The leader of the Kurdistan Islamic Group Ali Babir, on Tuesday, resolved the issue of non-participation of his party in the Kurdistan Regional Government next headed by Barzani pleased.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - President of the autonomous Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani on Thursday arrived in Baghdad and met with the Prime Minister of Iraq Adil Abdul-Mahdi.

Barzani is also expected to meet with Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi and President Barham Salih, a Kurdish lawmaker in Baghdad told Kurdistan 24.

It is the first visit of Barzani to Baghdad since he took office as President of the Kurdistan Region earlier on June 10. 

Earlier, in a dedicated parliamentary session on May 28, 68 lawmakers from the Kurdistan Region’s 111-seat legislature voted in favor of Nechirvan Barzani as the new regional president. Barzani is also the deputy head of the leading Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).

Born in 1966, Barzani was elected as the deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region in 1996. He was elected as Prime Minister in 1999 and 2006. He continued serving after subsequently being re-elected to the post in 2011 and 2013.

The Kurdistan Islamic Group (KI) announced on Sunday the opposition within the Kurdistan Regional Parliament and its non-participation in the next Kurdistan government. 
"We decided not to participate in the Kurdistan Regional Government in any position, and to turn into a bloc of opposition within parliament, to monitor the performance of the government," said a member of the Kurdish parliament for the group, Muslim Abdullah, for Mawazin News. 
He added that "this comes to our knowledge that the form on which the government is not useful and does not serve the interests of the Kurds or end their multiple problems." 
A member of parliament of Kurdistan, "the parties of the Authority are interested in sharing the spoils and positions only and do not care about the suffering of the Kurdish people and multiple crises."

The Parliament Presidency of the Kurdistan Region on Thursday invited the members of parliament to attend the regular session scheduled to be held on June 30.

The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) will hold a meeting in Sulaymaniyah on Monday amid changes the parties have made to their negotiating delegations.

According to news published on the official website of the Kurdistan Democratic, on Sunday, and his follow-up Twilight News, the meeting will be held at 11 am on Monday, in the building of the Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan in Sulaymaniyah.
