ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – On Sunday, an Iraqi ministerial delegation arrived in Erbil and met with senior officials from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to discuss relations between the two governments.

Titled “Joint-meeting between the federal delegation for economic affairs and the council of ministers of the Kurdistan Regional Government – Iraq,” the two sides are slated to discuss lingering disputes between Erbil and Baghdad and ways to address them.

The delegates are meeting “to further coordination and understanding to resolve the [remaining] issues” between the central and regional governments, second deputy parliament speaker, Bashir Haddad, told Kurdistan 24 late Saturday.

The Iraqi delegation included a number of ministers as well as the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, while the Kurdish delegation was headed by the KRG Prime Minister, Nechirvan Barzani, and the Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC) Chancellor and nominee for the future premiership, Masrour Barzani.

This is the largest such meeting between Erbil and Baghdad since the formation of the federal government headed by Adil Abdul-Mahdi, who maintains good relations with the Kurds.

The meeting began at noon, with PM Barzani delivering a speech in which he reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to peaceful dialogue to resolve bilateral disputes.

On Thursday, Iraqi oil minister Thamer Ghadhban said that the chief focus of the meeting would be disputes over oil exports and other budget items.

Ties between the two governments continue to improve followers ing a near-complete breakdown in the aftermath of the Kurdish bid for independence in 2017 that culminated with the previous federal administration’s attack on Peshmerga-protected disputed territories, obliging the latter forces’ retreat from the areas they had spared from the Islamic State.

Iraq’s Parliamentary Speaker, Mohammed al-Halbousi, arrived in the Kurdistan Region last Monday and met with senior leaders as well as KRG officials, including the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Masoud Barzani.

ERBIL — A high-level delegation led by Iraq’s Planning Minister Nouri Dilemi has arrived in Erbil to discuss the remaining disputes between the Iraqi federal government and the regional government of Kurdistan.

The first meeting was attended by Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani, Security Council Chancellor Masrour Barzani, and other senior Kurdish officials, including ministers.

Masrour Barzani, is nominated to lead the next Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), which is due to be established. He is known for a successful tenure as security chief in Kurdistan during years-long of war against the Islamic State (IS). 

Minister Dilemi said the remaining issues which will be in focus of discussions including customs and quality control in Kurdistan Region.

BasNews has learned that Erbil’s share from Iraq’s federal budget and salaries of Kurdistan Region public servants will also be discussed.

ERBIL — Kurdistan Region sees a framework to organize closer cooperation between Erbil and Baghdad as a vital step towards addressing disputes, said Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani.

The remarks were made during a meeting between a high-level delegation from Baghdad and top Kurdish officials in Erbil on Sunday.

The meeting was attended by PM Barzani and Kurdistan Region Security Council Chancellor Masrour Barzani, who is nominated to lead the next government as the prime minister.

Chancellor Barzani has been successful in his tenure as security chief of Kurdistan during years long of war against the Islamic State. He is expected to make remarkable progress in relations between Erbil, Baghdad, and outside world once taking office as the prime minister. 

The Iraqi delegation is in Erbil to discuss the remaining disputes with Kurdish counterparts, including differences related to customs, quality control and budget.

Barzani welcomed the initiative and said holding such a meeting is a prove to the will which seeks a solution through dialogue and peaceful means.

“All the issues between Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi federal government should be addressed through negotiations and based on the Iraqi Constitution,” Barzani pointed out.

“It is important to set a framework for cooperations between Erbil and Baghdad. We understand that they’re in the implementation process[of the decisions], but it remains our responsibility to work together and overcome obstacles.”

Barzani noted that Erbil will also work to address the disputes pertaining to oil and the disputed areas which are the base of a genuine federal system.

Serokwezîrê Herêma Kurdistanê Nêçîrvan Barzanî û Şêwirmendê Encûmena Asayişa Herêma Kurdistanê Mesrur Barzanî ligel şandeke bilind a hikûmeta Iraqê civiyan. Şandeke bilind a hikûmeta Iraqê li Hewlêrê ye û wê ligel serokê Hikûmeta Herêma Kurdistanê Nêçîrvan Barzanî û Şêwirmendê Encûemna Asayîşa Herêma Kurdistanê Mesrûr Barzanî dicive. Nêçîrvan Barzanî ragihand ku lidarxistineke civîneke bi wî rengî cihê dilxweşiyê ye û ew tekezî li ser çareserkirina pirsgirêkan bi rêya diyalogê li gor destûra Iraqê dikin û got: “Lidarxistina civîna aborî ya hikûmeta Iraqê nîşan dide ku baweriya her du aliyan bi diyalog û hevfamkirinê heye bo çareserkirina pirsgirêkan.” Nêçîrvan Barzanî destnîşan kir ku girîng e ku çarçoveyek hevbeş di navbera Herêma Kurdistanê û Bexdayê de hebe û got ew dê hewl bidin li ser pirsgirêkên petrolê û deverên Kurdistanî yên li dervey îdareya Herêma Kurdistanê bigihên rêkeftinê. Serokwezîrê Herêma Kurdistanê di heman demê de amaje bi wê yekê kir ku hinek yasayên ku li pêşiya geşbûna sîstema federalî ya welêt dibin asteng jî, werin rakirin.
