From a cash society to an electronic society.

Iraqi banking system continues moving forward with the implementation of electronic payment.

Electronic payment means less physical dinar in circulation.... This will help to reduce the note count even more

Go CBI

Go $1:1

Ask yourself this question: If you were the head, of one of the world's biggest credit card companies, and you were negotiating with the government of Iraq, to use your credit card internationally, and use it with the Iraqi Dinar, and if you knew the Iraqi Dinar was NOT traded internationally, but the card would be issued in Iraqi Dinars....then do you think you would ask the Iraqi Finance Minister directly: Do you intend to trade the Iraqi Dinar internationally?

Of course you would.

And if you did not get a pretty clear and convincing answer to that question, you would not sign any international usage agreements for your card.

So what must have happened, behind the scenes at the negotiations, is that the head of MasterCard or Visa or UninP asked the Finance Minister about this, and must have got a pretty convincing "Yes"......

The people who run credit card companies, are not fools. They would have to believe that Iraq will trade it's currency, internationally, in the foreseeable future....or they never would have signed those agreements.

If the head of MasterCard is convinced this will happen....then that is good enough for me, to believe it...:peace:

RODAO, Erbil -

The Central Bank of Iraq (CBE) on Wednesday signed an agreement with China's UnionPay International to develop smart payment technologies and electronic payment services in Iraq.

The signing took place at the Bank's headquarters in Baghdad, in the presence of officials from both sides.

"The signing came in the light of its strategy to develop electronic payment services and to open the horizons of work and competition for international companies in the electronic payment sector," the bank said in a statement after signing the agreement.

He added that "the agreement is also aimed at developing this sector and transferring the expertise that this company possesses to the Iraqi market, thus facilitating the payment and transfer of funds."

The central bank is seeking to boost the collection of card purchase payments through traders using the latest technology developed by the Chinese company.

Today's agreement is the third to be signed by the bank in 2018 with international card companies (MasterCard, Visa Card, UnionPay International).

According to a report released at the end of 2017 by the bank, 89 percent of the country's adult population does not have bank accounts.

Iraq has two main government banks, Rafidain and Rashid, with branches in all Iraqi provinces, as well as 50 private banks.
