{Baghdad: Euphrates News} directed the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces Prime Minister, Haider al – Abadi, a place to declare victory in the city of Mosul.
According to security sources told {Euphrates News} “will announce Abadi , astatement of victory from somewhere else.”

I too have kept the poor folks of Nineveh in my prayers for some time. And, YES, I think that even though there is much work to be done to ease their suffering; the difference between waking up in a city where some freak might chop off your head just for looking at  him the wrong way and waking up in a city with peace MOST CERTAINLY IS VICTORY. 

Our continued prayers for the children of Nineveh is much needed.

Did he say "the speed" of the Iraqis to eliminate Daesh?  I don't know if I would consider 3 years as "speed".  

 

I do hope he gives special thanks to the Peshmerga and the Coalition also.  If Trump wasn't President, and we still had the previous guy, they would be fighting Daesh for a few more years and who knows if they would have won the battle?

Iraq PM declares victory in Mosul

IRBIL, Iraq — Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi arrived in Mosul Sunday to celebrate with troops for their victory over the Islamic State after an eight-month grueling battle for control of the city.

Despite ongoing fighting with the last remnants of Islamic State fighters who previously vowed to fight to the death, al-Abadi “arrived in the liberated city of Mosul and congratulated the heroic fighters and Iraqi people for the great victory,” the prime minister's office said in a statement.

The Islamic State, also known as ISIS, now controls less than a square mile in Mosul’s Old City, but is using human shields, suicide bombers and snipers in the final fight, the Associated Press reported.

 

A military spokesman, Brig. Gen. Yahya Rassol, told state TV that 30 militants had been killed as they tried to flee by swimming across the Tigris River. In the final days, ISIS sent increasing numbers of suicide bombers to attack Iraqi troops and the remaining civilians fleeing the city.

"At this point, they all start to bomb themselves, men and women," said Lt. Gen. Abed al Hagani al Asadi of the Iraqi special forces.

While ISIS fighters remain in Iraq, a majority of them are concentrated in the city of Tal Afar, nearly 40 miles west of Mosul, as well as rural areas throughout northern Iraq, according to the Iraqi special forces.

ISIS sleeper cells remain concealed among escaped civilians and in some liberated areas, who could potentially carry out attacks for weeks or months.

However, last month's raising of the Iraqi flag over the shattered al-Nuri mosque — where ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in 2014 had declared his caliphate — symbolized that ISIS had lost its most important stronghold, along with thousands of fighters who tried to keep it under the militants' control.

Iraqi forces battled for about three months before capturing eastern Mosul, and another five months to gain control of the western part of the city — longer than the Iraqi military expected. 

 

Thousands of civilians died at the hands of ISIS fighters and from coalition airstrikes and close to 1 million people were displaced. Half of eastern Mosul and the vast majority of western Mosul lie in ruins, according to the Nineveh provincial government.

"Mosul is completely destroyed," said Emad al-Rashidi, the adviser to the governor of Nineveh province.

Three-quarters of the roads, almost all the bridges and 65% of the electrical network have been destroyed, according to Asien Hamza, manager of Nineveh's reconstruction committee. In addition, much of the city's water infrastructure has been booby-trapped by the militants.

The city was once home to 1.8 million people, but more than 875,000 are displaced. Many can't return because their houses or livelihoods are gone.

Iraq now faces a tough road toward reconstruction and reconciliation, plus undoing the damage that ISIS left behind. But on Sunday, the forces that recaptured the bulk of the city felt justified to celebrate.

"ISIS is finished," said Commander Mohammed Tariq Ali of the army's 16th Division. "No more ISIS."

Information Office of the Prime Minister said in a statement seen by Roudao media network, that Abadi held a "meeting with Alsnov squad leaders in Ninawa Operations Command headquarters in the city of Mosul this evening." 

Ebadi said that "victory is settled and the remnants of Daesh are trapped in the last Alochaabar," following up "it is a matter of time to announce to our people the great victory, and that it comes to respect and appreciation fervid to our forces that continue cleansing process and give it more support and determination to end the lie and myth Daesh forever and eliminate the last terrorist on the land of Mosul. " 

He continued: "We have come today to the field we learn and we oversee the battle only pocket was left or two pockets of remnants Daesh not only in front of them smuggler of death or surrender , so the battle is settled and the great victory by hand."

Held Abadi, commander of the armed forces, meetings with military and security leaders in Ninawa Operations Command headquarters, the army, in the city of Mosul , where he arrived at noon today. 

The transfer of Iraqi state television footage of the tour Abadi central districts of the western and eastern sides of the city, the center gathered thousands of people in Mosul, celebrating the second liberation of the country 's largest population after the capital Baghdad. 

Immediately after Iraqi television restore Mosul, after fighting for more than eight and a half months continued, citizens took to the streets in Baghdad and central and southern governorates to celebrate. 

And hundreds of Iraqis gathered in Tahrir Square and the areas of Karrada and Mansour and the New Baghdad in the capital, waving Iraqi flags and chanting slogans condemning the "Daesh". 

The provinces of Babil, Najaf, Karbala, Diwaniyah, Basra, Maysan , Dhi Qar and Wasit in southern Iraq also witnessed a large - scale celebrations restoration of Mosul, the last major stronghold for "Daesh" in Iraq. 

Iraqi forces recaptured the entire eastern part of Mosul, on January 24 last, then began on February 19 last battles to restore the western side. 

And it caused these battles in the displacement of about half of the population of Mosul, where displaced about 920 thousand people out of the city 's population of nearly two million people, as well as extensive material destruction.

Okay . . . I was wrong I guess ? We are not there yet, even though we were, cuz pretty sure they said so, but actually not. Declare Victory only to walk the statement back, how many times ? This is a bit much. 

 

DAMN, they called a Mulligan. I've lost count how many times Mosul was liberated, NOT  - OY VEY !
