  • yota691 changed the title to Iraqi oil production capacity is close to 5 million barrels per day

14:47 13.01.2018

Iraq's oil minister, Jabbar al-Luaibi, said on Saturday that his country's production capacity was close to five million barrels a day, but the country would fully comply with the target production rate under a global agreement to cut supplies.

Al-Luaibi told reporters in Abu Dhabi that oil production from Iraq is currently about 4.3 million barrels per day, according to Reuters.

He said an agreement to cut oil production between OPEC and non-OPEC producers should continue despite a strong rise in oil prices, noting that oil markets still need more time to stabilize.

On the other hand, Al-Luaibi said at an energy conference in Abu Dhabi that his ministry plans to conclude three contracts with international gas companies by the middle of this year for the use of gas in the south of the country.

He said that Iraq plans to eliminate the burning of gas associated with the extraction of oil without exploitation by 2021.

Iraq is forced to burn some of the rising gas during the process of extraction of crude oil because it does not have suitable facilities to enter into a process that allows use.
