An Iraqi official said on Wednesday that Iran has recently cut off electricity imported from southern Iraqi cities as "political blackmail" aimed at putting pressure on the Iraqi government.

"What Tehran has done is part of Iran's political blackmail on Iraq," the official told Sky News Arabiya, asking not to be named.

The official added that Iran's excuses to justify the cut-off of electricity imported from Iraqi areas were "incorrect". Iran has said it has done so to meet its domestic electricity needs.

But the Iraqi official revealed that Iran's actual need for domestic consumption of electricity is 42 thousand megawatts, while Iran produces 58 thousand megawatts.

The power outages in southern Iraq have sparked street protests over the past two weeks that Iran has tried to use to pressure Iraqi leaders to form a pro-Tehran government.

After Iran cut off water and electricity from provinces in southern Iraq, particularly Basra, the Iraqi government is working to provide alternatives from the Arab depth of Iraq.

A senior Iraqi ministerial delegation in Jeddah on Wednesday discussed a number of issues and issues with Saudi officials, including the energy portfolio, which includes electricity and fuel.

A spokesman for the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, Musab teacher, said Tuesday, "The ministry is seeking to find alternatives to Iranian electricity imported."

He added that "Iraq seeks to link its electrical network to the Gulf electricity system," expressing at the same time the hope that the positive results of the visit of the Iraqi delegation to Saudi Arabia.

The Iraqi Electricity Ministry failed to convince the Iranian side to resume the sale of electricity to Iraq and said it would resort to "an alternative plan."

The Iraqi delegation to Saudi Arabia is headed by the head of the Iraqi side in the Iraqi-Saudi Coordination Council and Minister of Planning Salman Jumaili.

The council was established in June 2017 in an effort to improve troubled relations between Baghdad and Riyadh.

The visit comes at the behest of Abbadi, according to a statement issued by the office of Jumaili, and see him (Basneoz) .

The delegation includes the ministers of oil Abdul Jalab al-Luaibi and electricity Qassim Fahdawi and transport Kazem Vajan al-Hamami and a number of directors-general in a number of ministries.

"The delegation will discuss with the Saudi side a number of important issues and issues within the framework of the Iraqi-Saudi Coordination Council," the statement said.

He added that "energy, which includes electricity and fuel will be one of the most important files to be discussed with the Saudi side ... The delegation will also discuss other issues related to the activation of air transport, sea and land between the two countries."

Yep, they cut electricity and water at the same time, and the only reason was to cause chaos in iraq  and start a civil war.

I hate to say this because so many people with dinar expect an rv every week or month but removing Iran's militias and Maliki are going to take at least another year it will be a miracle if it doesn't.

Agreed - I’ve also lowered my expectations to well, no expectations. I’ll be grateful for a RV, whenever that day arrives. Meanwhile, got stuff to do. After 15 years of this Tom foolery, enough is enough.

They’re either going to get their house in order or it’s a House Of Cards coming crashing down when that doors gets “ kicked in “ and Iraq is reduced to a smoldering rotten mess. Their future is theirs now to make or break. Begging the UN or anyone else for “ more assistance “ won’t do a lick of good.

Kuwait provides 30,000 kW of electricity to Basra

The Kuwaiti government has provided emergency aid to Iraq in the light of the difficult conditions faced by a number of Iraqi cities due to the severe shortage of electricity.

Kuwait's Undersecretary of Electricity and Water, Engineer Mohammad Bu Shahri, said that in view of the current difficult circumstances faced by the brothers in the Republic of Iraq, which is partly due to the severe shortage of electricity, the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has offered urgent assistance to brotherly Iraq.

He explained that the Ministry of Electricity and Water donated 17 mobile generators with a total capacity of 30 thousand kilowatts to alleviate the electricity crisis in the Iraqi city of Basra.

The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announced yesterday that the State of Kuwait will equip the ministry with kerosene fuel to operate the obstruction units.

The ministry said in a statement that "under the guidance of the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Oil will begin to equip the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity with kazaweel fuel to operate the suspended generating units and support the operating units."

Adding that he was waiting (Friday) to arrive at the ports of Basra barge Kuwaiti loaded with 30 thousand cubic meters of fuel kasaweel, as a down payment, and that the quantities continue periodically over the coming days.

Iraq, OPEC's second-largest oil producer after Saudi Arabia, has shrunk its refining capacity when militants stormed the Baiji district south of Baghdad in 2014.

Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990 and committed atrocities against its people before an international coalition led by the United States ousted the Iraqi army.

Iraq has imported between 1500 and 2000 MW from Iran to cover the shortage of its internal production. The Iranian government announced the suspension of export to Iraq in conjunction with the high temperatures that reached in the city of Amara (southern Iraq) to 51 Celsius because of say it is the accumulation of debt to Iraq, More than 23 thousand megawatt hours of electricity, to meet the needs of the population and institutions without interruption. But can not produce more than 15 thousand and 700 megawatts of electricity, leading to the need to import from abroad. The problem is usually exacerbated in the peak season of the summer, with temperatures rising, which coincides with frequent interruptions in the national grid.
