Foreign Policy reveals the hidden cooperation Erdogan with Iran: its goal to fight the Kurds

 Twilight News

(Reuters) - Turkey, which accused US President Donald Trump of launching an economic war against it this year, is preparing to take Ankara from an enemy to a partner in a few months, according to Foreign Policy magazine. .

Developments have shown that the change in relations between the two countries is due to Washington's decision to withdraw from Syria, leaving the region to the Turkish president, who previously threatened US officers with an "Ottoman slap," and contributed to complicate matters while fighting against a destabilizing organization.

According to the magazine, it does not appear that Erdogan intends to abide by his promises, yet it seems that the United States and Turkey have resolved their differences, although their interests in Syria do not correspond.

No one knows exactly why Tramb has withdrawn his troops from Syria, but it is likely to have something to do with a predetermined decision to deploy his forces abroad.

According to the report, the move is supposed to end the relationship between the protection forces of the Kurdish people and the United States.

According to the magazine, the Turks have never been a partner in the face of Iran, but they helped to spare them the effects of US sanctions during a long period of the mandate of former President Barack Obama.

The details show that the US administration believes that by withdrawing from Syria and leaving the people's protection units, Washington pulls Turkey out of Iran's orbit to the Trump line, leading Erdogan to become a partner in the face of Iran.

To date, Ankara has demanded a permanent exemption allowing it to import crude oil from Iran.

Turkish officials do not see Iran as a threat, and for them Tehran could provide an important economic opportunity and economic influence against the United States.

During Obama's term, Erdogan has repeatedly appeared in Tehran praising Iran's leadership and providing coverage for its nuclear activities.

The main aim of such moves was to push the United States away from the belief that Turkey could be an ally.

After the meeting of the Turkish Foreign Minister with his Iranian counterpart in Istanbul, in a way that suggests the vagueness of the post-US withdrawal from Syria, and the vagueness of the Turkish push away from Iran.

Trump had been amended after the US announcement of "the end of the mission against Dahesh," announcing that "Turkey will complete the task," suggesting that the justification behind the declaration is not accurate.

It is known that Turkey is floundering in its policies on a staunch fight. When Obama fought the organization in 2014, the Turks said the best way was to change the Syrian regime.

Almost a year later, Turkey announced that it had priority to fight the Kurds, and did not take part in the fighting, which was confined to the protection units of the people and the Americans.

The newspaper asked whether we should believe that Turkey is committed to fighting a hasty?

"Turkey's permanent concern was the destruction of the Kurdish autonomous region. The withdrawal would be a process to remove the main obstacle for the Turks to confront the Kurds, and all these reasons lead us to believe that the Turks will pay no attention to the Kurds and will continue their war against the Kurds."

The United States sends warships towards Syria
The United States has sent ground troops and a group of warships to Syria to help pull its troops out, the Wall Street newspaper reported, quoting sources.
The ground forces on its way to Syria will help pull out US troops, while ships will provide troops if they are in danger, the sources said.
The group was headed by the US Navy landing ship Kirasarj, carrying hundreds of Marines and a number of helicopters.
A US official confirmed earlier that the United States began withdrawing its equipment from Syria, but has not yet begun the process of withdrawing troops.

The Associated Press quoted the unnamed official as saying that the withdrawal of the equipment was part of the process of starting the withdrawal of troops from Syria.

So we're being told, {by the last people on earth to know ANYTHING that this Administration is doing},

that U.S. warships are en route to Syria to pull troops out. :lmao:

First off, let us consider that there actually are U.S. warships headed that way. What kind of Super logistical mastermind has come up with the plan to bring our troops from Al-Tanf base in Syria to the port of Tartus, Baniyas, Latakia, or any other Mediterranean shore line through all of Bashar Al-Assad's

troops and the Russian forces working with Syria? And why would anyone even attempt such a deadly move when simply crossing the boarder with Iraq would be so much less deadly and easier?

Notice this map of the U.S. base in Syria,

Map of al-Tanf, Syria

Thus, my theory is that if our warships are headed that way I would not feel very comfortable if I were in Iran. I'm gonna keep saying this, something is up and someone is painting a portrait.

And the ship in the picture is the

USS Kearsarge (LHD-3) is the third Wasp-class amphibious assault ship of the United States Navy named in honor of USS Kearsarge, a sloop-of-war that gained fame hunting Confederate raiders during the American Civil War. The sloop was named for Mount Kearsarge in New Hampshire. She is the fifth ship to be so named as such, but fourth overall, as the third was renamed the Hornet (CV-12), after the first Hornet (CV-8) was sunk, and served during the remainder of World War II

Analyst: Over 20,000 US Forces Deployed in Iraq
Analyst: Over 20,000 US Forces Deployed in Iraq
  • TEHRAN (FNA)- More than 20,000 US military forces are stationed in bases in al-Anbar, Erbil and Kirkuk in Iraq, a political analyst said, describing the large military buildup as a clear instance of occupation of Iraq.

"Washington is attempting to clearly declare its military presence in Iraq by patrolling missions near Samarra, Fallujah and al-Anbar," Hashim al-Kandi told the Arabic-language al-Ma'aloumeh news website on Saturday.

He said the fact that US Deputy Commander in Iraq Austin Rim Furth conductts patrol in Baghdad along with the US forces, and that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived in Iraq on a military plane indicates Washington's attempts to occupy the country again, saying that Pompeo and Trump's trip to Iraq showed that the US has no intention of playing an advisory or training role.

The analyst said that the recent talks between Pompeo and Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi were focused on the US forces' withdrawal from Syria and finding a new base for them, adding that relocation of these forces to Iraq will endanger its security as Washington plans to threaten the neighboring states from Iraq.

In relevant remarks last Saturday, a senior Iraqi lawmaker disclosed that Israel's intelligence forces had arrived in Baghdad along with the US troops.

"Israel's intelligence forces have been witnessed patrolling with the US troops in Baghdad," al-Maloumeh quoted member of Iraqi Parliament's National Security and Defense Committee Karim Alivi Javish as saying.

Alivi Javish reiterated that the Iraqi Parliament's National and Defense Committee would probe the US troops' presence in the Iraqi capital.

In a similar report late last month, the US troops patrolled together with Baghdad Operations Commander in the Iraqi capital.

Unlike the Washinton Post the Baghdad Post has proven to be a credible news source IMO....they announced shortly after Sadr won the election that Abadi would not retain the PM position.......Trump announced a pull out from Syria because ISIS had been defeated.....this article says the same.......

ISIS militants are "living their final moments" in the last enclave they hold in Syria, near the Iraqi border, where the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces have stepped up their attacks in the last two days, an SDF official told Reuters on Sunday.

"They are living the final moments and realize that this battle is the battle to eliminate them," said Mustafa Bali, SDF media office head.

Asked about SDF progress, the spokesman for the US-led coalition, Colonel Sean Ryan, said: "The SDF is making great progress and continues to liberate more territory once held by ISIS, but the fight continues.

"The lasting defeat of ISIS is still the mission and they still present a very real threat to the long-term stability in this region, so it is not over yet."

Trump threatens to destroy Turkey economically if attacked by the Kurds of Syria

 14 January 2019 02:04 PM
Direct US President Donald Trump warned of the destruction of Turkey economically if attacked Syria 's Kurds.

In a tweet on Twitter, Trump said on Sunday that the long-awaited withdrawal from Syria had begun "while the few remaining pockets were hit hard and from several quarters and would be attacked again from the existing base if they returned."

"We will destroy Turkey economically if they hit the Kurds and a safe zone will be created with 20 miles, and we do not want the Kurds to provoke Turkey," Trump said.

Trump stressed that Russia, Iran and Syria were the biggest beneficiaries of the long-term US policy of destroying a Syrian preacher. "They are their natural enemies and we have benefited, but now is the time to bring our troops home and stop these endless wars."

Last Friday, the international coalition led by United announced the start of the withdrawal of about 2,000 troops from Syria.

After the threat of Trump hits the lira .. an immediate decline of the Turkish currency

 Twilight News

The Turkish lira fell against the US dollar on Monday after US President Donald Trump warned that the United States would destroy Turkey economically if Ankara attacked Kurdish rebels in northern Syria.
The lira, which lost about 30 percent of its value against the dollar last year, fell to 5.53 against the US currency by 07:36 GMT from near 5.4540 on Friday after touching 5.5450 in morning trade.

Trump threatened Turkey with economic ruin if it attacked Syria's pro-US democracy in Syria, prompting Ankara to respond, warning of a "grave mistake."

US-Turkish relations have been strained over the past few weeks against the backdrop of the US withdrawal from Syria. Ankara has repeatedly declared its willingness to attack Kurdish militants it regards as terrorists.

John Bolton, the US president's national security adviser, last week failed to secure assurances from Ankara that Kurdish forces would not be exposed in the event of a US withdrawal from northern Syria.

US-Turkish relations have been strained amid Ankara's plans to launch an offensive against Syrian Kurds following Washington's announcement that it would withdraw its troops from the Arab Republic.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced that he and US President Donald Trump have reached a "historic understanding" on Syria in their latest telephone conversation. Erdogan, speaking to the country's parliament, said that Trump had reassured him that US troops will be withdrawing from Syria. He also added that Turkey will create a 32-kilometre safe zone, earlier suggested by the US. In addition, Erdogan added that this zone can be expanded.

Erdogan, Trump Discuss Creation of Security Zone in Northern Syria - Erdogan's Administration

According to an earlier explanation by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, the zone will act as a buffer between Turkey and Syria that will ensure the safety of America's Kurdish allies and will prevent terrorists from attacking Turkey.

The idea was initially suggested by Trump, who threatened to "devastate" Turkey's economy if Ankara attacks Kurdish forces in Syria that helped the US to fight Daesh*. Ankara has slammed Trump over his threats, demanding the US show respect. Turkey added that it may "remain hungry, without food and water", but will still fight terrorists.

Turkey announced a military operation targeting terrorists and Kurdish forces in Manbij, Syria east of the Euphrates River in the wake of US President Trump declaring the withdrawal of American troops from the Arab Republic in the coming months. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan later said that the operation would be postponed to avoid friendly fire from US troops.

Turkey believes that some of the Kurdish groups in Syria are affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which is considered a terrorist organisation by Ankara. Turkey has stressed that it is not fighting against Syrian Kurds in general, but only against affiliates of the terrorist PKK, such as Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) and Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG).

UPDATED JANUARY 14, 2019 04:46 PM

RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA

If Mike Pompeo was surprised, he didn't show it. But the secretary of state had woken up in the capital of Saudi Arabia on Monday to find that President Donald Trump had tweeted a threat to NATO ally Turkey warning of economic harm should the Turks attack U.S.-backed rebel forces in Syria.

On the second-to-last stop of a Mideast tour dominated by questions and concerns from Arab leaders about Trump's abrupt order to withdraw American troops from Syria, Pompeo had to refer reporters' questions about the tweet to the White House. He said he assumed Trump was referring to the possibility of economic sanctions on Turkey if the Kurds were hit. But he couldn't speak definitively to the matter.

"We apply sanctions in many places around the world," Pompeo said, attempting to clarify Trump's threat. "I assume he's speaking about those kinds of things but you would have to ask him."

The scene at the news conference at the Riyadh airport played out amid what have become frequent unpleasant surprises for Trump administration officials trying to explain the policies of a president who often issues seemingly impulsive tweets and makes off-the-cuff comments that can disrupt the normal course of diplomacy.

Pompeo had not yet spoken to Turkish officials about Trump's vow to "devastate Turkey economically if they hit Kurds" as he spoke to reporters.

"I haven't had a chance to have any conversations with the Turks as of yet since the president's tweets went out, but I will I'm sure I will talk to them before too long," said Pompeo, who had just come from meetings with Saudi Arabia's king and crown prince that focused on the conflicts in Syria and Yemen and the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Just two days earlier, Pompeo had expressed confidence after a lengthy conversation with his Turkish counterpart that the U.S. and the Turks would reach an agreement to protect America's Kurdish partners in the fight against the Islamic State after U.S. troops leave Syria.

Trump's tweet threat appeared to throw such confidence into doubt, though he and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan later Monday said they spoke by phone and agreed to work together on the U.S. withdrawal from Syria. Trump also backed away from the economic threat in a later tweet, saying he and Erdogan discussed economic development and the creation of a 20-mile buffer zone along Turkey's border with Syria.

The president has repeatedly wreaked havoc with diplomacy, whether from the Syria withdrawal order and subsequent confusion over timing to suggestions that the American military presence in Afghanistan may be significantly reduced. He has also done it with comments throwing into question the U.S. commitment to NATO and about the pace and progress of trade talks with China.

The Syria order was too much for Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and the special envoy for the anti-IS coalition Brett McGurk, both of whom quit as a result. But they left on their own terms. Former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who was several times blindsided by Trump tweets, was fired via social media last year.

Others, like Pompeo, have gamely played on, joining Trump in accusing the media of inventing internal policy contradictions in the face of clear discord or at least confusion.

Pompeo's eight-nation Mideast mission was aimed at reassuring Arab allies that the Syria withdrawal doesn't mean the administration is abandoning the region.

The secretary said he managed to allay fears of an American retreat even as the U.S. military begins the Syria withdrawal process.

He at once defended the Syria withdrawal while insisting the administration is in it for the long haul in destroying the Islamic State and combatting Iran's increasing assertiveness in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Yemen.

He did so in part, he said on Saturday in Abu Dhabi, by bashing the previous administration's Mideast policies as naive and misguided and extoling the virtues of Trump's vision for the region.

"It is the case they get it, they understand," Pompeo said of the Arab leaders with whom he spoke.

And still, questions remain.

On Tuesday in Amman, Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi held out hope that U.S.-Jordanian cooperation on Syria would continue but seemed uncertain. "We've always coordinated and we trust that we'll continue to coordinate, and our security is something that has always been taken into account by our allies in Washington, and we trust that we'll continue to have this kind of relationship," he said.

In Cairo on Thursday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri noted pointedly that IS has been largely defeated but "the overall network of terrorist organizations goes far beyond that."

Shoukri's spoke shortly before Pompeo delivered a speech at the American University of Cairo in which he accused former President Barack Obama of "misguided" thinking that diminished the U.S. role in the region, led to the rise of the Islamic State and emboldened Iran.

Unsurprisingly, Pompeo's speech was panned by former Obama administration officials and foreign policy experts who complained it celebrated autocrats and made no mention of human rights abuses that sparked the 2011 Arab Spring uprisings that convulsed the Middle East and North Africa.

"Obviously the Pompeo speech, read alongside Obama's, seems a little nasty and undignified but in diplomacy you get judged by results, not by classiness," said former U.S. diplomat Steven Sestanovich, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. "And the results test may be the one Pompeo fails: Has he really reduced confusion about where the US is headed?"

Pompeo in Abu Dhabi denied he had attacked Obama, but only "the ideas that underlaid the previous administration's policies."

He added that most of his speech was intended to describe how the Trump administration is adjusting policies to fix problems such as the Islamic State.

And yet, those adjustments are coming fast and furious with often no or little warning, making the job of communicating them that much more difficult.

American deployment .. between the absorption of the forces withdrawn from Syria and impose a new reality

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States added more ambiguity about its strategy of withdrawing from Syria when the international coalition launched a "thoughtful withdrawal" in defiance of earlier assurances from senior US officials, such as Foreign Secretary Mike Pompeo or National Security Adviser John Bolton, who sought to circumvent President Trump's To mere intentions.

"Our careful withdrawal from Syria has started, in order to ensure the security of the operations, we will not announce timetables, locations or specific troop movements," Colonel Sean Ryan, spokesman for the US-led coalition, said.

Arab media quoted eyewitnesses living near border crossings with Iraq, usually used by US forces to enter and leave Syria, that they had not seen clear or large movements of US ground forces over the past two days on withdrawal and entry into Iraqi territory.

According to a strategic forecast, the withdrawing American forces will go to Iraq, especially the Kurdistan region for its proximity to Syria, and to strengthen bases in various cities of Iraq, which has sparked controversy during the past days, between the forces and parties in Iraq.

In turn, a member of the Committee on Security and Defense parliamentary prices are not surprising that Washington already has troops on Iraqi territory, and not new in the event of the arrival of other forces, there are ongoing movements of US forces in the Iraqi bases, pointing to the existence of mobility in the House of Representatives to frame the foreign presence in the country.

"The Security and Defense Committee has sent official letters to the Prime Minister, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the Army and the intelligence services, to find out the actual need for American forces in the country, and whether there is a need for such huge numbers of Forces on Iraqi territory in light of the development witnessed by the Iraqi military establishment.

He pointed out that the forces and advisers are categories that we can allow them to be present on our territory and according to the actual need only, "noting that" the presence of any foreign forces combat is not allowed at all without the approval of the House of Representatives, pointing out that "the agreements signed between Iraq and the states The United States had a lot of gaps that allow Washington to make gains at the expense of Iraq, especially with regard to the presence and spread and the nature of the use of the rules.

This comes after news that the US withdrawal from Syria will be towards Iraq to strengthen the presence of US forces in Iraqi territory.

The withdrawal process has turned into a vague game that in some respects suggests that there are qualitative disagreements about whether to stay in Syria or not among different spheres of influence in the United States, as revealed by the conflicting messages of high-ranking officials.

But this game may also represent an opportunity for the United States to test the plans of countries such as Turkey, Iran and Russia to fill the void after the withdrawal.

A spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said on Friday that Washington is looking for excuses to keep its military forces in Syria.

"Although the United States says it is leaving, it is looking for excuses to stay in Syria," she said, but stressed the need to transfer control of the territory from which US forces might withdraw to the Syrian government, in a clear position that cuts the way for Turkey, Moscow to its point of view under the banner of intervention against the "terrorist groups" and the Agency's offer in the war on the preacher.

According to the Iraqi security expert Muayad al-Juhaishi, the US forces withdrawn from Syria will reach Iraqi territory and will spread to some US bases, adding that these forces will strengthen the force currently deployed in various bases inside Iraqi territory.

%D9%85%D8%A4%D9%8A%D8%AF.png?resize=267%

Al-Juhaishi said in an interview with Al-Nour News that the American withdrawal from Syria is in fact a process for the exchange of forces. There will be no real withdrawal of all soldiers from the region, which has been a place of influence for the United States during the last period. The American threat to Tehran, and the threat to the American presence of some of the Iraqi armed factions. "

According to Iraqi military sources spoke to local media, all indicators indicate that the US forces will go to two bases: the first in the city of Erbil, capital of the Kurdistan region in the north, and the second in the west will go to the base of Al-Assad in the area of Baghdadi near the Iraqi-Syrian border in the west.

The source explained, preferring not to be named, that "this guess was based on the monitoring of two things following the announcement of the US President: the first deployment of US forces in the desert of Qaim province with Syria, where it spread in the desert region close to the border between the two countries, Assad in the district of al-Baghdadi west of Anbar province, without coordinating with the Iraqi side, or there is a reason for this maneuver. "

At the same time, new US forces arrived at the Ki-Wan base in the province of Kirkuk, within the intense movement of US forces in Iraq during the last period after the withdrawal from Syria.

A source familiar with the "Light News" that the US forces pushed reinforcements to some bases in Iraq, such as Ki-Wan in Kirkuk and the base of Qayara, where dozens of armored vehicles arrived recently, without knowing who was provided, but is expected to be coming from Syria, For its relative proximity to Qayara.

On Wednesday, over 20 civilians were killed and 19 others wounded as a result of an explosion in the centre of the city of Manbij, while a US military patrol was passing.

The military council of Manbij, Syria said that militants who had been plotting new terror attacks and who were getting orders from Turkish intelligence have been arrested.

"The antiterrorist squads of the council detained a cell of seven militants — members of opposition groups that participated in Operation ‘Euphrates Anger' and were supported by Turkey, acting in concert with Turkish intelligence," the statement said.

"They planned several explosions and acts similar to terrorist acts, following instructions directly from the ‘Euphrates Anger' groups and Turkish intelligence," the press service added.

Erdogan: Terror Attack in Manbij, Syria May Be Aimed to Influence US Withdrawal

A large number of weapons and ammunition, including grenades, Kalashnikov assault rifles and M6 rifles were seized from the militants during the searches.

A blast rocked a busy street in the Kurdish-held city of Manbij on 16 January. United States Central Command has confirmed that four Americans died as a result of the suicide attack. The Daesh* terrorist group reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack. According to the local military council, the blast occurred near a military patrol of the international coalition in the city.

The news came amid President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw US troops from Syria.

In mid-December, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that Turkey was ready to launch a military operation against the Kurdish-led People's Protection Units in Syria's Manbij if the United States did not remove the militia from there.

After a phone conversation with Donald Trump on 14 December, Erdogan said the military operation in Syria would be postponed.
