The Iraqi Foreign Ministry on Saturday objected to the statement made by its US counterpart in a statement on the entry of sanctions against Iran to take effect on the fifth of this month, while rejecting the part of Iraq in that statement, called for the deletion.

"The State Department followed up the statement issued by the US Embassy in Baghdad regarding the entry into force of unilateral US sanctions against the neighbor of the Islamic Republic of Iran," ministry spokesman Ahmad Mahjoub said in a statement.

"The ministry would like to point out that the second part of the said statement goes beyond diplomatic norms and mutual respect for the sovereignty of states as a well-established principle of international law."

"Iraq refuses to interfere in Iraqi internal issues, especially issues of internal security reform and the status of Iraqi security forces under the authority of the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces," Mahjoub said.

"Iraq is looking forward to the embassy to delete those statements that are inconsistent with international norms and norms and to avoid repeating them in the future and to observe the rules of international law governing its work in Iraq as the host country," the foreign ministry spokesman said.

Washington replaces its ambassador in Baghdad with the latest "most critical" of Tehran
The US embassy in Baghdad has long been criticized by critics for "condoning" Iran's growing influence in Iraq (Reuters)

Arbil, Sept 24 (Reuters) - US President Donald Trump will appoint Matthew Toller as new ambassador to Iraq instead of Douglas Seelman, a source familiar with the talks said on Thursday.

Sulliman has been in office since 2016 and will be replaced by Toller, a current ambassador to Yemen and one of the most vocal critics of Iranian policies in the region.

The US embassy in Baghdad has long been criticized by critics for "condoning" Iran's growing influence in Iraq.

The source told Kurdistan 24 that Trump would soon be appointed to be a new ambassador to Iraq instead of his colleague Silliman. The source refused to give his name.

The White House issued no statement.

Toler has a special experience with Iran by virtue of his work in Yemen, often criticizing Iran's support for the Houthis in Yemen as well as its influence in the region.

It is not clear whether Toller will keep his stated positions against the Islamic Republic when he takes office in Iraq.

Toller previously served as deputy ambassador to the US Embassy in Cairo, a political adviser at the US Embassy in Baghdad, a deputy ambassador to the US Embassy in Kuwait, a political advisor to the US Embassy in Riyadh, a US bureau chief in Aden and a deputy ambassador to Doha.

He has previously served as a political officer at the US Embassy in London and as a political and consular officer at the US Embassy in Jordan. Toller also held a number of positions in Washington, including the deputy director of the North Gulf Affairs Office and the Egyptian Foreign Affairs Office official.

Information / Baghdad

Nearly half a million people have been killed in a violent manner in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan by the United States' "war on terror" after the September 11, 2001 attacks, according to a study published on Thursday.

A study by the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs at Brown University estimated the death toll between 480 and 507,000 but indicated the real figure was likely to be higher.

"The new toll is 110,000 more than the last figure released just two years ago in August 2016," Brown said in a statement.

"Although the American people, the press and members of Congress are neglecting the war on terror, the increase in the new toll of the dead indicates that this war is still raging," the statement added.

The toll includes insurgents, local police, security forces, civilians and coalition forces.

According to Agence France-Presse, the writer of the study, Nita Crawford, said many of the dead, reported by the United States and local forces as insurgents, may in fact be civilians.

"We may never know the total direct toll of such wars," Crawford said.

"For example, tens of thousands of civilians may have been killed in operations to restore Mosul and other cities from a terrorist organization, but their bodies are likely not recovered."

Between 182 and 205,000 civilians were killed in Iraq, 38,480 in Afghanistan and 23,372 in Pakistan, according to the study.

About 7,000 US troops have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

It does not include the toll of those killed indirectly as a result of the war, such as those who died as a result of disease and lack of infrastructure

US analysts assess the new governments in Baghdad and Erbil

Mawazine News
US analysts have highlighted the performance of the two new governments in Baghdad and Erbil after the announcement of election results during the last period.
"The United States should be optimistic about the new Iraqi government that emerged from last May's elections because it is trying to chart a new policy to change the country's vision in the right direction," the Washington Institute for Near East Policy quoted several analysts as saying in a report released last week. , After the suffering of Iraq from problems and crises for a long time because of the difference between the wishes of the people and leadership.
"Kirkuk is a key point in the oil revenue agreement between the central government and the KRG," said Michael Knights, a senior Fellow at the Washington Institute. "The United States plays a key role in bringing this process into operation. Baghdad and the Kurdistan region, in a cooperative scheme for the export of oil. "
He added that it is likely that "the Kurds continue to market their own crude oil and the export of Kirkuk crude of the Government of Baghdad, while the central government to finance the budget of the region, indicating that this strategy will allow the Kurds continue to pay salaries and provide social services and the payment of oil costs, Their debts at the level of $ 200 million per month. "
The Iraqi security forces need to recruit more elements, especially from the local population, to continue to defeat the pockets of an advocacy organization, stressing the urgent need to create a new generation of joint forces from the center and the region operates under federal control and are funded through Baghdad, But are composed of local Kurds and non-Kurds.
"The United States must clearly indicate whether it is prepared or unprepared to provide popular mobilization forces in terms of training and support. By supporting Iraqi forces, it will be able to defeat Tehran every time because Iraqis appreciate security cooperation with the states. The United States more than Iranian support, "as he put it.
"The situation is not complicated," said Kenneth Pollack, a resident of the American Enterprise Institute. "The new government has to deal with three different communities that have been hit hard by unique issues. The Kurds are angry about losing control of Kirkuk, As citizens of the second degree, and the state of their oil and security forces. "
"The Sunnis are in dire need of post-war reconstruction of a sympathetic organization, they are concerned about the re-emergence of this jihadi group, and tired of being excluded from the larger political posts of power in Baghdad. The Shiites are angry at the government's inability to provide basic services and provide a framework Economic to revive the entire country. "
"Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi will head another national unity government, and despite his attempt to bypass the patronage policy of such governments when choosing his ministers, he has not been able to overcome them completely, because the riots that broke out in the south of the country (His failure to deliver expected results in the near future will lead to Iraqis losing faith in the regime itself). "
Nusseibeh Yunus, a senior adviser at the European Institute for Peace, noted that Iran and the United States have made many efforts to compete in order to influence Iraq during the process of forming a government. The explanations for the results are mixed. United Nations, but this is not the case.
"For example, the current president Barham Saleh, Iran, not the United States, brokered his return to the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and silenced the opposition within the party, which had emerged from the parliamentary elections in May in a weak state," noting that the United States should continue Work with him.

"The United States dealt with Adel Abdul-Mahdi intensively when he was oil minister in Iraq, but supported the then Prime Minister Haidar Abadi during the elections, ignoring all logical analysis of the situation, and through misreading the political scene, Washington lost the opportunity to influence the candidate He has some sense of allegiance. "
"After the first phase of the formation of the government, Iraq achieved several remarkable gains," said Bilal Wahab, a research fellow at the Washington Institute. "The transition to power was complete and the government system in Iraq was more responsive to the demands of the people. Their implicit consent to the new government, while Baghdad saw greater participation by Sunnis and Kurds. "
He pointed out that the Kurdish elections that took place at the end of last September, were also peaceful, despite the low turnout, and Kurdish opposition parties lost some of their seats, while the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan to regain power despite the major obstacles such as mismanagement of the economy And the independence referendum last year.
"The KRG now has to deal with another source of pressure from Iran and Turkey, where Tehran's hostility towards Iranian Kurdish opposition groups has increased and a safe haven has been sought in northern Iraq," Wahab said. Led to an escalation against the PKK forces in the Kandil mountains

WOWZERS!!!, GregP, AND The Very Best Of Your Weekend To You!!! :tiphat:

As far as I know, The United States Of America AND France are the ONLY two Countries that have Strategic Framework Agreements with Iraq. There appear to be other Countries having economic agreements with Iraq but do not appear to be as comprehensive and in depth. Now, why in the "Whirled" would The True The United States Of America Patriot President Donald J. Trump AND French Prez'dent Emmanuel Macron ANNOUNCE confidence in Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi when the Prime Minister DOES NOT have ALL the Cabinet positions filled (or "backfilled", yet)???!!! Maybe an indication of the Cabinet "filling" so both The United States Of America AND France (Hey, the coast MUST be clear, the FRENCH are HERE!!!) can announce no mo restrictions to IMPLEMENTING the Strategic Framework Agreements???!!!

Maybe an interesting observation (or NOT!!!) so we watch the Bicraqi Iraqi news for information, misinformation, smoke & mirrors, phony bologna, AND all THAT!!! AND the typical, customary, AND VERY necessary typical DISCLAIMER!!!
