'Art of the Deal’ co-author says Trump is having a ‘meltdown’

Recommended Posts

Donald Trump’s co-author of his 1987 book The Art of the Deal says he believes the president is having a “meltdown” and that it is a “true emergency”.

In a recent interview with CNN’s Brian Stelter, author Tony Schwartz said he believed it was important to publicly call attention to Mr Trump’s behaviour, which he described as “out of the norms”. Mr Stelter had previously asked Mr Schwartz whether continuous speculation over Mr Trump was dangerous.

“We need to keep front and centre that this is a person who is far outside the norms of ordinary behaviour,” he said. He added that he believed Mr Trump’s trip to Europe further proved the US president was having a “meltdown” as a result of pressure and feeling “under siege”.

Mr Trump notably criticised PM Theresa May in an interview with The Sun, published the same day he arrived in London, over UK’s Brexit deal. Mr Trump later denied the criticism during a press conference with Ms May, labelling the story published in the conservative Rupert Murdoch-owned paper as “fake news”.

Further, Mr Trump’s Europe trip has also been marked by his arrival at the NATO summit in which he accused Germany of being “a captive of Russia,” amid reports detailing his strong criticisms towards allies for not spending enough on defence during the summit.

When asked why he felt confident to label Mr Trump as having a “meltdown,” Mr Schwartz cited his “enormous” amount of time with the president – over a period of 18 months – and being a “25-year student of psychology” as justifications, to name a few.

“I believe the republic is at enormous risk that goes far beyond what most journalists are comfortable saying and what the general public therefore – it doesn’t really fully understand,” he said. He added: “We are in a true emergency.”

Mr Schwartz said his tweets and on-air interviews are his attempts to warn the general public; he added that he’s trying to be “Paul Revere" - the 18th Century metalworker celebrated for warning American militias about the arrival of British troops.

Mr Schwartz has been critical of Mr Trump throughout his presidency.

During his interview with Mr Stelter, he acknowledged he previously predicted Mr Trump would resign from office by 2017.

“You’re absolutely right, I completely missed it,” he said. “I think I got it wrong, I think I underestimated the enormous attachment that he would have to being in that office.”

In response to a question on whether journalists should be more courageous in reporting on Mr Trump’s “fitness”, Mr Schwartz responded that journalists are in a “challenging role” since Mr Trump has, “blurred the line for all of us between behaving in the ways that we ordinarily would and doing what we think is necessary in the face of an extraordinary danger”.

Schwartz has a little bias....perhaps a bone to pick..In the late 80's...at publication....both he and Trump were Dems...now that Trump has become who he is...this guy, Tony.. is associated with him in that renaissance....and what left leaning news writer would want that..? ...it is also reported that Schwartz was unhappy with his limited financial gain on proceeds from book sales.....guess Trump jobbed him on that deal.......Schwartz also stated tha Trump would resign before the end of 2017...well???..much more to the story.....but you get the idea......CL

He probably does hold some animosity towards Trump.  With Trump's limited vocabulary, it's bigly obvious who penned the Art of the Deal.....and if Schwartz was duped out of his share (a Trump business staple) it stands to reason he has an ax to grind.  Sad thing for Donald is, because of his continued anti-societal antics......for millions of Americans it's reasonable to believe Trump is off his rocker.  As always, just my opinion.

Although the Electoral College is disdained by some, it has proven to be a brilliant move beyond genius by the Founding Fathers and has no justification whatsoever for being changed - AT ALL.

To counter and silence the senseless rhetoric of the Snowflake and Buttercup Idiot Brigade Volunteer Forces posting such typical imbecilic drivel, lookie here:

WHY THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE

by Marc Schulman

The Electoral College was created for two reasons. The first purpose was to create a buffer between population and the selection of a President. The second as part of the structure of the government that gave extra power to the smaller states.

The first reason that the founders created the Electoral College is hard to understand today. The founding fathers were afraid of direct election to the Presidency. They feared a tyrant could manipulate public opinion and come to power. Hamilton wrote in the Federalist Papers:

It was equally desirable, that the immediate election should be made by men most capable of analyzing the qualities adapted to the station, and acting under circumstances favorable to deliberation, and to a judicious combination of all the reasons and inducements which were proper to govern their choice. A small number of persons, selected by their fellow-citizens from the general mass, will be most likely to possess the information and discernment requisite to such complicated investigations. It was also peculiarly desirable to afford as little opportunity as possible to tumult and disorder. This evil was not least to be dreaded in the election of a magistrate, who was to have so important an agency in the administration of the government as the President of the United States. But the precautions which have been so happily concerted in the system under consideration, promise an effectual security against this mischief.

(See All of the Federalist 68)

Hamilton and the other founders believed that the electors would be able to insure that only a qualified person becomes President. They believed that with the Electoral College no one would be able to manipulate the citizenry. It would act as check on an electorate that might be duped. Hamilton and the other founders did not trust the population to make the right choice. The founders also believed that the Electoral College had the advantage of being a group that met only once and thus could not be manipulated over time by foreign governments or others.

The electoral college is also part of compromises made at the convention to satisfy the small states. Under the system of the Electoral College each state had the same number of electoral votes as they have representative in Congress, thus no state could have less then 3. The result of this system is that in this election the state of Wyoming cast about 210,000 votes, and thus each elector represented 70,000 votes, while in California approximately 9,700,000 votes were cast for 54 votes, thus representing 179,000 votes per electorate. Obviously this creates an unfair advantage to voters in the small states whose votes actually count more then those people living in medium and large states.

One aspect of the electoral system that is not mandated in the constitution is the fact that the winner takes all the votes in the state. Therefore it makes no difference if you win a state by 50.1% or by 80% of the vote you receive the same number of electoral votes. This can be a recipe for one individual to win some states by large pluralities and lose others by small number of votes, and thus this is an easy scenario for one candidate winning the popular vote while another winning the electoral vote. This winner take all methods used in picking electors has been decided by the states themselves. This trend took place over the course of the 19th century.

While there are clear problems with the Electoral College and there are some advantages to it, changing it is very unlikely. It would take a constituitional amendment ratified by 3/4 of states to change the system. It is hard to imagine the smaller states agreeing. One way of modifying the system is to eliminate the winner take all part of it. The method that the states vote for the electoral college is not mandated by the consitution but is decided by the states. Two states do not use the winner take all system, Maine and Nebraska. It would be difficult but not impossible to get other states to change their systems, unfortunately the party that has the advantage in the state is unlikely to agree to a unilateral change. There are ongoing attempts to change the system but few expect them to be successful any time soon.

One thing not mentioned here that is a HUGE advantage for the Electoral College is States with positive voter ID requirements so actual bone fide voters only vote once only in their precinct are not penalized by States that have people voting multiple times in multiple precincts in multiple States, voting for dead people still listed on the rolls, and allowing illegal immigrants to vote.

Even I, along with President Donald J Trump, become refreshingly aware of the GENIUS of the Founding Fathers and their institution of the Electoral College among other prolific items in The Declaration Of Independence, The Constitution Of The United States Of America TO INCLUDE The Ratified Bill Of Rights, Federalist Papers, Reason, AND Common Sense.

The Electoral College is actually genius in that it brings all states, including the smaller ones, into play. Campaigning is much different!
