DoD
gymrat, Ramadan is not a holiday...Parliment is not off for Ramadan just like all the rest of the government isn't. Parliment is on their recess just like our Senate an Congress takes a break (recess)... The American Muslim is no different from an Iraqi Muslim except they use their 10:00am break an lunch to do their prayer. I agree with Shedagal that our God doesn't recognize Ramadan an neither do I but a very large percentage of the worlds population does. This is a relious time of the year NOT a holiday. The articles that yoda is posting tells you the GOI is still working an will call for an extraordinary session of Parliment to meet during Ramadan. The biggest difference between this Ramadan than those in the past is Maliki is no longer in charge....

King Bean
Nothing is ever clear in Iraq but my assessment is that on May 31st al-Jabouri sent Parliament into the one month Ramadan break, with no date set for return. Yes, there is potential for an emergency session. But let's be honest, their current situation country-wide IS AN EMERGENCY. Yet these idiots will find any and all reasons to sit on their hands, unless it's payday and their hands are out-stretched. And if they can't meet during a regular session, what makes anyone think they will all gather and hold hands for an "emergency" session. They were supposed to take a two month break starting May 1st so the 30-day extension was for May....in which they, of course, did nothing but talk and point fingers. Sad to say, we can HOPE for action from the CBI in June but we won't see anything from the GOI. And we may not for a long time. They all hate each other, how can we expect that they would work together for their country?? All IMO, of course.
