The economic expert Dhargham Mohammed, on Monday, attributed the loss of funds of the former regime abroad to the lack of action by the State Department and the Attorney General towards those funds, pointing out that some parties are trying to control most of those money and property.

"The absence of a database on the funds and the value of the property of the former regime and its consequences is due to the lack of seriousness of the government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to form committees for the inspection of confiscated property," Mohammed said in a statement.

He added that "the money recovered by the United Nations under the seventh item is not commensurate with the volume of funds abroad at all," noting that "what was raised about the funds in Lebanon is still uncertain so far and the public prosecutor did not provide any documents proving the return of money" .

"If there are any amounts outside Iraq, the political parties will seek to acquire him because of the government's lack of seriousness in retrieving the funds," he said. Ending / 25 d

Abadi has been in politics a long time. It's not like he just found out about these

people, i'm sure he was part of it just a few years ago. I'm just as sure Maliki knows

everything about Abadi's involvement and that't why Maliki is still walking around a

free man without a care in the world. These guys are all up to their necks in this dirty

business of stealing the peoples money. My own personal opinion is the leaders will

start another war so they will be off the hook with the IMF and not have to RV. That

way the system of stealing can keep going. It wouldn't surprise me if the iran leaders

all ready have a war plan after baiting the US and Isreal into an attack. The sanctions

just started and iran is going broke. (and the answer is?) WAR.

Pitcher, Thanks for your posts. At least action is being taken, and  this isn't an article that just talks about creating a committee to consider creating a commission to review the problem. This post actually reminds me of an article I read here a few years ago in which the author stated that 'eveeyone' in the Iraqi government was corrupt - including him! It was a very educational piece that seemed to have hope for the future, and that future -at least part of it- may have finally arrived.

Donziman, I see your point, and know anything  is possible in Iraq, especially given the timing of many previous setbacks. Those in power in Iraq will eventually have to function legitimately  if they want to maintain the lifestyle they've achieved. If not then the protests of late may evolve into an uprising or even a coup.

The total investigation of files related to financial and administrative corruption during the four years of the current government lasted more than 5000 people with different positions and degrees of employment, said Saad al-Hadithi, a spokesman for Prime Minister's Office Haider al-Abadi.

Al-Hadithi told Ashqaf News that "the statistics confirm that the competent authorities during the life of the current government until the end of last July conducted investigations with about 5300 officials at the level of director general or a deputy minister or adviser or minister or the head of a provincial council or governor or member of an independent body"

He pointed out that "1076 accused have been referred to the judiciary and issued judgments against 314 convicted," saying that "the orders of recruitment included 2208 accused, while issued arrest warrants against 800 others."

Abadi's media office announced on Tuesday that it had referred senior officials to the Integrity Commission to investigate files of corruption.

The central and southern governorates of Iraq are witnessing widespread protests against the deterioration of the service and living conditions, the spread of financial and administrative corruption and the high rate of unemployment within the society, prompting the government to take a series of urgent measures to meet the demands of demonstrators.
