Thanks for a great USMC story !  :twothumbs:    And, yes, they throw one helluva party !  :lol:

One of us was assigned to a very 'important plane' at a very 'strategic' base in the Midwest years ago,

where a small contingency of these very special Patriots were also assigned.

For not being many, they threw a 4th of July Party that'll go down in history !

Gotta tell ya, this guest has eaten pig out of a hole in the ground in many places the world over...

but The U.S.M.C. does it better than anybody !  :drool:    It was awesome !   :woot:

Thanks for inviting me and for the great memory I still cherish ! :salute:

That just makes me so hard. Thanks for posting it.

I have a couple of stories for you and everyone here from a MARINE.

A United States Marine was attending some college courses between
assignments. He had completed missions in Iraq and Afghanistan . One of
the courses had a professor who was an avowed atheist, and a member of
the ACLU.

One day the professor shocked the class when he came in.
He looked to the ceiling and flatly stated, GOD if you are real then I
want you to knock me off this platform. I'll give you exactly
15 min.' The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop.
Ten minutes went by and the professor proclaimed, 'Here I am GOD, I'm
still waiting.'

It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Marine got out of
his chair, went up to the professor, and cold-cocked him; knocking him
off the platform. The professor was out cold.
The Marine went back to his seat and sat there, silently.

The other students were shocked and stunned, and sat there looking on in
silence. The professor eventually came to, noticeably shaken, looked at
the Marine and asked, 'What in the world is the matter with you? 'Why
did you do that?'

The Marine calmly replied, 'GOD was too busy today protecting America
's soldiers who are protecting your right to say stupid stuff and act
like an idiot. So He sent me.'

The classroom erupted in cheers!

And this one is my favorite that I first heard whilst in Hawaii training for combat.

And when he gets to heaven,
To St. Peter he will tell,
Another soldier reporting sir,
I've served my time in Hell.

And know this when you have trouble just call a Marine when it positively has to be destroyed overnight

Because, ONCE A MARINE ALWAYS A MARINE

From the Halls of Montezuma
 To the shores of Tripoli;
 We fight our country's battles
 In the air, on land, and sea;
 First to fight for right and freedom
 And to keep our honor clean;
 We are proud to claim the title
 Of United States Marine

 Our flag's unfurled to every breeze
 From dawn to setting sun;
 We have fought in every clime and place
 Where we could take a gun;
 In the snow of far-off Northern lands
 And in sunny tropic scenes,
 You will find us always on the job
 The United States Marines.

 Here's health to you and to our Corps
 Which we are proud to serve;
 In many a strife we've fought for life
 And never lost our nerve.
 If the Army and the Navy
 Ever look on Heaven's scenes,
 They will find the streets are guarded
 By United States Marines.

I can't hear this song without tears flowing.

I never served in a service but I feel what this song means.

As a husband and father I would like to think of my family as a band of people and worth fighting for and protecting.

Sorry, got to wipe up some water that somehow got on the key board.

Happy Birthday to the Marines. :bravo::salute::goodnews:

Please tend to a forgotten Hero's grave... several if you can,

visit with Veterans, talk with your kids about Honour & Service to God & Country,

I soooo know what you mean. I hear this song and find myself flooded with memories, some good and some very sorrowful. But all worth it. As a Marine I can tell you that I am in a constant war within myself. Battling with the things that I should do and that which my faith says I shouldn't. Believe me when I tell you that my war within me is EXACTLY why the Government is working so hard to take away a military person right to carry arms. Because they know full well that the greatest threat to their diabolical plans to," Fundamentally change America", into a communist dictatorship is a United States Marine. When,' and God forbid', they ever try to physically oppress the masses It will be men like me that give them an experience in HELL they'll not soon forget. But that is also why I'm so against fighting. Because most people have no idea what a highly trained Marine, and every other serviceman, is truly capable of.

If you really wanna know that, you can either serve, or ask Eagle Eye how it felt to be ready to annihilate hundreds of thousands , if not millions, of people with just the push of a button.

Just now, DIAMOND said:

Marines were original for navy aboard ship an were used an snipers shooting from the sail masts attached to leather collars, hence the name leathernecks

They wore those collars because at the time if an enemy ship was overrun{and that did happen often} the fighting was mostly with swords. And the neck was the most vulnerable part of the body, so the Marines would wear a thick leather collar to prevent their throats from being sliced.

Happy Birthday to my Brothers.

I never would and never will claim the title "Marine," but I've worn a high & tight; I've been been on the forced marches; I've worn out boots; I've slept in a hole in the ground; I even took my turn at carrying the base plate for the Ma Deuce and then got an a$$-chewing from the Captain - Lieutenant got his a$$-chewed because he didn't make me stop carrying the base plate; I've shared my C-Rats with them (aging myself) and they've shared theirs with me; they've welcomed into their bars; they've even walked around me in a protection detail after I made the (honest) mistake of trying to pick up the wrong chick in a bar and her boyfriend swung on me (he got his a$$ beat - poor guy); they've invited me to their birthday parties on November 10th; they've accepted me as one of them. I never would or never will claim the title "Marine" even if they would want me to. The just called me "Doc."

Happy Birthday, Marines!
