I’d be willing to bet that the important laws don’t get passed until late this year, if then...Jubouri is a joke.... as is parliament

I would be more comfortable if the results of this parliamentary session was based on a coin toss....while things appear to be lining up nicely, these guys and gals have proven that centuries of corruption and civil strife is a hard nut to crack and have walked thru so many "back walls" I have lost count. I evened you up for your pragmatic evaluation.

Baghdad - Journal

The head of the parliamentary legal committee in the House of Representatives, Mohsen al-Saadoun, on Sunday, the readiness of the Federal Court and the Council of the Union to vote in case the Presidency of the Council of Representatives requested it.

"These two laws need to be attended by two-thirds of the members of the House of Representatives to approve them as stipulated by the Constitution, more than 210 deputies, and this led to the delay of their approval so far by some political differences between the blocks on the paragraphs of the two important laws."

He added that "the adoption of laws in the shelves of parliamentary committees depends on the will of the political blocs to approve, as well as the presence of members of the House of Representatives to the sessions, pointing out that" the activation of cutting the amount of money from the salaries of deputies because of absence can ensure their presence to the remaining sessions of the parliament.

It is scheduled to hold a meeting of the House of Representatives next Tuesday, to complete the vote on the laws contained in the agendas.

The Presidency of Parliament recently decided to set a date for a session to vote on draft laws and proposals on the agenda and the other will be added to the table later.

Baghdad / Al-Ghad Press:

It seems that the meetings of the remaining life of the Iraqi parliament, will be the most "neglect" after the adoption of the most prominent law during the last stage, the "Federal General Budget", while 20 will remain in place, pending the completion of the parliamentary quorum at each session to vote it and approved as a text to be implemented .

As candidates prepare for the next legislative elections of the current parliamentarians, for their promotional campaigns and win the voters, awaiting the files of the task of withdrawing from the drawers of the parliament and address during the next phase, the most important law "oil and gas," which was discussed for more than a parliamentary session without reaching a final result between the blocks As in the case of justice, human rights, civil conditions, corruption and economic and security issues, such as the investigation into the fall of Mosul.

It is clear that the vote on the law of the "federal budget" for the year 2018, was the conclusion of parliamentary work in some political blocs, according to MP from the National Coalition Jamila al-Obeidi. It says that "some parliamentarians and once approved the federal budget, their motivation to attend the parliamentary sessions, because some are busy in the election campaign and the other did not run in the elections."

She added in an interview for "Al-Gharab Press", "The important laws are still in Parliament and did not vote on them during the past four years," excluded at the same time "to be voted during the coming sessions, such as laws: oil, gas and federal service and the law of parties and laws People ".

For his part, the MP from the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Islam Hussein, told "Al-Gharab Press" that "the Kurdistan Alliance deputies will attend during the coming sessions to vote on the important laws that did not vote on them," noting that "there is in all blocs, including Kurdistan, some MPs Who will not attend the meetings because of their concern with regard to elections and candidates and this subject is too early to be preoccupied with it. "

He pointed out that "20 important laws are still stuck in parliament, despite the arrival of some of them to the stage of advanced to vote," and expected that "the majority of parliamentarians will not be in the coming sessions, because of their concerns in other things."

It is worth mentioning that the most controversial laws that have been in the parliament for more than one parliamentary session are the Federal Supreme Court Law. This has caused many problems among the political forces, as it aims to establish a council of judges with one president, a vice president and eleven members chosen from Various judicial units, including the judiciary itself and experts in Islamic jurisprudence, and members of the "jurisprudents".

In turn, the parliamentary candidate for the National Alliance Razak al-Haidari, not to hold any meeting because of the absence of a quorum for parliamentary presence. Al-Haidari told Al-Ghad Press that he believes that the next session will be the least of its predecessors and will not be achieved.

"A political custom prevailed during the parliament, which stipulates that most MPs spend most of their time in election propaganda and their preoccupation with this aspect," he said.

From what I gathered they are trying to finish up these laws in parliament before April 1st, which is when election and candidate business can legally begin. Parliament attendance records should be made public for any of these deputies attempting to run for any candidacy. Especially seeing that they've left so many laws behind that parliament has been trying to pass for such a long time. Especially the most important laws. You would think that unfinished business in parliament would look bad on them.

Agreed.  Sad to say, if we're to see results from our quest anytime soon, we depend on whether they can bother to show up to do the same job that they're so anxious to get re-elected to.

I'm normally an optimist, but these ain't great odds.

It should be the job of The Speaker of the House to report each representatives track record for attendance to the sessions for this group. Let the numbers speak for themselves. That might even allow all Iraqis to see who bothers to show up and represent them. That is the very heart of the corruption. Misinformation and keeping them ignorant...  😡
