary of KDP-I, Mustafa Mawludi, and his predecessor, Khalid Azizi, were also among those wounded during the attack.

It is the largest attack on the KDP-I’s headquarters since 1996. The party split from PDKI in 2006 after an internal dispute.

The two parties reignited a conflict with the Iranian government in June 2016, 20 years after laying down their weapons to prevent jeopardizing Kurdish gains made in northern Iraq.

Following Saturday’s bombardment, both the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and Kurdistan Parliament condemned the Iranian attack and called on Iranian Kurdish groups to avoid using the Kurdistan Region’s soil to attack neighboring states.

CSM, thanks for the photo of whoop ass.

Sending missles into into another country will get you an entire pantry of whoop ass.  It’s not just Iraq that Iran has so brazingly

shot missles at in the ME.  Saudi Arabia from Yemen and Israel from Syria have also been targeted.  Iran is itching for a ME war, and I believe we might just get one this fall.

It’s interesting that we haven’t heard one chirp from Europe on Iran and it’s shooting missles all over the ME.  If I’m not mistaken, missles technology was part of the Nuclear Deal.  Mmmm, I guess Europe would rather put their head in the sand and ignore the obvious than agree with and support President Trump.  His bluster, in your face style is tough to handle at times but his instincts and his ability to recognize a threat and deal with it head on, is right on!!!!!

I am all for attacking Iranian posts especially after yesterday's missile launch on Kurds, but what can we do about the electricity Iraq is getting from Iran? Can we take over the energy generators and lines too? Honest question because I think this is a huge consideration prior to well deserved retribution on Iran.

Iran announces resumption of electricity exports to Iraq

image-2761.jpg?w=560

aljournal September 9, 2018

Baghdad - Journal News

A spokesman for the Iranian company "Tuaner" for the generation, transmission and distribution of electric power to reach exports to Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq about 1400 MW, with fluctuation of this volume in some days.

Mahmoud Reza Hakki Pham told the Iranian media that the export of electricity is valid as long as local needs are met.

Meanwhile, Hakki Fam confirmed that the country's public network would be supplied with about 5,000 megawatts of new hydroelectric power plants by mid-June 2019.

In early July, the Iranian government announced a suspension of electricity supply to Iraq due to rising domestic consumption in summer, as well as non-payment of bills and rising domestic consumption in the summer.

Iraq was buying about 1,000 megawatts from Iran, via two lines in Diyala north and third in Basra and a fourth in the southern city of Amara.

Great question Carrello.  You bring up a question that brings the entire Iraq-Iran relationship into focus.  They are so intertwined in trade, religion, and politics it’s not so easy as, let’s go bomb Iran into oblivion so they will exit Iraq.  The Sanctions on Iran have hurt many Iraqi’s from trade to banking. A lot and Iraq’s water and electricity come from Iran.  The best scenario would be for Iran to stop their nuclear program and proxy wars and come to the negotiating table.  It’s not going to happen so Iraq really needs to try to decouple from Iran.  They need to be more dependent and do things like building power plants on their own.   That should have been going on the last 10 years but the ball was definitely dropped by Maliki and other politicians who have ripped Iraq off to the tune of over 200 b

To answer your question about electricity, I’ve read where Kuwait and Saudi Arabia are willing to supply Iraq with all the electricity they need.  Of course a better way would be for Iraq to give their currency some value so Investors would want to come into Iraq and rebuild the country after 15 years of war.  I really felt we were on the right track in March and April. There were so many articles on reconstruction, investments, and in general, it is time to get things going.  Then the elections, fraud accusations, recounting ballots, forming a government, protests, Abadi being scapegoated and asked to resign, sanctions, and now missles and threat of more war, civil war.  It’s enogh to make me go back to my cave and wait for the text from Adam in 2024!!!!!!!

Thanks, Pitcher, for your comments. I had not read about Saudi Arabia and Kuwait's ability and willingness to send electricity to Iraq. Heaven forbid anybody in Iraq get solar energy and be independent. Talk about an investment opportunity.

It seems the solutions are so simple and could be so expedient, but corruption and greed don't work that way.  We wait.....

My question is why haven't we heard much from the US about this.  Are we waiting for a particular trigger to do anything??  The additional 100 marines will only go so far.  Is Sadr not willing to ask for any help and as stated blame this all on Abadi??  How far will Malarky and Iran go in order to not lose complete control in Iraq??  Yes the questions can go on and on.

Hey Pitcher I really do think it is that easy.  All Abadi needs to do is pick up the phone and call The Don and say "Don we go a problem will you come give us a hand to get these Iranian miscreants out of our country like you did with ISIS?  Oh and while your at it bring your best sniper to take out Malarky??"

As I said before the people are pissed at Iran and want them gone out of there country.  There is no need for any country to have so much political influence inside another country through the political process by having them elected to the government.  Could you imagine if Mexico or Canada infiltrated the US government this way?

Just my :twocents:
