k98nights Posted July 15, 2010 Report Share Posted July 15, 2010 Alcoholic drinks confiscated on border Thursday, July 15th 2010 1:22 PM Diyala, July 15 (AKnews) – A military source confirmed today that some 50 cartons of alcoholic drinks were seized in Khanaqin and their owner is yet to be identified. Sarchil Abdul-Kareem told AKnews on Thursday "Last night a unit from the eighth military battalion of the Iraqi Army seized 50 cartons of alcoholic drinks between Qalama and Pala Chaft villages on the Parvizkhan border gate". The stuff was to be transferred to Iran illegally but it was confiscated and handed to Khanaqin court, he added. "Our battalion has began investigation in the case but has not found any traces, yet", Abdul-Kareem declared. Khanaqin is one of the pending areas between the Iraqi and Kurdistan Regional Governments as regards its administration. Since 2003 the township is secured jointly by the Iraqi government forces and forces from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), locally known as Peshmarga.
