The chairman of the Jordan Free Zone Investors Association (NAFC) Nabil Rumman called Wednesday for the government to issue an official statement from the relevant authorities on the date of the start of the export of Jordanian products to the Iraqi market via the Karama crossing.

"The investors in the Jordanian free zones are waiting to start exporting their goods to the Iraqi market through the Karama crossing to the Trebil crossing," the Jordanian newspaper Al-Rai said. "Free zones exported about $ 3 billion a year Vehicles and products ".

He added that "the customs centers were not instructed until yesterday to open any customs export data towards Iraq," and called on "the competent authorities to announce the official date of opening Al-Karama crossing in front of Jordanian goods."

The border terminal between Jordan and Iraq resumed its work recently in front of the transport, export and import movement after a halt that lasted more than two years due to the security incidents that controlled the western regions of Iraq.

The Tripoli crossing is of great importance to the trade exchange between the two countries for the importance of the Iraqi market for Jordanian exports. Iraq is the second largest export market to Jordan after the United States, which means restoring things to what it was and confidence in the continuation of industrial sector growth.

Parliamentary Security: Security will stand in the way of preventing the activation of an industrial zone between Iraq and Jordan

Range / Zahraa Al Jassim

A few days after the opening of the port of Trebil border between Iraq and Jordan was agreed between the parties on the establishment of a joint industrial zone on the border, has been requested from the Jordanian-Iraqi Company for Industry quickly completed the development of perceptions of the industrial joint area in preparation for the start of implementation, which raised many questions On how to establish an industrial zone on the outskirts of the city of Anbar, which is still considered the area of military operations, while an economist said that the establishment of industrial zones near the provinces first of its establishment in remote areas and unthought, especially that such a city will not be in the interest of It will serve the Jordanian side, which is ready to export its goods, materials and other things, which in itself is a matter of concern for the Iraqi industrialists.

The Iraqi Minister of Industry, Mohamed Shi'a al-Sudani announced on 10-9-2017 that Iraq and Jordan are working to establish an industrial partnership between them to the benefit of the two countries, while his Jordanian counterpart said that his country believes in the strength of Iraq's economic ability to overcome the current circumstances, especially after the victories on terrorism . It seems that the establishment of any industrial zone in a far distance and in a city whose conditions are still very harsh and the western region incomplete liberalization, is impractical, as economist Amer Jawahri said in an interview with (to the extent), "If this region is established no industrial Iraqi to go for the work of industrial project, he will certainly think who will manage this project and who will help him to accomplish, adding: But even when we are talking about an industrial zone means a full area of services must be implemented fenced and secured and paved roads and available all services of water and sewage and electricity, so the establishment of this area in the security conditions surrounding the province and so far away is very difficult and Right. Al-Jawahiri added: "If the implementation of this industrial zone is achieved, it must be a source and channel for the passage and export of the Jordanian goods, and may even turn into a free zone or store for them, and not because Iraq has nothing to issue at present." This region will serve the Jordanian side, which is ready to export its goods, commodities and other things, whether produced inside Jordan or from non-Jordanian goods, the place of its manufacture is changed to enter Iraq as Jordanian goods, and this in itself is worrying and frightening for us as economists.
He stressed that giving any privileges or tax or customs exemptions on goods, whether Jordanian or other, is another extremely dangerous matter, and if it is necessary to establish a free zone it is better to set up near the provincial centers, not 400 km from the capital, Because the industrial Iraqi today need to be the establishment of an industrial zone close to the provinces, on the other hand was the first day we concern the Iraqi industrialists at home, we have many obstacles in the establishment of industrial projects and the owner of the Iraqi industrial project today can not follow his project in Baghdad itself or at Babel or any other province, and there are many obstacles facing the establishment of any industrial industrial project. For example, the project of production of reinforcing steel in the region of Khor al-Zubayr encountered many obstacles that led to non-continuation, and was the first to be established industrial zones near centers Governorates to be fully serviced.
"Yes, it may take a period of years to complete, not months, but it will have a great positive impact on the economy in the country, which makes us able to establish multiple industrial areas, whether close or remote, to start nearby, especially as there is an industrial zone in Khor Al-Zubair And there is a plan for the establishment of an industrial zone allocated to the land within 10 kilometers from Najaf. There is also a plan to implement an industrial zone near Anbar, and this is what we encourage to work on first and then think of remote industrial areas.
On the other hand, a member of the parliamentary economic committee Zaytun al-Dulaimi said in an interview with (the extent) that the activation of trade and economic cooperation between Iraq and neighboring countries is a very important subject, and we see that the quest to open the port of Trebil participated in international efforts, because it means the continuation of trade between Iraq and all Neighboring countries, on the other hand, there is a quest and objectives of the government to establish projects and targets large and many and for the development of investment projects and trade between Iraq and its regional and even between him and the countries of the world, but everyone understands that the security situation has been and still does not implement all these projects and objectives.
Talk about the establishment of an industrial zone between Iraq and Jordan is still under study, and it is too early to work on it because it requires a lot of steps to achieve it. When the time is set for establishing this area, it has to pass on to the parliamentary economic committee to discuss it and express opinion about it. You must take into consideration from the beginning the development of local industries because the Iraqi industries are not insignificant and must be developed and we have projects in the fertilizer industry, petrochemicals and cement, because in the event of evolution can add to the economies of the country and much of the world's treasury And stressed the need to protect our national industry in order to eliminate a very serious issue, which is dumping the Iraqi market with the imported goods that were and still are entering Iraq without fees or as a vehicle, thus eliminating the national industry.

  • yota691 changed the title to Iraq is moving to the port of Aqaba to discuss the increase of trade exchange

A Jordanian-Iraqi meeting will be held in Aqaba next week to discuss various economic, trade and investment issues in order to increase the volume of bilateral trade, especially after the re-opening of the closed Trebil crossing since July 2015, in addition to stimulating the private sector in the two countries to establish joint investment projects, Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority.
He pointed out that the reopening of shipping lines and sea and land transport will be discussed, especially as the Jordanian ports will receive goods and Iraqi goods and then transfer them to the Iraqi side through Aqaba, stressing that Iraq is a strategic partner in all fields. To increase the volume of trade exchange, and stimulate the private sector in both countries to establish joint investment projects and take advantage of the opportunities available.
He pointed out that the volume of handling between the two countries in the eighties exceeded 25 million tons of goods and services, and that the reopening of the crossing of Trebil will increase this number to fold with high readiness by the Jordanian ports and transport sector, and thus will revive the various economic sectors, stressing that the reopening of the crossing Will be a major boost to the national economy.
He pointed out that the reopening of the crossing will enhance the strategic relations between the two countries, which will positively affect the economy of both countries, especially that the meeting will discuss a number of economic, investment and trade axes, especially with regard to transport in all its forms.
Al-Shuraideh said that the ports of Aqaba are capable of handling fast, considering that their berths are prepared and dedicated to the size of international vessels in terms of queuing, submersible and modern tools used in unloading and loading operations, pointing to the demand of Jordanian ports from the local Jordanian market and the neighboring Arab markets. Of security and safety, and the existence of a package of incentives and privileges attractive to both exporters and importers inside and outside the Kingdom.
Al-Shuraideh said that the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, through its development arm, has been building its largest system of Jordanian ports with international standards and capabilities to serve the special economic zone requirements. Handling, shipping and transit operations.
Since July 2015, trade between Jordan and Iraq has been completely halted by the control of the Da’ash terrorist movement on the roads, which has hampered the flow of exchanges between the two countries.
The trade exchange between the two countries reached 915 million dinars during the year 2014 decreased to 533 and 353 million dinars in the years 2015 and 2016, respectively. Trabil is the only crossing that links the flow of commercial goods between Jordan and Iraq, while other outlets exist but are not intended for commercial operations.
The truck sector is one of the most important sectors affected by the closure of the border with Iraq. It has lost 200 million dinars over the last six years due to a series of closures. The losses were not limited to the truck sector only, but closed nearly 150 offices of clearance companies operating inside the center. Al Karama border.
The goods arrived in the Iraqi market after the closure of the Trebil crossing, through Saudi Arabia by land, then Kuwait and then Iraq, but there are problems in this way is the obligation of the Kuwaiti authorities trucks destined for Iraq through the transit transport coming from Jordan unloading loads on The Kuwaiti border, and re-transport by other cars to the Iraqi border, and then re-transported by a third Iraqi car to carry goods to the Iraqi interior, meaning that the goods are unloaded and loaded twice, which leads to damage, in addition to the high cost and sometimes the goods to delay on the Saudi border As well as the goods are transported to Iraq, the Jordanian port of Aqaba from the sea to the Iraqi port of Umm Qasr, through the port of Jebel Ali, the challenge in this way is being needs about 25 additional days, which loses the Jordanian competitiveness of the high cost of goods.
