BAGHDAD - Iraqi forces seized control of areas under the control of Kurdish forces in Nineveh province, which includes the northern city of Mosul, on Tuesday night, an Iraqi army statement said.

The Kurdish Peshmerga fighters had left these areas before the arrival of Iraqi forces.

The Mosul dam in the northwest of the city is one of the sites recovered by Iraqi forces from the Peshmerga's grip, the statement said.

Iraqi forces announced on Wednesday they had completed "security" in Kirkuk during the military operations in the last 48 hours, allowing them to recover areas controlled by the Kurdish Peshmerga forces in Kirkuk, Diyala and Nineveh.

"The command of security operations in Kirkuk" in the statement "to complete the imposition of security for the rest of Kirkuk and included the elimination of Debbs and the area of the forum and the field of Khabaz and the field of Bay Hassan North and Bay Hassan South," adding, "The rest of the areas, the redeployment and control of Khanaqin and Jalula in Diyala , As well as the redeployment and control of the district of Makhmour and his lover and the dam of Mosul and the area of Awainat and Sinjar and the province of Rabia and some areas in the Nineveh Plain in the province of Nineveh.

The head of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament, Yusuf Mohammed, Tuesday, the President of the Kurdistan region Massoud Barzani to step down from power, noting that "will provide a great service to the people of Kurdistan upon his resignation."

"We are all prisoners of a political elite working to control the country's wealth in order to expand its authority," Mohammed said in a special speech on the situation in Kirkuk. "This political elite is trading with the sacrifices of the people and the blood of its martyrs."

"The Peshmerga tournaments painted a beautiful picture of resistance and sacrifice," he said, expressing regret that "these sacrifices can not be made as a basis for a legitimate, constitutional and civilized rule."

"Barzani, who has ruled lawfully and illegitimately for 12 years at the head of the power pyramid, should offer a great service to his people through his resignation from office," he said. "He said.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi told reporters at the Iraqi government headquarters on Tuesday evening that "the referendum of Kurdistan has ended and has become the past."

"I informed the Kurdish leadership that the referendum would harm the interests of the citizens of the Kurds first and will not enter the internal war I said earlier and repeat now."

"Any attack on any citizen in Kirkuk is an attack on us and warn any group in Kirkuk and the disputed areas to carry out any act of sabotage, and I call on the politicians of the province not to reduce the Peshmerga forces by dividing them into parties and groups."

"Our approach is to draw the borders with peace as opposed to those who want them with blood, and the Iraqi flag should be raised all over Iraq," Abadi said.
