Why does the American government not trade our expenses defending Iraq for oil?

 

If we spend 5 billion on their defense - we get that much oil in exchange! As things stand now, we are defending their country for free!

 

At $32.00 a barrel we can turn around and get our money back. That way America does not need such a large defense budget.

 

Maybe this makes too much common sense? :(

Common sense does not come into play when talking politics.....just take a look at our presidential candidates.....

I'm surprised Willie Nelson isnt running against Lance Armstrong or Caitlyn Jenner

While it is a pragmatic approach, I believe it would be construed as corrupt. We would be relying upon war for energy, and this is something that's happening in some ways but not so explicitly.

I don't think the mega oil companies would be too happy about the United States moving in on their territory. They just wanted defended and policed for our own form of exploitation

What we need to do is decouple our economy from oil and arms. So we can actually get on with saving the human race from extinction, versus blowing ourselves up
