Head of Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization Saeed Ohadi said the decision is due to massive demonstrations in Baghdad on Saturday which inflicted a lot of damage.

The official said the current developments certainly caused problems for the flights carrying Iranian pilgrims to Baghdad so the Iranian airlines decided to stop flights to the Iraqi capital.

However, he assured the families of the Iranian pilgrims about the safety of their beloved ones in Baghdad.

Authorities are trying to solve the problem of some 300 Iranian pilgrims who are left stranded near Baghdad due to some security problems in the city.

Ohadi said he was trying to solve the issue
