The US State Department has warned the Iraqi government not to abide by US sanctions against Iran.

State Department spokeswoman Heather Neuert said in a press statement that all violators of the sanctions regime could themselves be subject to sanctions, asserting that her country would continue to prosecute states for any breach of its sanctions against Iran.

This comes after Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi said that Baghdad partially takes into account US sanctions against Iran and refuses to use the dollar in its dealings with Tehran.

America threatens Iraq to breach its sanctions against Iran
[Ayna-Follow]
The US State Department threatened the Iraqi government if it refused to comply with US sanctions against Iran, saying that violators of the sanctions regime could themselves be subject to sanctions.
State Department spokeswoman Heather Noyert commented on Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi's comments on continued trade with Iran, saying that violators of the sanctions regime could themselves be subject to sanctions.
"You know our warnings about Iran and trade with them, and we will continue to prosecute countries for any breach of the sanctions we impose [against Iran]," Nuerte told a news conference last night.
Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said on Monday that Baghdad partially takes into account US sanctions against Iran and refuses to use the dollar in its dealings with Tehran.
Last Thursday, the Central Bank of Iraq (CBE) notified commercial banks of a ban on dollar transactions with Iranian lenders under US sanctions. At the same time, the Central Bank of Iraq has not stopped using the euro in dealing with Iran, which, he says, depends on the requirements of the ECB and correspondent banks.
The United States has since last week imposed large-scale sanctions on Iran, which it had suspended earlier, after a comprehensive joint action plan on Iran's nuclear program was reached in 2015.
US President Donald Trump announced in early May Washington's withdrawal from the agreement With Iran on its nuclear program, and later decided to reinstate all sanctions imposed on Tehran, including secondary sanctions, that affect other countries dealing with Iran.
Iraq annually purchases goods from neighboring Iran for up to $ 6.6 billion.
In addition to foodstuffs, Iran supplies cars and spare parts to the Iraqi market, as well as household appliances.
Every year, two to three million Iranians visit Iraq, an important source of foreign currency entering the country.
The United States describes Iraq as one of its key allies in the Middle East. After its invasion in 2003, it provided some weapons and trained security forces to fight the terrorist.

Iran steals Iraq's money to face U.S. sanctions: Economists

Economists said that Iran will try to save itself after the re-imposing of the U.S. sanctions through the devaluation of the Iraqi dinar.

They pointed out that Iran is currently implementing a suspicious plan in order to get U.S dollars from Iraq, adding that this act has led to the devaluation of the Iraqi dinar.

The economists noted that the Iranian currency has become worthless after Iraqi banks have decided to abide by the renewed U.S. sanctions on Iran.

Iraqi dinar has witnessed a decline in its value against the U.S. dollar as its exchange rate reached 1,190 against one U.S. dollar.

Economists stressed that the decline of the Iraqi dinar value occurred after Iranian traders purchased hard currency through their agents in Iraq after the re-imposing of the U.S. sanctions.

Experts called on the government of Haider al-Abadi to take quick steps to prevent the devaluation of the Iraqi currency, as well as confronting plans that aim to harm Iraq's economy.

They said that Iranian traders began immediately to purchase hard currency from the Iraqi markets after the Iraqi Central Bank issued a formal directive to banks to stop dealing with Iran in U.S. dollars.

Economist Majid al-Suri said that Iran is exploiting Iraq to get U.S. dollars after the re-imposing of the U.S. sanctions.

Suri warned that Tehran is implementing a plan that would harm Iraq's economy, especially after the Iraqi government position regarding the U.S. sanction on Iran.

He pointed out that Iran will use counterfeit local currency to get U.S. dollars after the Iranian riyal became worthless inside and outside Iraq.

Observers told The Baghdad Post that a number of Iraqi banks and foreign exchange companies have begun to send U.S. dollars to Iran.

They called on the Iraqi government to take serious actions to stop the Iranian plan that aim to steal Iraq's wealth of hard currency, noting that the Iranian plan will have a significant negative impact on the Iraqi economy.

On August 6, The United States has re-imposed its economic sanctions against Iran that were lifted under a 2015 nuclear accord.

The sanctions are a consequence of U.S President Donald Trump’s decision in May to withdraw from an international deal that sought to limit Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for easing pressure on the country’s shaky economy.

Iraq's Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said his government would only respect the dollar ban in transactions with Iran.

“I did not say we abide by the sanctions, I said we abide by not using dollars in transactions. We have no other choice,” Abadi said during a press conference in Baghdad.

Self-Sacrifice Most Important Power of Iran: FM Zarif

August 15, 2018 - 18:00
Zarif.jpg

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Wednesday met a group of former prisoners who had been jailed either by the former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein during the war he imposed on Iran or by the regime of former despotic Shah of Iran before the 1979 Revolution.

The friendly meeting was held to mark the anniversary of the return of freed prisoners to their homeland after serving years in the Iraqi jails during the war in the 1980s.

Addressing the former prisoners who were all staff members of the Foreign Ministry, the Iranian top diplomat said the Ministry is proud that 40 percent of its staffs are war veterans.

Among our staff members and managers, there are people who served terms in the former Iranian regime’s jails for their revolutionary cause as well as honourable former prisoners of the Iran-Iraq war and those taken captive by counter-revolutionary groups, he noted.

The Iranian foreign minister went on to say that the spirit of self-sacrifice is the most significant power of the Islamic Republic which has been preserved among the people, serving as a huge social capital for the whole country.

“Despite some difficulties in their daily lives, the Iranian people have remained steadfast in protecting their country and independence by drawing on their great culture, resistance and sacrifice,” he said.

Zarif then pointed out that the countries which are under the patronage of a foreign power and equipped with arsenals filled with modern weaponry lack a great capital called “people”, which Iran boasts.

He said he is certain that if necessary, the Iranian people will prove they are still the most important element of their country’s national power. “We, the Iranian officials of the Islamic Republic, are duty-bound to do whatever in our power to preserve this valuable capital.”

During the meeting, a number of former war prisoners also expressed their views on a range of issues.

Abadi faces US wrath at U-turn on Iran sanctions

1283971-1440472313.jpg?itok=fw__hcbA

  • Iran has maintained close ties to Iraq's government since the 2003 U.S.-led invasion toppled Saddam Hussein, Tehran's archenemy
  • The administration says the renewed sanctions are meant to pressure Tehran to halt its alleged support for international terrorism

BAGHDAD: Failure by Iraq to comply fully with tough new US economic sanctions against Iran would be insane, analysts told Arab News on Tuesday.
Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi risked incurring US wrath after contradicting himself in the space of a few hours over whether his country would comply.
Amid diplomatic maneuvers, as he negotiates for a second term in office after divisive and contested elections, Abadi offended both Tehran and Washington with conflicting statements on the US sanctions, which were reimposed last week.
First, the prime minister said that while Iraq disapproved of the new sanctions, it would reluctantly comply. “We don’t support the sanctions because they are a strategic error, but we will comply with them,” he said.
“Our economic situation is also difficult and we sympathize with Iran. But. at the same time, I will not make grand slogans that destroy my people and my country just to make certain people happy.”
His position provoked anger in Iran. An intended visit to Tehran on Tuesday to discuss the issue was canceled, and Abadi’s office denied that the visit had even been planned.
There was also criticism inside Iraq, especially from groups close to Tehran, such as the Asaib Ahl Al-Haq and Badr paramilitary movements.high_19.png
Within hours, however, Abadi had reversed his position. “I did not say we abide by the sanctions, I said we abide by not using dollars in transactions. We have no other choice,” Abadi told a news conference in Baghdad.
Asked if Baghdad would stop imports of commodities, appliances and equipment by government companies from Iran, he said the matter was still being reviewed. “We honestly have not made any decision regarding this issue until now,” he said.
Michael Knights, the Lafer Fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, told Arab News: “Iraq can’t afford to be cut off from the dollar-based global financial system, so it makes sense to avoid sanctioned Iranian financial entities. Iraq should also protect its dollar reserves.
“These are the only sane options for a country that desperately needs international investment.”
Iraq is the second-largest purchaser of Iranian non-oil exports, and bought about $6 billion worth of goods in 2017. It also buys Iranian-generated electricity to deal with chronic power cuts that have been a key factor sparking mass protests in recent weeks.
On Tuesday, the British renewable energy investor Quercus became the latest major company to pull out of Iran as a result of the new sanctions.
It halted construction of $570 million solar power plant in Iran, which would have been the sixth-largest in the world.

Maybe nothing or maybe something. We don't know. Instead of Political articles, you need to look for Currency or CBI information on the currency going International.

Hey Abadi, time to reach down an put on those big boy pants now. Time is over for that fence riding you've been doing the last few years. A smart move was canceling that little business trip you had planned to Tehran but a stupid move was in back peddling on your statement about the US sanctions. I have to disagree 10 years, its a win for Iraq, what does Iran actually do for Iraq beside ship over some over priced rotten vegetables to them. The USA has brought this country out of the ashes more than once an all Iran wants from Iraq is to control an own them.

I guess were gonna see here shortly how smart Abadi actually is because he's gonna have to choose, Sadr is gonna make him choose...
