300,000 barrels well after some in depth investigation I found the suspects and they are in this photo...to fix it I think they should pick one hang one and then repeat until no more theft. I'm thinking no more than three hangings will be required.

Drunk_Viking64,  Yup I agree those darn Politicians have their hand in all of this corruption and it will continue until harsh punishments are given.  Firing Squad, Hanging, Cutting Hands Off, etc.   Please ensure the criminals get the message so others will think twice before committing the crime against the Iraqi people.

I believe that when they talk about stability they are referring to corruption as well. the more we see that more and more dinar is recovered that is more stability.

I would like to see punishment of these thefts but recovering dinar and giving it to the CBI is at least a start

I may be wrong, but international players likely also profit from this practice. In the recent past, this may be why UnaOil in Monaco and Mossack Fonseca in Panama were raided to find out who the culprits (pilfering rats) are in and out of Iraq. When the prosecution machine winds up in Iraq, there may be others associated with the same crimes prosecuted internationally.

Committee announced the parliamentary oil and energy, on Monday, its intention to investigate the issue of theft of crude oil through the ports of Basra province.

The Chairman of the Committee on Oil and Snap in the House of Representatives, the Ares Abdullah, in an interview with (long-Presse), "The Committee heard through media reports that spoke about the existence of quantities of crude oil stolen through the ports of Basra to the lack of meters of crude oil," noting that "the committee was investigating this matter."  

Abdullah added that "for the oil and gas committee sent a letter to the Oil Ministry to inquire about the subject of this issue will be discussed with the officials of the ministry in the coming days."

The Iraqi parliament oil and energy commission on Wednesday admitted the operations for organized crude oil theft via executive bodies in the current Iraqi government through the harbors of Basra in southern the country.

The commission's announcement is made as part of bids to unveil the financial and administration corruption that has been widely spread in the various Iraqi ministries and government institutions.

In press statements on Wednesday, Head of the Commission Areez Abdallah said the commission received confirmed information on massive theft operations of crude oil via Basra harbours, slamming the Iraqi government for not recording the raw oil production rates.

The commission has sent a letter to the Oil Ministry to explain facts about the issue as it is the body responsible for exporting of the Iraqi oil production.

Iraqi lawmaker for Basra governorate Sadek al-Mahna announced last week the smuggling of around 300,000 barrels of the Iraqi oil via Basra harbors. The smuggled oil is worth dlrs 20 million daily due to the inaccurate counters of the raw oil used by executive government bodies and current political coalitions.

 

Government officials are accused of taking a cut of the lucrative oil smuggling business run by clans and overseen by militia groups in the southern city of Basra.

Shiite groups have divided up control of the city's resources -- including the country's only seaport as well as its largest oilfields -- in a precarious power arrangement which could implode at any time. The warring militias control the illegal oil exports from Basra, the gateway to Iran and the Gulf states, and are reportedly linked to global networks.

Iraq's maritime police complain they lack resources to capture the smugglers, but others accuse police of cooperating with mafia gangs to smuggle oil. Some local officials said that they are under orders not to arrest gang members because of their links to the authorities and the militias.

Analysts blame smuggling for causing high inflation in Basra, Iraq's second largest city, with the prices of everyday products soaring and living conditions deteriorating for most of inhabitants.
