Iranian official calls for negotiations with Washington in Iraq

Europeans struggle to preserve Iran nuclear accord

The world powers struggling to preserve anuclear deal with Iran are facing an increasingly uphill battle, with a new deadline from Tehran on finding a solution to make up for last year’s unilateral US withdrawal from the accord and the increasing economic hardship that has put on mullah regime, AP reported.

After Iran notified Britain, Russia, China, the European Union, France and Germany of its intentions in a letter, Iranian President HassanRouhani said in a televised address Wednesday that the nations have 60 days to come up with a plan to shield his country from the sanctions imposed by US President Donald Trump after he pulled Washington out of the deal.

“If the five countries join negotiations and helpIran to reach its benefits in the field of oil and banking, Iran will return to its commitments according to the nuclear deal,” Rouhani said.

The 2015 deal, intended to keep Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, promised economic incentives in exchange for restrictions on its nuclear activities. Despite efforts so far by the others to keep the deal from collapsing, Iran’s economy has been struggling and its currency has plummeted in value after the re-imposition of US sanctions.

Later Wednesday, Trump issued an executive order announcing new sanctions targeting Iran’s steel, aluminum, copper and iron sectors, which provide foreign currency earnings for Tehran.

Many international corporations are reluctant to risk running afoul of Washington and have severed ties with Iran; a complicated barter-type system set up by the Europeans to allow their businesses to skirt direct financial transactions with Iran — and thus evade possible US sanctions — is not yet finalized.

Iran has continued abiding by the stipulations of the deal, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency, but had been expressing increasing frustration with the inability of the Europeans to provide economic relief, culminating with Wednesday’s threat to resume higher enrichment of uranium in 60 days unless new terms are negotiated.

Despite Rouhani’s threatening rhetoric and the now-ticking clock, Europeans were cautiously hoping the Iranian president was not on the verge of breaking the deal but instead seeking to show strength domestically as the economy slumps.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said his office had been in contact with all the others involved in the Iran deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or JCPOA, since the announcement to see what could be done to get Tehran to back down.

“Our opinion is and remains: We want to preserve the agreement, in particular to preventIran from coming into possession of nuclear weapons,” he told reporters. “We don’t need further escalation in the region.”

Similarly, French Defense Minister Florence Parly told BFMTV television that “nothing would be worse than Iran leaving this deal.”

“We absolutely want to keep this agreement alive,” Parly said.

At a meeting with US Secretary of State MikePompeo in London, British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt called Iran’s threat “unwelcome” and urged it not to take “further escalatory steps,” while emphasizing Britain was not ready to give up on the JCPOA.

“For as long as Iran keeps its commitments then so, too, will the United Kingdom,” he said.

Hunt said Britain and the US agreed on the need to confront the threat from Iran, but “it’s no secret we have a different approach on how best to achieve that.”

Pompeo was restrained in his own assessment of the letter that Iran sent to the JCPOA group outlining its intentions.

“I think it was intentionally ambiguous,” he said. “We’ll have to wait to see what Iran’s actions actually are. They have made have made a number of statements about actions they have threatened to do in order to get the world to jump.”

In his television address, Rouhani also tried a gambit designed to hit a sore spot for Europe, over the issue of migration and drug-smuggling.

Noting that Iran now cooperates on issues like controlling immigration and targeting Afghan opium and hashish traffickers, he said: “You are obliged... for your own security, for protecting your youths against drugs as well as controlling influx of immigrants.”

There was no immediate response from officials in Europe, which has seen an influx of refugees and migrants from the Middle East in recent years.

China, a key Iranian ally and trading partner, suggested that Washington’s recent decision to deploy an aircraft carrier group and a bomber wing to the Middle East to confront unspecified threats from Tehran had added fuel to the fire.

“We regret that the US has further aggravated the tension on the Iranian nuclear issue,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said. “We call on all parties concerned to exercise restraint, strengthen dialogue and avoid escalating tensions.”

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov went a step further, saying the situation surrounding the fate of the 2015 nuclear accord has been complicated by “irresponsible behavior” from Washington.

After meeting in Moscow with his Iranian counterpart Mohammed Javad Zarif, Lavrov reaffirmed Russia’s support system" rel="">support for the deal and blamed the US for undermining it.

“The US is to blame for the situation and it makes it difficult for both Iran to fulfill its obligations and... for the general state of the nuclear non-proliferation regime,” Lavrov said.

Zarif insisted that Iran’s decision to partially withdraw from certain provisions did not violate the agreement, and asserted it was provoked byUS actions toward Iran.

He also said Iran will uphold its obligations if European signatories to the deal uphold theirs.

The old guard is flailing around on the ground like the dying fish it is.

Iraqi party: former Prime Minister and Sulaimani are preparing to drop Abdul Mahdi hit

Iraq's Umma Party leader Mithal al-Alusi said on Tuesday there was a project led by a former prime minister of Iraq and the commander of the Quds Force in Iran's Revolutionary Guards, Qassem Soleimani, to topple the current government headed by Adel Abdul Mahdi.

"The deep state of the deep state foundations and the deep interests of the state, the financial corruption of millions of dollars and influence lies with Adel Abdul Mahdi, as much as possible, and aware that the latter can not be changed through the House of Representatives," Alusi said.

He said that "these people now want a US or Israeli strike in Iraq, after which there is a security breach and then work on mass mobilization, religious and militia, and here the government falls."

"This project is led by one of the former prime ministers, with the blessing and support system" rel="">support of the commander of the Iranian Quds Force, Qassem Soleimani," the senior Iraqi politician said.

US officials have said earlier that their country's intelligence had identified "multiple and serious threats" from Iran and its forces primarily against US forces in Iraq, and said there were also concerns about US forces in Syria and neighboring seas.

Iraq Reduces Imports From Iran By 45 Percent

Iraq has substantially curtailed imports from Iran, according to an economic daily published in Tehran.

The report says part of the restriction on Iranian imports stem from general bans on a range of products, while part of it is due to targeted bans on Iranian imports.

The report did not specify what kind of products Iraq has banned, but previously Baghdad had stopped Iranian cement imports. Difficulty in payment system caused by U.S. sanctions could be a major reason for the reduction.

Latest statistics from Iran’s customs show that non-oil exports to Iraq during March 21-April 20 period was $389 million, while in the previous 30-day period the value of Iranian exports to Iraq stood at $722 million.

In the previous Iranian year (March 21, 2018-March 20, 2019), Iran exported close to $9 billion of products to Iraq, which was 37 percent higher than in the previous year.

Iraq is the second largest market for Iranian exports, with China occupying the top spot. Almost one quarter of Iran’s exports go to Iraq.

Before the withdrawal of the United States from the 2015 nuclear agreement, Iran and Iraq had targeted to have $20 billion annual trade.

Iranian officials have been raising the prospects of more trade with Iraq in recent months, to counter the impact of U.S. sanctions on their economy.

Apart from non-oil, natural and manufactured products, Iran sells electricity and natural gas to Iraq. During the last Iranian fiscal year that trade reached $3 billion.

Well, I guess China will learn to deal with another 15% tarrifs placed on it’s goods. Maybe it’s time to shift our global companies to another 3rd world country.  How does made in Vietnam or India sound.

BTW, that is a dumb statement by China.  The ME is already unstable in part thanks to Iran. Most of the conflicts are a direct result of Iran’s militias, and weapons.  700 rockets fired into Israel last weekend, probably supplied to Hamas by Iran.

US Carrier Arrives at Red Sea After Passing Suez Canal

US Carrier Arrives at Red Sea After Passing Suez Canal

ERBIL - The Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) has reportedly arrived at the Red Sea after it passed through Egypt's Suez Canal on Thursday, the Suez Canal Authority has confirmed.

The US has ordered the deployment of its aircraft carrier strike group and bomber to the Middle East to send an "unmistakable" message to warn Iran of retaliatory actions if Tehran attacks its interests or allies in the region.

"ABECSG has been conducting operations in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations for several weeks, but expedited their transit to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) to protect U.S. forces and interests in the region," the US Navy said in a statement, as quoted by USNI News.

"ABECSG will be positioned by CENTCOM where it will best be able to protect U.S. forces and interests in the region and to deter any aggression."

Earlier on Wednesday, a pro-Iranian Hashd al-Shaabi commander in the Iraqi province of Diyala, Jabar al-Ma'mouri, threatened to declare war against the US forces if Washington targets Iran.

The Hashd al-Shaabi commander, according to Iran International, said that the Shi'ite militias will respond if the US forces attack Iran, warning that "the Middle East is approaching a dangerous tsunami that is monitored by the Zionist regime."

US President Donald Trump urged the Iranian leadership to sit down and dialogue with him about abandoning Tehran 's nuclear program, pointing out not to be ruled out military confrontation given the tension between the two countries.
"We have information that you do not want to know," Trump told a news conference at the White House. "There are serious threats, and we have to provide a tremendous amount of security for this country and many other places."
Asked if there was a risk of a military confrontation with the US military in the region, Trump said: "I imagine you can always say that, is not that right? I do not want to say no, but I hope it does not happen. The world is loaded with weapons and we do not want to do anything. "
"What they need to do is contact me and sit down, we can reach a fair agreement, all we want from them is not to have nuclear weapons, and this is not a big demand ... and we will help them get back to a better position."
"If they do, we will be open to talk to them," he said.
On more than one occasion, the US president expressed his willingness to meet the Iranian leaders, but to no avail, and renewed that appeal in his conversation with reporters.

The US commander in charge of the US Navy in the Middle East said today that US intelligence indicating a threat from Iran would not prevent him from sending an aircraft carrier across the Strait of Hormuz if needed.

Admiral Jim Malloy, commander of the fifth US-based Bahrain-based fleet, did not say whether he would send the offensive crew to Abraham Lincoln's strategic waterway off Iran, where five of the world's oil is spent.

The group, which was accelerated in the Middle East by the administration of President Donald Trump to warn Iran, moved through the Suez Canal to the Red Sea on Thursday and is now under the leadership of Malawi.

"If I need to make it pass from the strait, I will do it ... I am not restricted in any way, and I have no difficulty with any," Malloy said in an interview with Reuters.

A form of operation anywhere in the Middle East. "

I don't know about ya'll, but I feel we are in the midst of an incredible time.  Iraq must make some very important choices right now.  The Globalist Cabal appears to be falling and Iraq. because of debt has been much aligned with them. We see this in the articles describing Solar Power IMF BS.. when natural gas is free for them!   Iraq, is now going to Russia and China for support when  (OH Wow The US is not going to sway on these sanctions.)  Iraq has been able to skate for 17 years pulling the pour me BS and now the rubber is meeting the pavement.  There is no way way Iraq can provide the needed elctricity by summer.   Billion have been squandered in corruption.  I have a feeling there is going to be BLOOD on the Streets.

US report: Washington's preparations against Iran are similar to what happened before the invasion of Iraq

Political | 09:38 - 10/05/2019

image

Follow - up - the balance of News
magazine "Foreign Policy" published a report for each of Michael Hirsch and Lara Seligmann, it says that the Trump administration says it does not want war with Iran, but many of its actions say something else.
In the year since President Donald Trump withdrew from the nuclear deal with Iran in 2015, his administration has raised tensions by re-imposing sanctions on Iran, stifling Iran's oil exports, and then classifying the Revolutionary Guard As a terrorist group, and recently sending a strike force including an aircraft carrier to the Gulf.
The authors note that as a reaction, Iran has said it will begin to partially withdraw from the nuclear agreement, which Iran and other signatories have adhered to so far, "noting that this is a move that Trump critics fear would use it to justify an attack on Iran.
"It is clear that Trump's policy toward Iran was signed by national security adviser John Bolton, who has always called for regime change in Tehran and was a key figure in pushing for war in Iraq two decades ago," the magazine says.
According to the report, "Observers see a similarity between what is happening now and what happened during the period of preparation for the 2003 invasion of Iraq, not least the presence of Bolton himself, this time in a stronger position than his position in 2003, and the concern is that Bolton was in late 2002 and beginnings 2003, was an agent for the secretary of state. He was war-weary and accused of manipulating intelligence to justify the invasion. In 2015, he said he regretted his role in what was seen as a strategic disaster.
"It was Bolton, not President and Defense Minister Patrick Chanahan, who announced this week the dispatch of the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln, the striking force that included four 52 Middle East bombers, to send a clear and unambiguous message to the Iranian regime that An attack on American interests, or the interests of our allies, will be met with a non-compromising force). "
The report notes that "there are reports that the Trump administration is acting on intelligence information about Iranian threats made by the Netanyahu government, which also has a history of trying to incite a military aggression against Iran."
According to the authors, Bolton's role in the deployment announcement shocked several national security professionals in Washington. "I never heard that it happened," said Greg Thilman, a former State Department intelligence official who bumped into Bolton when he worked under his command before the invasion of Iraq. , It is unprecedented ... that a national security adviser used his authority to send this statement, this did not happen even in the invasion of Iraq, "while a spokesman for Bolton did not respond directly to the request to comment.
"After America's 16-year invasion of Iraq, we are turning back to another unnecessary conflict in the Middle East, based on a wrong and misleading logic," the report states.
The report points out that Trump's critics believe Iran is more dangerous because it is bigger and more militarily powerful than Iraq, and that the nuclear agreement with Iran would have maintained more peace than the UN sanctions against Saddam two decades ago.
"It seems to me a clear effort (from the US) to provoke Iran to carry out an attack. There is a lot of similarity with Iraq. When Iraq was under pressure to allow UN inspectors to inspect its facilities and dismantle missiles, Change the thing, and I expect that the same thing will happen now, Iran was committed to the terms of the nuclear agreement, it is America that did not comply. "
"The difference between Iraq in 2003 and Iran today is that, at least until now, there seems to be no plan for an American invasion, but critics like Thilman see a provocation similar to the Bush administration's provocation to Saddam, Iraq under the pretext. "
"I do not know if this is like the Iraq war, because Bolton wants a war with Iran and is looking for a chance," the magazine quoted former Pentagon official Lauren Dejong Schulman, who currently works for the New American Security Center, as saying. Bolton found that the Pentagon "responds to its priorities and interests quickly, without discussion, and wants people to realize that it is directing US policy toward Iran."
According to the report, the national security adviser did not conceal his continued desire to change the regime in Tehran. In an article he wrote in 2015, he wrote that "the real solution for the Malian nuclear weapons is to get rid of the mullahs themselves." He said that recently, "I do not think you'll have more celebrations of the revolution you're going to enjoy," he said in a videotape published by the White House, addressed to Iranian spiritual leader Ali Khamenei.
The Wall Street Journal reported in January that Bolton had asked the Pentagon to provide Iranian military targets to the White House after people fired mortars in Baghdad.
The magazine reveals that there is some evidence that since the appointment of Bolton, he saw Iran's confrontation as his main agenda, and sought to prevent opposition in Iranian affairs, even though the task of the National Security Adviser is to be honest broker between different views, Trump, who was reportedly reluctant to appoint Bolton at the beginning of his administration, dismissed former national security adviser HR McMaster and came to Bolton weeks before he withdrew from the nuclear deal. Both McMaster and then-Secretary of State Rex Tilerson tended to find a way to keep the nuclear agreement Iran, and was Tillerson was later dismissed to open the way for the most hawkish Mike Pompeo.
The report quoted US officials as saying that the request to move the pieces came from the Central Command, but left to the White House to announce it. The spokesman for the Central Command (CENTCOM), Navy Commander Bill Arban: "Central Command began to develop a demand for troops after close and clear indicators That Iranian forces and proxy forces are preparing for a possible attack on US forces in the region. "
"The new Central Command chief, Gen. Kenneth McKenzie, appears to be in line with Bolton about Iran's threat to America and its allies. He spent half of his 30-minute speech in Washington on Wednesday ringing the alarm about Tehran's (malignant) activities and global ambitions," the authors say.
"Iran is the most important long-term threat to stability in the central command operations area," McKenzie said, adding that while Tehran was responsible for the deaths of more than 600 US troops in Iraq, while some critics criticized troop movements The last American in the region, as a mere symbolic review of power, McKinsey issued an implicit threat that America would not hesitate to use lethal force.
"While we are not seeking war, Iran should not confuse our deliberate policy with our unwillingness to act," McKinsey said. "We are deploying a force of experience and readiness, giving it the rigors, the best equipment and training in the world."
The report finds that although Shanahan told Congressmen on Wednesday that Congress had reached "very high credible intelligence" on Friday about an imminent Iranian threat, the administration did not provide details, raising some questions raised about two decades ago. At the time, a number of foreign intelligence experts accused Bolton of manipulating information about Iraq to justify his hard-line views and threatening those who disagreed with him.
"The style of behavior that I saw at Bolton at the time and later was that he established a good record in the selection of intelligence that serves any cause he wants to support," the two authors quoted Thulman as saying. "Bolton's record is terrible," Trump says. Details, and not many questions when it comes to intelligence briefings. "
The Foreign Policy concludes its report by pointing out that Bolton's performance in the run-up to the Iraq war caused him to be accused by Democratic Senator Joe Biden at a congressional hearing to consider Bolton's nomination as UN Ambassador in May 2005.

Iran continues to escalate its tone towards the United States, which has called on the regime in Tehran to sit on the negotiating table to negotiate a new nuclear deal.

US President Donald Trump said on Thursday he was not ruling out a military confrontation with Iran, calling on the regime there to negotiate a new nuclear deal.

Iran's response to Trump's statement was not delayed, as the deputy commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guards said Tehran would not hold talks with the United States, adding that Washington "would not dare to take military action," Reuters reported.

"We can not rule out a military confrontation with Iran," Trump told reporters. "The Iranian leaders should contact me and sit down to talk to conclude a good agreement that will help them get out of their economic crisis."

The comments came after the United States announced the dispatch of a carrier aircraft and bombers "B52" to the Persian Gulf, because of Tehran's threats.

Earlier, US Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Joseph Danford said the decision to send the US aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln to the Gulf was "to deter the Iranian threat in the region."

The US envoy on Iran, Brian Hawk, said sending his country to an aircraft carrier was not a political message but a "self-defense after threats of hostile action."

"We have seen threats that the Iranian regime was considering hostile action and we sent the Lincoln aircraft carrier to be ready for any attack," Hawk said in a press statement.

Sallar Mahmoud, adviser to President Barham Salih, stressed the need to take care of conflicts between the countries of the region.

My opinion on the "electricity" is the Nauti Arabians and KoolAidis are READAE', WILLING AND ABLE to "meet" the Bicraqi Iraqi NEEDS in a greater capacity THAN in the past. Electricity HAS ALWAYS been short during "heat' AND "sand" "season" WHEREAS the few "connections" would greater serve the Bicraqi Iraqi electrical needs THAN TODAY. The Spanction exemptions to the Bicraqi Iraqi considered ALL THIS AND the option to PRONTO TONTO on the Nauti Arabian AND KoolAidi electrical supply IS a NO BRAINER AND EASY AND QUICK TO APPLY. The Bicraqi Iraqi ARE PAID STOOGES AND OBSTRUCTIONISTS AT THE HANDS OF the Insanians AND so the "deal" WAS NOT APPLIED.

Are you saying the Iraqis did NOT take the offer of electricity to be supplied by the Saudis and the Kuwaitis, and instead are sticking with the Iranians to supply their electricity?
