I'm kind'a liking this sentence from above. Recent articles also seem to indicate McGurk is working hard with the PTB in Iraq to get the new government seated, like yesterday.

I'm thinking there is some pressure being applied by the US beyond what we are hearing and seeing,

Massoud Barzani repels Trump's envoy strongly: Do not speak so in front of me

Massoud Barzani repulsed Trump's envoy strongly: Do not talk so in front of me

 Twilight News

The leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Massoud Barzani, rejected a request from the US president's envoy to join the Kurds towards a Shiite camp that ends with the formation of the Iraqi government.
A source close to the decision-making department in the province of Kurdistan, the Twilight News, that Barzani recently held a meeting in Arbil with US envoy Brett McGurk at the request of the latter, centered on the formation of the Iraqi government and the composition of the largest bloc.
He added that McGurk, asked Barzani to join the Kurds to the alliance of the nucleus consisting of Sadr, Hakim, Abbadi, Allawi, and not to go towards the alliance led by Fatah, Amiri, Khazali, Maliki.
The source said that Barzani seemed annoyed by the words of Trump's envoy, and told him "do not talk to me this way."
He added that Barzani also told the envoy of Trump, "The Kurds, especially the Kurdistan Democratic Party does not have red lines on a person or a party and will ally with those who meet the demands of the Kurds and guarantees the rights of the people of Kurdistan."
And was unable to political entities to reach an agreement leading to the formation of the largest bloc, the first steps to form a new government in the country.
There were disagreements in the Iraqi political circles over the candidates for the formation of the next government, amid the visit of US special envoy to Iraq, Brett McCorgh, in conjunction with the visit of the commander of the "Quds Force" Iranian Qassem Soleimani, aimed at forming a government.
This comes at a time formed blocks "Asron" supported by the leader of the Sadrist movement Moqtada al-Sadr, the coalition, "victory" led by Prime Minister Haider Abadi, and "wisdom" led by Ammar al-Hakim, and "patriotism"
Sadr and Abadi represent the first axis of the Shiite blocs winning in the elections that took place in May, while the second axis consists of the alliance, "the conquest," which includes factions of the popular political crowd led by Secretary General of the Badr Organization Hadi Amiri, and a coalition of state law led by Vice President Nuri al-Maliki.
The bipartisan dispute continues over the formation of a major bloc nominating as prime minister of the new government. Which needs 165 seats, out of a total of 329 seats in the new Iraqi parliament.

  • yota691 changed the title to Washington is close to winning the bet of forming the Iraqi government

%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B9%D8%B1%D8%A7%D9%82-1.j

BAGHDAD - The United States appears to be the closest, at the time of writing, to its goal in Iraq by re-nominating Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abbadi for a second term in office, contrary to Iran's will. While the Iranian pressure on Muqtada al-Sadr, the leader of the Sadrist movement and the main supporter of Abadi, is about to bear fruit, the wisdom movement led by Ammar al-Hakim announced the completion of the formation of the "nucleus of the largest parliamentary bloc," which has the right to appoint the prime minister.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo revealed that the special envoy of President Donald Trump in Iraq, Brett McGuck, "is doing a great job on the ground," asserting that McGuck "represents me, and represents the president."

It was clear that the US minister was commenting on the complaints of Iraqi parties that informed Washington that "the Trump representative speaks with Iraqi politicians in a strong tone, demanding them to support Abadi."

Although McCarthyk denied meeting any Iraqi officials in Baghdad, party media reported that "the atmosphere of the Trump envoy's meetings with Sunni Iraqi and Kurdish officials" was not a positive one, most notably the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Massoud Barzani.

An Iraqi political analyst, who asked not to be identified, said that "in this tight time there will be no big surprises. The United States has settled its position in the direction of working to tighten the screws on the pro-Iranian team. This comes in line with US military moves to tighten control over the border triangle separating Iraq, Jordan and Syria. Which indicates that the United States is serious about cutting off the road between Iran and its arms in Syria and Lebanon. "

He added to the "Arabs" that "Ebadi's insistence on distancing himself and his future government from the blow of the US sanctions imposed on Iran reveals his joining forces with the rejection of the continuation of Iranian hegemony, which is in the interest of the United States, which apparently does not give Iran a chance to vent what can cause Sanctions from economic collapses by relying on the Iraqi economy. "

McGowork is trying to garner the support needed to reassert Abadi, led by the government, by pressing Sunni and Kurdish political parties, angering neighboring Iran, which is trying to respond in a similar fashion.

The United States no longer disguised its desire to support Abadi until the second term, which angered Iran's allies in Iraq, who threatened to topple any Iraqi government formed by the United States.

But these threats did not affect US efforts "and may have accelerated," according to a prominent Shiite political expression, coinciding with the date of the first session of the elected parliament, Monday.

"Iran's efforts to thwart Abadi's second term were almost as rewarding as it appeared to have succeeded in casting doubt on the position of Muqtada al-Sadr, who is the prime ally of the Iraqi prime minister," says the Shiite politician.

He says that "a recent visit to Beirut by Sadr may have held meetings with leaders of the Lebanese Hezbollah, backed by Iran." "Most likely, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah personally tried to influence Sadr's support for Abadi, and perhaps the leader of the Sadrist movement was affected," he said.

Sadr's leaders refused to comment on the news, saying that "Sadr continues to support the reform project, without referring to the explicit support of my slaves."

The Iraqi political analyst said: "If there are doubts that some would turn to Sadr's previous position, which could lead to the disruption of the current equation, the situation of the glaring Iraqi street as a result of the continuing protests does not allow the chest to undertake an adventure of that kind, Of political suicide in the interests of Sadr's personal opponents. "

Hakim said that the efforts of Sadr and Abadi to form the largest bloc have made significant progress by ensuring the support of 148 deputies in the new House of Representatives, even before the date of the first parliament session hours.

These MPs belong to the Sadrists supported by Sadr, the "victory" led by Abadi, the "wisdom" led by al-Hakim, the "national" led by Iyad Allawi, and "Tamdun" led by Fayek Sheikh Ali, Former defense minister Khaled al-Obeidi.

This number will not be enough to hold the meeting and achieve a quorum, as the law provides that the quorum requires one half plus one of the members of the parliament of 329 deputies. Therefore, Sunni and Kurdish support will be decisive in weighing any project to form the largest bloc.

Informed sources say former parliament speaker Salim al-Jubouri, a leader of the Sunni axis, is trying to convince his Sunni partners to support Abbadi. The sources added that al-Jubouri, who ran for Allawi's list during the May elections but did not win but his list achieved six seats, became the closest Sunni political leaders who chose to stand with Abadi in order to satisfy the American desire.

Observers cast serious doubts about the ability of the winning parties to hold the first meeting full quorum. But the team that supports Abadi says that the failure of Iran's allies to return the frozen commission to the elections blocked the opportunity for personal understanding with the deputies and the decision to belong to the largest bloc in the hands of the leaders of the parliamentary lists, which means that an Iranian attempt to cause a split in the list of slaves or Sadr or Hakim, Will not be of value.

On the contrary, supporters of Abadi are trying to attract the leader of Badr Hadi al-Amiri, who heads the Fatah-backed alliance, to the alliance of the largest bloc, ahead of the first meeting.

"Amiri is trying to be part of any new Iraqi government, and if the opening fails to form the largest bloc, he may not mind joining the US-backed project," said Shi'ite political sources.

The Sadrists are trying to differentiate between Amiri and Qais al-Khazali, the leader of Asaib Ahl al-Haq, within the Fatah alliance. While they do not mind the alliance with the former, they absolutely refuse to negotiate with the latter in any case.

Kurdish politicians continue to hold negotiating sessions with Shiite and Sunni political parties in search of adequate guarantees to implement their demands.

The sources say Kurdish demands focus on the return of the Peshmerga forces to the oil-rich city of Kirkuk after being expelled from them following the referendum on the independence of the Kurdistan region, as the Kurds are trying to improve the conditions of their annual share of the budget and agree on arrangements to allow them to export oil extracted from their regions independently of Baghdad.

The sources added that the Kurds want their guarantees to be videotaped before they join any Shiite faction to form a government.

Ruddao - Erbil The

Secretary-General of the Badr Organization and President of the Fatah Alliance, Hadi al-Amiri, warned the United States to topple any Iraqi government formed by American intervention within two months.

"Secretary-General of the Badr Organization, head of the Fatah alliance, Hadi al-Amiri, met on Thursday with the envoy of US President Brett McGurk," Amiri's office said in a press statement.

Amiri said during the meeting to reject "any US intervention in the formation of the government," followed "if you agree to your intervention, we will consider any government that you constitute a client and fall within two months."

"This meeting and many other meetings that the Iraqi media have talked about in the last few days have never been held," McGowork said in a tweet on the blogging site Twitter.

The two parties are racing to form a broad alliance known as the "largest bloc" to form the next government, the first led by the alliance, "Sason" supported by the leader of the Sadrist movement Moqtada al-Sadr and the winner of the first place with 54 seats, and the coalition, "victory" led by Abadi, The second trend leads the alliance of "conquest", which includes the political arms of the popular mobilization factions led by Hadi al-Amiri, which was dissolved second with 48 seats, and coalition, "State of Law" led by al-Maliki, who came fourth with 26 seats.

The results of the parliamentary elections, which took place on 12 May last, were categorical after the Federal Court approved it on 19 August.

The winning blocs in the elections are still trying to form a broad coalition within parliament that can pass the new government.

Any coalition will need a majority of the members of parliament to ensure the government passes, ie the votes of 165 members out of at least 329.

And before the winning blocs 90 days from the date of ratification of the Federal Court on the results of the elections to form a new government.
