Just trying to clarify....Ā  Does this mean Iraq is totally out from under Chapter 7 sanctions?Ā  Because I understandĀ this to mean that they are only released from the Chapter 7 sanctions that apply to the "oil for food" program.Ā  Can someone clarify if there are still some other aspects of Chapter 7 sanctions that are still held against Iraq?Ā  I thought there were several minor issues/areas (this being one of them), but maybe I'm wrong.Ā  Anyone?????

The curtain on the 27 years of the 'dark era'

10/12/2017 12:00 amĀ

Caused by the ruthlessness of the regime and its disastrous adventuresĀ

Baghdad / Follow-up morningĀ

Iraq came out of the sanctions Chapter VII imposed by the UN Security Council following the disastrous adventurous adventures of Saddam Hussein's regime 27 years ago by the invasion of Kuwait, which cost Iraq and Iraqis a high price was not exposed to a country in the world, where the infrastructure was destroyed and millions died After the fall of the idol in 2003, successive governments sought to lift the injustice and injustice inflicted on the Iraqi people by the international community, and the people of Iraq, Result xĀ Saddam Hussein, and yesterday culminated in those diplomatic and political efforts to declare Iraq out of Chapter VII and to close the file of the program "oil for food" notorious, and restore the full sovereignty and prestige of international prestige thatĀ Worth it.Ā

The roots of the case date back to 1990. On August 2, Iraqis and the world agreed to declare Saddam the occupation of the State of Kuwait after its invasion at the dawn of that day and then open the gates of Hell. The tragedy of Iraq begins with the resolutions of the UN Security Council,Ā

Summary:Ā

On August 3, 1990, the UN Security Council issued Resolution 660 condemning the (invasion of Kuwait) demanding that Iraq immediately withdraw its forces from its territory.Ā

* On August 6, 1990, the UN Security Council issued its resolution No. 661, under which Iraq placed under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations, which included the prevention of import from Iraq and export to it, and the imposition of the complete embargo on all its economic, commercial and financial transactions, and prevent Iraq by the disposal of funds deposited in Banks and foreign institutions and granted the GCC countries the right to intervene militarily to force him to implement his previous decision to remove the forces of the regime from Kuwait.Ā

On November 28, 1990, Resolution 677 was issued condemning attempts by the former regime to change the demographic composition of Kuwait.Ā
On November 29, 1990, Resolution No. 678 granted the UN Security Council a last chance for a system of shock to retreat and implement international resolutions to leave Kuwait. The Council expressly authorized Chapter VII to use force.Ā

Desert Storm WarĀ

After all the previous UN Security Council resolutions against Iraq because of Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait and intransigence of refusing to withdraw from them, the US-led international coalition led by 35 warring states stormed the desert on the night of 16-17 January 1991, And the killing of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, and after more than 40 days, Saddam Hussein approved in a humiliating manner and agreed to withdraw from Kuwait after the destruction of most pieces of the Iraqi army and the total destruction of the country to be followed by a series of other resolutions of the Security Council under Chapter VII,Ā
On March 2, 1991, Resolution 686 was issued requiring Iraq to accept compensation for all losses resulting from Saddam's invasion of Kuwait and his commitment to implement all previous resolutions.Ā
On April 3, 1991, the Council issued its resolution 687, which imposes on Iraq the demarcation of the border with Kuwait and its disarmament, which affect peace in the region and the establishment of a special team to destroy its stocks of chemical materials and weapons.Ā
On April 5, 1991, the Council issued a resolution condemning the repression of the former regime of the population in southern and northern Iraq.Ā

* On November 12, 1997, Resolution 1137, which rejects Iraq's request to set conditions on special inspection committees and obligates it to fully implement its obligations under Chapter VII.Ā

Beyond 2003Ā
After the fall of the former regime on 9 April 2003, Iraqi diplomacy and successive governments sought to remove Iraq from Chapter VII, and Iraqi efforts culminated in the following resolutions:Ā

* Resolutions 1956/1957/1958 of 15 December 2010, which include the termination of measures for weapons of mass destruction, the termination of arrangements for the deposit of oil and gas revenues in the Development Fund.Ā

* Resolution 2335 of 30 December 2016, by which the Council reviews the report on the escrow accounts submitted by the Secretary-General of the United Nations.Ā

* Resolution 2390 on 8 December 2017, which was the removal of Iraq from Chapter VII and the transfer of powers to use funds deposited within the so-called oil-for-food program to the Iraqi government.

BAGHDAD / AĀ
spokesman for Prime Minister Saad al-Hadithi's press office said on Saturday that the Security Council's decision to remove Iraq from Chapter VII would mean achieving full Iraqi sovereignty, pointing out that it coincided with the declaration of salvation from calling for the liberation of all Iraqi territories.Ā
Al-Hadithi said in a press statement: "We can say that Iraqi sovereignty has been achieved in full and that Iraq has a real opportunity to rise and regain its status after restoring confidence to the international community." Iraq and deposits and real estate assets and banking abroad and inside and became immune from prosecution because of lawsuits against the background of the 1991 war in Kuwait and ensure their return to Iraq and not freeze.
He added that Ā«the decision also entails the return of confidence between Iraq and the international community, which began to escalate and open doors to major international companies to invest in IraqĀ», pointing out that Ā«new horizons opened to Iraq in terms of foreign relations, especially as Iraq has become the focus of admiration of the international community after Its ability to confront terrorism and eliminate it, and that the opportunity has become favorable for an economic renaissance in Iraq Ā».
