Butifldrm
Honestly, I think Maliki's announcement not to run for Prime Minister allowed for this alliance. Sadr, wanted a universal coverage of all factions in Iraq and now we are seeing it's fruition. Still, Iranian influenced blocs are trying to form the largest bloc. What I'm worried about? The Kurds might fall for their empty promises. 1

The breakthrough came when the Sunni National Axis Alliance agreed to join the bloc. The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) are not currently part of the bloc. If true then the bloc has 12 supporters more than needed Someone is not telling the truth here. So what is it? Maliki or Sadr and Abadi. If it is Maliki then the corruption continues. Even if he does not become PM he will have one of his cronies in place.

In an interview with journalists in Baghdad yesterday, Abadi abandoned his previous reservation in dealing with Iran's criticisms of his stance on US sanctions and his commitment to them before retreating later and declaring that his government would only commit to not dealing with the dollar with Iran. "The Secretariat we are carrying requires us not to risk the fate of our people in favor of appeasing Iran or any other neighboring country," he said. He also criticized the measures taken by the Iranian government regarding the water supply to Iraq, stressing that "no neighbor country has the right to cut off the waters of the Karun River from the Shatt al-Arab." In the meantime, the alliance of "Sarawan" supported by the movement of Moqtada al-Sadr and his allies to form a "big bloc" yesterday, which paves the way to form a new government. The bloc included 162 deputies belonging to 11 political groups, the most prominent of which is the Saharoun Movement, the Al-Nasr Alliance, and the Al-Hakama Stream, led by Ammar al-Hakim and the National Coalition led by Iyad Allawi. Parliament is due to convene today to elect a new president and launch the process of forming a government. This coincided with the escalation of popular anger in the southern province of Basra yesterday. Several demonstrations and angry protests have been held against local and federal authorities for poor services and contamination of drinking water, with 30,000 injuries. Hundreds of protesters have closed important strategic positions, including oilfields. Protesters at the Shalamjah border post also held the link between Iraq and Iran.
yota691
Iraqi parliament holds its first session under the roof of severe divisions - 1 Minute Ago BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq's new parliament is to hold its first session on Sunday amid fierce divisions between the parties winning the election and amid speculation that parliamentarians failed to elect a speaker. Information leaked yesterday about a preliminary agreement to join the alliance «open» to the alliance «victory» - «Saaron» - Hakim to break the Shiite parties on the largest bloc charged with the choice of the new prime minister. In the meantime, the channel «Sky News Arabia» quoted Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi as saying that the national security adviser article Faleh Fayyad does not represent a coalition «victory». He waved his case if he spoke on behalf of the coalition. Abadi said he would not risk the interests of the people of Iraq to satisfy Iran or any other country, in reference to information about the transfer of ballistic missiles Iran to Iraq. Referring to Iran, Abbadi said that "no neighbor country has the right to cut off the waters of the Karun River from the Shatt al-Arab, and we will talk to them about it." The province of Basra is witnessing mass demonstrations because of the lack of services and water pollution caused by cutting off many of the tributaries of the Tigris and Shatt al-Arab and turn it into its territory. The Information Office of the Parliament announced yesterday the first meeting of the Council today and on its agenda the election of the President of the Council and his deputies, and the performance of the deputies winning the election sworn in. The session will be presided over by senior MP Mohammed Zinni, a member of the Saarun Alliance led by Moqtada al-Sadr, winner of the first place in the elections. According to the constitution, the task of Zinni is to run the session to elect a president, but the absence of consensus may prevent his election in the session, contrary to the Constitution. Informed sources told «life» that the parliament will resort today to keep the meeting open until the consensus on the selection of a speaker of the parliament, an unconstitutional controversial procedure resorted to by the blocks in 2014. Sources pointed out that the President of the age Mohamed Zinni may reject the presidency if the violation Of the Constitution. And before the political blocs about a month to choose the presidents of the Republic and the government in accordance with the Constitution, and the presidency of parliament must be resolved today. But the Iraqi parties knew of the consensus on the three positions, one package may prevent the selection of the speaker of the day, especially as the Sunni differences on the post. Vice-President Osama Najafi, former deputy Mohammad Tamim and Anbar governor Mohammed al-Halbusi are competing for the post, while deputy MP Ahmed al-Jubouri surprised the political circles yesterday and announced his candidacy to head the parliament. Although he has no bloc or political support, he may get a surprise in his election out of consensus. Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo telephoned Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi and Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani to discuss the situation in Iraq, and then Pompeo wrote to his Twitter account that "the formation of a strong government on national bases Is necessary to defeat an advocate ». The two Shiite parties competing to form the largest bloc, Haider Abadi - Moqtada al-Sadr - Ammar al-Hakim, Nuri al-Maliki - Hadi al-Amiri, to attract more Sunni and Kurdish deputies on the eve of the parliamentary session, which may be surprises through the submission of one of the parties document that represents the largest bloc. A Shiite political source told «life», that the initial agreement achieved during the past few hours, the accession of the alliance «open» led by al-Amiri without Maliki to the axis of Abadi-Sadr - Hakim as a decisive settlement of the controversy, especially that Sadr's reservations focused on the alliance with Maliki, Amiri, and the seats of «coalition rule of law» led by Maliki (25) is not effective. Maliki announced yesterday not to run for prime minister after almost certain information indicated his candidacy with the support of Sunni and Kurdish parties. Meanwhile, a wave of angry protests continued in Basra for a third day, with protesters cutting off major roads and roads in the city. The sources said they set fire to the road between the Abu al-Khasib and the headquarters of oil and gas companies in the suburbs, especially the "field Sebba gas", one of the most important gas fields in Iraq.
