BEIRUT - An Iranian Revolutionary Guard general took over the post of Iranian ambassador to Baghdad on Wednesday, a reference to the main role played by the Revolutionary Guards in Iraq.

According to Tasnim's news website, Ambassador Erj Musjidi has served as an adviser to Qasim Soleimani in Iraq. Sulaimani is the commander of the Quds Force, the Revolutionary Guards branch responsible for operations outside Iran.

Since the Islamic state took control of areas in Iraq in 2014, Soleimani has worked with Iraqi security officials and Shi'ite militias he oversees and has trained in Iran to fight the militant group, mainly through the pro-Tehran pro-government Popular Struggle units.

"Iran wants an advanced, strong, secure and united Iraq," the official IRNA news agency quoted Lamsajdi as saying on Tuesday in Baghdad.

Tehran has sent dozens of military advisers and fighters to Iraq and neighbor Syria, where it supports the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Military advice is used to cover Iran's direct involvement in conflicts, infiltration and infiltration into Iraq, especially in Iraq.

Musdi has more than 35 years of experience in the Revolutionary Guards and a deep knowledge of Iraq, according to ISNA.

According to the Iranian news website Mezan, during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s, Masjedi was commander of a Revolutionary Guards base in western Iran that was a center for Iraqi opposition groups to plan and carry out military operations against Saddam Hussein's forces on Iraqi soil.

The leaders of some of these armed groups are now senior officials in Iraq.
