CDJ Confirms Possibility of Imminent Reunion with PUK

 

 

ERBIL - After its meeting with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) on Friday for talks on an alleged unification, the Coalition for Democracy and Justice, led by Barham Salih, confirmed in a statement the possibility of a reunion with the other party in hopes of "overcoming the current situation" in the Kurdistan Region.

The coalition said that it with the PUK are working on a political agreement, noting that the current situation in the region requires such negotiations between the sides.

"At the request of loyal supporters of the CDJ and PUK, we are working on a political agreement in hopes of reaching a solution for the current crisis [in the region], making the people's lives better, and reorganizing our capabilities for best serving the public," the statement reads, adding that they are expecting other Kurdish sides to join them after the upcoming regioal parliamentary election.

Salih was previously the second deputy secretary general of the PUK before establishing his own party over some internal disputes with his colleagues.
