The focus of the participants on the World Heritage Sites in Iraq , such as site Nimrud and Ashur (Eastern castle) and urban areas, as the participants will discuss a range of concerns major like putting museums and archaeological collections, and to prevent illicit trafficking in antiques, in addition, will address the sessions status quo of historic buildings and heritage religious requirements needed to maintain them. 
It is expected that the meeting concludes with the adoption of an urgent action plan to a group of conservation and protection of these sites projects, and will be shared with members of the «UNESCO» countries on this plan during the information meeting (on Friday) is dedicated to mobilize support for the implementation of these projects.

UNESCO Works to Safeguard Cultural Heritage in Post-IS Iraq 
 

LEEDS — The Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Irina Bokova opened a meeting for the safeguarding of cultural heritage in the liberated areas of Iraq on Thursday.

The meeting was attended by more than 80 experts from several different countries members of the United Nations (UN). Bokova opened the meeting by saying that the destruction of heritage is a war crime that seeks to eliminate all cultural diversity and freedom, in order to weaken the society. She added that the attacks on cultural heritage are attacks against human values and lives and must be prevented, Prensa Latina reported.

She explained that the ongoing battle in Iraq against the so-called Islamic State (IS) aims to establish peace in the region, but this is also a cultural battle, as it prioritizes the human values and lives. She further added that the values of culture must be at the center of the reconstruction efforts in in the liberated areas of Iraq.

The meeting which started on Monday will continue for two days until the 24th of February, and aims to examine the state of cultural heritage left in the recently liberated areas in Iraq, which includes points such as the ruins of the cities of Asur and Hatra, both declared by UNESCO as Patrimony of the Humanity and included in the list of Patrimony in danger.

Participants in the meeting are trying to discuss different ways for conservation of these places by identifying initiatives to protect the archaeological sites, monuments, religious places of urban heritage, museums and historical manuscripts, as well as finding different ways for preventing any actions of stealing and trafficking of cultural objects of great value.

Iraqi Museum Receives Stolen Antiquities
(Baghdad: Al Furat News) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs handed over a collection of Iraqi antiquities to the Iraqi Museum, which has been restored by the efforts of our diplomatic missions abroad.

MP Mason Damluji stressed the need to exchange cultures and strengthen relations between Iraq and the Mediterranean countries, especially Italy during its meeting with the Italian ambassador to Iraq on the sidelines of the exhibition, which was completed as a bilateral project between the Iraqi Museum in Baghdad and the University of Cavoscari in Venice, Over five thousand years, provided by the Italian artist Georgia Vioru through extensive studies of the sculpture by the artist in the Iraqi Museum.

The Ministry of Public Relations and Public Relations in the General Authority for Antiquities in the Ministry, Tahath Al-Mayahi special statement for the "morning": The Ministry and under the Law of Antiquities and Heritage No. 55 of 2002, Al-Rashid Street is one of the most important heritage sites in Baghdad, being characterized by its elegance and fame among the streets of the capital. 
The Rashid Street, which is over 100 years old, was opened by the Ottoman governor Khalil Pasha in 1916.
Al-Mayahi explained that the archaeological and engineering staff of the Heritage Department prepared the required data and documentation for the street, as an integrated heritage heritage, from the courtyard of the square in the main gate to Tahrir Square in Bab Al-Sharqi, including the shops overlooking the street: 114, 112, 110, 108, 106 and 104.  
For his part, the Rapporteur of the Preparatory Committee for the central celebration of the Baghdad Day and the centenary of Rashid Street, Heritage researcher Adel Al-Ardawi, a special statement for the "morning": The Secretariat of Baghdad has opened the UNESCO to include Al-Rashid Street on the list of world heritage similar to the marshes, which was included earlier in the year the past.

"For the first time since 1982, the Iraqi government, represented by the Ministry of Culture and the General Authority for Antiquities and Heritage, has succeeded in passing the technical committee of UNESCO, which specializes in the examination of World Heritage files," said Raad Allawi, head of the Babylon Group on the World Heritage List. 
Allawi added that "the committee approved the acceptance of the Babylon file technically and was referred to the advisory body of the UNESCO (Ikommos) to begin the process of negotiation and field evaluation to allow us to start the official registration of Babylon to be an international sites on the list of UNESCO."
