BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The Iraqi Foreign Ministry announced on Saturday that the Security Council issued a resolution on the withdrawal of Iraq from Chapter VII, indicating that it came after a series of diplomatic successes, to turn Iraq into the legacy of tyrant Saddam, who caused the loss of lives and wealth for decades.
"After a series of diplomatic successes achieved by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, its efforts culminated in the issuance of a UN Security Council resolution to remove Iraq from Chapter VII in the oil-for-food program and restore it to its natural status and international standing," ministry spokesman Ahmad Mahjoub said in a statement.

"This came after Iraq completed all the commitments of the program," Mahjoub said.

The following is the text of the Security Council resolution:

(In continuation of the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq to end the files of Iraq in the Security Council inherited from the era of the former regime and issued pursuant to Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations, this ministry, through our representative in New York, to consult with the United States and other Member States For the adoption of resolution 2390 (2017) adopted unanimously by the Security Council on 8 December 2017, in which the Security Council concluded that the parties (Iraq and the United Nations) have fully implemented the measures imposed by Chapter VII under resolutions 1958 (2010) 2335 (2016) The new RAR is an important step in the restoration of Iraq's natural status and international standing, which confirms the end of Iraq's obligations under Chapter VII on the oil-for-food program after it was implemented in full)

On 30 March 2017, Prime Minister Haidar Abadi stressed the continued existence of work in cooperation with the United Nations to close the file of Chapter VII, noting that his government supports the international efforts to hunt down and punish the "terrorists". UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appealed to the international community To assist Iraq in the relief of displaced persons and the reconstruction of liberated areas.

The Iraqi-Kuwaiti relations have recently seen progress in resolving some of the outstanding problems. The two sides agreed during the visit of former Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki to Kuwait in March 2012 to end the issue of compensation related to Kuwait Airways and the maintenance of border signs. Foundations and common frameworks for solving all files, within short time tables.

Kuwait has demanded that Iraq pay $ 1.2 billion in compensation for its seizure of 17 aircraft owned by Kuwait Airways since 1990. The file has led to political problems between Iraq and Kuwait after the latter sued Iraqi Airways for freezing assets in Jordan and Britain. 2010, which led to the decision of the Iraqi Council of Ministers in May of the same year, the liquidation and cancellation of the company and offered to sell to private companies, and also decided to cancel all associated administrative formations, while retaining the cadre after the sale to a private company.
