Abadi axes another Maliki thug.  It'll cost him some supporters, which will expose those supporters of being thugs too.  Hope the price isn't too high at this stage of the game.

Have to think Abadi knows that he already has enough support coming from the Kurds and Sunnis to have the stones to make such a huge move at this critical time!

Prominent figures in Iraq’s al-Nasr alliance led by Haidar al-Abadi, announced in a statement on Friday the nomination of Faleh al-Fayad, to head the new Iraqi government, hours after he was dismissed by Abadi as head of the National Security, and as chairman of the Popular Mobilization Forces.

The statement which represents some members of the alliance describing themselves as major in the political bloc, said “We as major figures in al-Nasr alliance announce the nomination of Faleh al-Fayad as prime minister, in our belief in his ability to achieve a government program that meets the ambitions of citizens and its broad national acceptance.”

The development comes hours after al-Fath alliance, affiliated to the Popular Mobilization forces, issued its statement on the exemption of Fayad from his post.

Fath confirmed on Friday that al-Abadi’s decision to dismiss Faleh al-Fayad from his government duties comes as a result of his refusal to support Abadi’s second term, pointing out that this decision confuses the security situation and puts the country’s stability at risks.

The statement of al-Fath alliance mentioned that the issuance of the decision to exempt Faleh Fayad from the presidency of the Popular Mobilization Forces and the National Security Apparatus instigates a dangerous situation involving security units in political conflicts and personal agendas.

The alliance added that “Abadi used the imposition of acceptance of his second term as a condition for officials to maintain their positions; thus these decisions are illegal in accordance with the cnstitution, as Faleh al-Fayad hold responsibilities which are equal to a minister’s responsibility and in positions similar to that of the ministry of defense and interior.”

On Thursday, Haidar al-Abadi issued a decree ordering the removal of Fayad from his government duties.

According to local sources, pro-Iranian parties, provided about two weeks ago, their support for the nomination of Fayad to head the government in the coming period.

He also pointed out that “these actions and personal decisions confuse the security situation and risk the stability of the country and the opening of the home front in front of terrorism, to satisfy the desire to retain power.”

On Thursday, Abadi issued a decree ordering the removal of Fayyad from his government duties.

According to local sources, pro-Iranian partiesabout two weeks ago offered their support for the nomination of Fayad to head the government in the coming period.

Fayad, who belongs to the Dawa party, has been the national security adviser since 2011, replacing Safaa al-Sheikh. Despite the legal ban, al-Fayad set up a political movement to enter the parliamentary elections last May.

Recently, media leaks about al-Fayad’s candidacy coincides with the news of his dismissal from the presidency of the national security apparatus, while maintaining his position as chairman of the Popular Mobilization Forces.

It is noteworthy that the National Security apparatus despite its sensitivity was subjected to a major infiltration by former Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, ahead of the 2010 elections, through appointments allocated to the clan of al-Maliki and al-Fayad and Hadi al-Amiri (head of the Badr Organization), and their respective party followers in the parties, during 2011 and 2012. Read more

Special sources close to the process of forming the Iraqi government, revealed that the name of Faleh al-Fayad, head of the National Security, who is also chairman of Popular Mobilization Forces, as a candidate to lead the new Iraqi government.

Al-Fayad, who belongs to the Dawa party, has been the national security adviser since 2011, replacing Safaa al-Sheikh. Despite the legal ban, al-Fayad set up a political movement to enter the parliamentary elections last May.

The media leaks about al-Fayad’s candidacy coincide with the news of his dismissal from the presidency of the national security apparatus, while maintaining his position as chairman of the Popular Mobilization Forces.

In a celebration at the headquarter of the National Security last December to announce Iraq’s victory over ISIS, expelling the extremists group from all urban centers including second city Mosul in a vast military campaign, prime minister Haidar al-Abadi expressed his resentment of turning the headquarter to a tribal and sectarian directorate, and called to keep away any political or sectarian or tribal influence out of the security services.

The special sources pointed out that the differences between al-Abadi and al-Fayad may lead to a political  earthquake in the al-Nasr alliance led by Haidar al-Abadi, who won 42 parliamentary seats in the recent legislative elections.

The sources indicated that al-Abadi will lose about 30 seats of his coalition, in the event of a mass withdrawal led by Faleh al-Fayad, who heads the Ataa bloc in the list of al-Nasr, as well as deputies belonging to al-Fadila party and others..

According to the sources, the parliamentary members who willl withdraw will join efforts led by former Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki to form the largest bloc.

It is noteworthy that al-Maliki met on Thursday with Faleh al-Fayad to discuss the next political map, and his candidacy for the premiership of the next government by the alliances of Fatah and Dawlat al-Qanoun.

On 8/30/2018 at 7:13 PM, Butifldrm said:

Pretty much from what I'm reading.  This government formation is being manipulated between Iran and the United States.  Since most of the corruption is associated with Iran, Abadi, Hakim and Sadr have made the choice to align. The nucleus they have formed is good, but to keep out the corrupt they are having a problem gaining the majority of seats.   They need over 160 to 200 seats to control the government, and I believe they have about 120+.  That leaves the Sunnis and the Kurds holding the ball.  The Kurds are holding out for their constitutional rights while Arabizition continues in the Ninevah Province including Kirkuk, which is totally unconstitutional according to article 140.  This is the reason the Kurds are asking for the official Census and article 140. which should have been completed by 2007.  pg 42 https://www.constituteproject.org/constitution/Iraq_2005.pdf?lang=en .  Abadi, and the GOI know that de-arabization would be impossible now and to keep in alignment with the constitution, the constitution would have to be amended.  The Kurds know this.  The Kurds were the Kingmakers back in 2010 and they are holding on to that pawn, even knowing when they aligned with Maliki in 2010 they were mislead and cheated, but they also took a blow and were wounded by Abadi after his squash of their Huge Referendum and loss of Kirkuk.  Pompeo is asking the splintered Kurdish alliances to unite and join the Abadi, Sadr and Hakim, giving in to  the alliance to form the largest bloc. Barzani, appears to be the hold out.  The Sunni's also are having a problem uniting.  They can't agree on who would hold the Presidency of parliament.   As usual Iraq,  Thing are more than likely going to be delayed IMO.

Thanks Butifldrm. Enjoy your weekend.  :tiphat:

Source reveals Iranian threats to liquidate the allies of the alliance - Sadr Abbadi

Source reveals Iranian threats to liquidate the allies of the alliance - Sadr Abbadi

 Twilight News

The leader of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, Qassim Soleimani, has threatened to kill a number of Sunni political leaders if they decide to join an alliance led by cleric Moqtada al-Sadr and Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, political sources said on Saturday.

Sky News quoted the sources as saying that Soleimani "sent letters of direct threat of death and liquidation to a number of leaders of the Sunni political blocs in the event that decided to join the alliance Suron-Nasr."

And joined the lists of "Suron" backed by Sadr, and "victory" led by Abadi, and "wisdom" led by Ammar al-Hakim, and "national" led by Iyad Allawi, in order to form the largest bloc in parliament, in an effort to form the next government.

Soleimani aims to push Sunni forces into alliance with Hadi al-Amer's "Fatah" list and "state of law" led by former Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki, both of which are backed by Iran.

In May, Iraqis voted in parliamentary elections, while uncertainty about the composition of the new government was strained amid rising public discontent over poor service conditions and rising unemployment.

The Federal Supreme Court approved the results of the elections on August 19, and issued by Iraqi President Fuad Masum, last Monday, a decree to invite the House of Representatives to convene at its fourth session on September 3.

In their first session, deputies are to elect a speaker and two deputies. They will then elect a new president and assign the leader of the largest bloc to form a government.

The recount of the vote was delayed by three months, but did not result in much difference from the preliminary results, as Sadr's list maintained its progress.

"In light of the difficult circumstances facing the country and the polarization and interference of regional and foreign and sedition aimed at the unity of Iraq and its people, we find it important that the brotherhood partners in the political process unite in order to thwart those schemes, which are characterized by the political and economic crisis Which is facing us at the current stage. "

He added that "external interference aimed at creating a rift in the Iraqi society and creating a state of conflict and internal strife will not save anyone and will not yield any fruit without disappointment, loss, regret and great responsibility before God for blood and lives and the destruction of the homeland and the threat of its security and sovereignty."

Al-Maliki said that "in this context, we emphasize the importance of caution from those who try to plunge the country into those conflicts and to prevent direct intervention and negotiation on behalf of mobilizing one party against another, and I regret that the brothers of the road and fate listen to their plans that appear supportive of them.

"I say to all the brothers of national principles and interests that you do not hear the voice of strife, which is woven by external forces to be dyed with the blood of the people, and I say frankly we will not go in the direction that the regional and major countries want and we will not allow to direct the simplest weapon in the sons and brothers of one country. In order to rebuild the country and rebuild what has been destroyed by terrorism and achieve political harmony which will be the key to security, economic and social stability and the start of work, building and services that our people are happy with.
