US “Transferred $1.3bn More” in Cash to Iran

7th September 2016 in PoliticsSecurityUncategorised

By John Lee.

The Obama administration followed up a planeload of $400 million in cash sent to Iran in January with two more such shipments in the next 19 days, totaling another $1.3 billion, according to the Wall Street Journal, citing congressional officials briefed by the U.S. State, Treasury and Justice departments.

The cash payments—made in Swiss francs, euros and other currencies—settled a decades-old dispute over a failed arms deal dating back to 1979.

U.S. officials have acknowledged the payment of the first $400 million coincided with Iran’s release of American prisoners and was used as leverage to ensure they were flown out of Tehran’s Mehrabad on the morning of 17th January.

Iran agreed $10b Airbus deal financing with leasing company
  • Boeing deal has come under pressure from lawmakers in U.S.

Iran expects the U.S. Treasury to grant licenses by the end of this month that should help pave the way for the completion of the purchase of more than 200 aircraft from Boeing Co. and Airbus Group SE, Iran’s deputy transport minister Asghar Fakhrieh Kashan said in Tehran on Sunday.

Iran is trying to upgrade its aging airline fleet and in June signed an agreement with Boeing to buy 80 planes and lease 29 more. But the deal has come under pressure from lawmakers in the U.S. who have discussed various measures to restrict the sale, including prohibiting the Treasury Department from licensing it.

The transaction would be the Chicago-based plane maker’s first in Iran since sanctions on the country were lifted in January and follows a $27 billion agreement with Airbus Group SE for 118 planes. Airbus jets have more than 10 percent U.S. content so they also require export licenses.

“The U.S. should’ve issued the licenses already and they haven’t done that,” Kashan said, adding that they will be granted by the Office of Foreign Assets Control, known as OFAC.

Kashan said Iran has an agreement with a leasing company for $10 billion in financing for the Airbus deal and that it will be signed within days. He didn’t disclose the name of the leasing company or say where it was based. The value of Iran’s deal with Boeing has yet to be finalized and financing talks are ongoing, he said.

“Our latest forecast is that by the end of the current Iranian year (March 2017), we will definitely see a number of those planes, both from Airbus and Boeing, arrive in Iran,” he said.

Obama breaks another promise to ‘save’ the Iran deal

By Post Editorial Board

The Obama administration keeps on breaking its promises on the Iran deal — its promises to the American people, that is.

The latest betrayal: The Treasury Department just lifted key restrictions on Iran’s ability to do business in US dollars and access world financial markets — breaking Team Obama’s explicit vows as it lobbied Congress not to nix the deal.

Iran’s banks weren’t even cut off from the US financial system over the nuclear issue — but over Tehran’s funding of terrorism, its regional aggression and so on.

Which makes another Treasury move even more squalid: It will now also let foreign firms and branches of US firms do business with Iranian groups like the Revolutionary Guard.

The Guard is the chief conduit for Tehran’s support of terrorism, tied to numerous plots, including one in DC aimed at a Saudi envoy. And it’s also a prime force helping Syria’s Bashar al-Assad massacre civilians in his bloody bid to keep power.

It was behind the kidnapping of US sailors in January, the serial harassment of US Navy ships and even last month’s arrest of another Iranian-American in Iran.

Yet the Obama Treasury is making it easier for the Revolutionary Guard to do business — as part of an official US drive to boost Iran’s economy in the name of preserving the nuclear deal.

This, when a Foundation for Defense of Democracies report last week noted much of Tehran’s windfall from the deal has gone to Iran’s military, including its nuclear and missile programs and its terror operations.

At least Team Obama has only three months left to shower more gifts on Iran. But what of the next president?

Donald Trump slams the Iran deal every chance he gets. Hillarious Clinton promises to be tough in “enforcing” it, but publicly backs President Obama’s signature foreign-policy achievement. If she wins, let’s all hope this is another of those issues where her real position isn’t her public one.

It's getting scarier every day as this unfolds. The wiki leaks documents are finally showing the press what alot of us have known for over 4 years, and that is that obummer and crooked Hillarious are looking for complete domination of the world. I have never been a conspiracy theorist but the stuff coming out and the arab spring sure points to just that. They are making sure that leaders around the world, especially the middle east are beholden to the u.s. and with the open borders around the world, will put all of us on our knees and take away every single right we have as citizens. The Iranian deal has nothing to do with an rv for any of us. We are not waiting for iran to do any specific thing that tips the scale in either direction for an rv. I have asked myself this question and that is this. Why if crooked Hillarious gets into office would she want to any of us to become millionaires, etc. My answer came today in the email dump and that was that she doesnt and wouldnt. The emails talked of catholics being crooked strange people, and the world wide open borders, and so many many things that my mind cannot even wrap around. The depth of corruption in her and those around her including republicans is absolutely frightening. WE THE PEOPLE WILL NO LONGER EXIST AS WE DO NOW IF SHE IS ELECTED.

My reasoning is Iran and Iraq do trade together- they are both joined at the hip. I think the recent adjustment to the dinar is in anticipation for the rial to gain value to be closer to the dinar. Once they are near to each other in value then I expect the biggie to happen. I can't see Iran and Iraq revaluing at different times as this would cause trade disparities - this weekend is going to be very telling

I think we witness two rising stars at once - imagine the positive effects that would have on the global economy

I think you might be right........It sure seems that way 9 months later. It's looking that way.

US House approves Iran sanctions law and impose sanctions on Syria
[Where - Follow - up]
and approved by US lawmakers on Tuesday to two bills reiterates one of sanctions on Iran for ten years and impose other new sanctions on Syria in the confirmation of the design lawmakers to play a strong role in the Middle East policy , regardless of who held the post in the White House.
The House voted by a majority of 419 votes to extend sanctions law against Iran for ten years. The law was passed for the first time in 1996 to impose sanctions on investments in Iran 's energy sector and to deter Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons.
The House of Representatives also approved the vote on the bill that would impose sanctions on the Syrian government and its supporters, including Russia and Iran to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity.
He was for sanctions law against Iran due to expire at the end of 2016 if it is not renewed. Must still be approved by the Senate on legislation and signed by President Barack Obama to become law.
The Obama administration and other world powers have reached an agreement in the last year , Iran agreed to restrict its nuclear program in exchange for frighten sanctions.
But lawmakers in the House of Representatives said they wanted to stay Legislation valid for sending a strong message to Iran that the United States would respond to any provocations by Iranian and grant any American president the ability to re - impose sanctions quickly if Tehran had violated the nuclear deal.
Rep . Eliot Engel largest democratic member of the Foreign Affairs Committee , a patron of the bill , "even after the difficult election here home and change from occupying power, the US leadership on the world stage will not stumble. "
he described the Republican Rep . Ed Royce , the main sponsor of the bill , Iran sanctions Act as a " critical tool. "
he continued , saying , " the expiration of the law was the will exacerbate the damage caused by the nuclear threat, signed by President agreement and it gives the message that the United States is no longer opposed to the destructive role of Iran in the Middle East. "
the vote came a week after the election of Republican Donald Trump , president of the United States. Republicans opposed the nuclear deal in Congress unanimously in addition to about 20 lawmakers democratically Trump strongly criticized.
, Said lawmakers from both parties they hope continued bipartisan support to take a tough line against Iran during the reign of the new president.

Air bus company confirmed that the US government granted a second license for the sale of nearly 100 aircraft to Iran
Air bus company confirmed that the US government granted a second license for the sale of nearly 100 aircraft to Iran

Roudao - Erbil

company "Airbus" confirmed that the US government "granted a second license for the sale of nearly 100 aircraft to Iran, despite congressional opposition."

A spokesman for the giant aircraft industry, Jack Darcy, in a statement on Wednesday: "We can confirm that we have received the second license from OFAC (continued uS Department of the Treasury) relating to the agreement signed in Paris in January 2016 ".

He added that the new license" will allow us to continue to negotiate the purchase with Iran air of agreement (lines Iranian air). "

Old Thread if anyone wants to view history..
Iraq aims to ease US-Iran tensions
Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi said Baghdad will send teams to Tehran and Washington to calm tensions. (File/AFP) Updated 22 May 2019 ARAB NEWS May 21, 201915:48     Follow @arabnews Iraqi delegations to visit both countries “US and Iranian officials have assured us that they do not want to go to war,” says PM       BAGHDAD: Iraq will send delegations to Tehran and Washington over the next few days in an attempt to ease tensions in the region, Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi said on Tuesday.
“Iraq has conducted high-level contacts (between the US and Iran), and its vision is very close to the European vision to resolve the crisis in the region,” Abdul Mahdi said.
“US and Iranian officials have assured us that they do not want to go to war. So we will send delegations to Washington and Tehran.”
Tensions started to rise between the two countries after the US withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, otherwise known as the Iran nuclear deal, in May 2018.
Since then, the US has imposed economic sanctions on Iran. US President Donald Trump warned on Monday that Iran would be met with “great force” if it attacked American interests in the Middle East.
Iraq has been a battleground for the US and Iran since 2003. Both countries enjoy significant influence in the region.
Iraqi leaders believe that their country could become the first confrontation zone if war breaks out between the two nations.
“Iraq is in the stage of transferring messages between Washington and Tehran as we try to defuse the crisis between the two sides,” Abdul Mahdi said.
“It is our responsibility to defend Iraq and its people, and secure them from the threat of war.”
During a visit to Baghdad earlier this month, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told Abdul Mahdi that targeting any US interests in Iraq will be dealt with militarily.
A Katyusha rocket was fired on Sunday into Baghdad’s Green Zone, which houses government offices and embassies, including the US Embassy.
The rocket fire came days after the US evacuated staff from Iraq, citing threats from Iran. It was not clear who was behind the attack, which caused no casualties.
The attack “embarrassed” the Iraqi government, which has pledged to secure diplomatic missions and protect US interests, senior Iraqi officials told Arab News.
The Iraqi president, prime minister and speaker of Parliament, as well as heads of political blocs and commanders of armed factions linked to Iran, have held meetings over the past few days.
“We’re working together to invest our relations with the two parties (the US and Iran) in order to ease the tension and find peaceful solutions,” Ahmad Al-Assadi, head of an Iraqi parliamentary bloc, told Arab News.
“The outbreak of war between America and Iran will cause great damage to the entire region. Iraq will be the biggest loser because it’s in the heart of the storm.”
During the meetings, political leaders and representatives of armed factions linked to Iran agreed on a 12-point document that aims “to keep Iraq away from the ongoing struggle between the US and Iran by all possible means.” Al-Assadi said the Iraqi Parliament will vote on the approved document.
Dozens of paramilitary troops associated with Iran operate in Iraq, and present the biggest challenge for the Iraqi government and political leaders.
“We agreed that no armed faction is allowed to ignite the war inside Iraq for any reason, and whoever violates this deal will be considered our enemy,” one of the leaders linked to Iran, who participated in the meetings, told Arab News.
“We don’t want to be blamed for this war, but the situation may change if the US insists on starting this war inside Iraq.”
