Yukon Silvermoon
Today, I will not answer the radio call that your boyfriend has come home drunk and is beating you again. Today I will not answer the radio call that your 16 year old daughter, who is very responsible, is four hours late coming home from school. Today I will not answer the radio call that your store has been robbed or your house has been burglarized. Today I will not stop a drunk driver from killing someone. Today I will not catch a rapist or a murderer or a car thief. Today I will not answer the radio call that a man has a gun or tried to abduct a child or that someone has been stabbed or has been in a terrible accident. Today I will not save your child that you locked in a car or the child you were to busy to watch who went outside and fell into the swimming pool, but that I revived. No, today I will not do that. Why? Because Today I was killed by a drunk driver while I was helping push a disabled car off the highway. Today I was shot and killed during a routine traffic stop to simply tell someone that they had a taillight out. Today I was killed in a traffic accident rushing to help a citizen. Today I was shot and killed serving a warrant on a known drug dealer. Today I was killed by a man when I came by to do a welfare check because his family was to busy. Today I was killed trying to stop a bank robbery or a grocery store robbery. Today I was killed doing my job. A chaplain and an officer will go to a house and tell a mom and dad or a wife or husband or a child that their son or daughter or husband or wife or father or mother won’t be coming home today. The flags at many police stations were flown at half-mast today but most people won’t know why. There will be a funeral and my fellow officers will come, a twenty-one-gun salute will be given, and taps will be played as I am laid to rest. My name will be put on a plaque, on a wall, in a building, in a city somewhere. A folded flag will be placed on a mantel or a bookcase in a home somewhere and a family will mourn. There will be no cries for justice. There will be no riots in the streets. There will be no officers marching, screaming “no justice, no peace.” No citizens will scream that something must be done. No windows will be smashed, no cars burned, no stones thrown, no names called. Only someone crying themselves to sleep tonight will be the only sign that I was cared about. I was a police officer.

securityguy
Thanks for bringing these numbers out so clearly. Most of us do not realize how many officers loose their lives doing their job.
SocalDinar
I am pretty sure that here in CA the Work Comp System only pays out 110K for dieing on the job. So sad. Load Up. Work comp is CA is covered by private insurance companies . Even State Fund is a private company. I have a 1 million dollar policy which is the minimum most of my customers will except. There is no state run system it's sad that people die. And many cops do actually serve the community. But I know many cops that just consider it a job. They are counting the days till they can retire and then go get another job. To these officers ( friends of mine ) it's just a job and they are paid well. $100,000 a year plus overtime and all kind of special pay. They are there to serve the public but more than that they are there to serve themselves.. They pick and choose the laws they enforce . They have a do as I say not as I do mentality.. I have another cop friend that's been on work comp for 6 months for a sprained wrist. Hurt it while exercising at work! Lots of people have dangerous jobs. And every one of them deserve the same respect as any cop gets. So next time you plug in that toaster think about the lineman who gave his life so you could eat toast . Next time you go to Walmart to buy a dvd think about that truck driver who died in that crash so you could watch a movie. Next time you walk your kids to school think of that contractor who died building that school. Everyone contributes to our society. Not just cops. And every life matters. Never seen a memorial freeway for that poor roofer who fell to his death so we could stay dry. Lots of people have dangerous jobs. RV ME
Lots of people have dangerous jobs. I Didn’t neg you, but most certainly disagree with you. Yes, there are many dangerous jobs, but the difference to me is that I do not recall an instance of a logger cutting down a tree and being shot by another tree. The roofer fell off the roof, he was not thrown off the roof by a shingle. The lineman touched the wrong wire, the wire did not assault him while he was trying to do his job. I am not trying to diminish anyone who died in an accident, but I do not equate an accidental death, usually caused by carelessness, to being purposely killed by another person while just doing your job.
sxsess
Yes and we have a socalled president that supports thuggery. He just signed an executive order where applicants to federal jobs do not have to list their criminal past. Our socalled president is a thug and a coward that does not support our police & military.

Yes I guess you are right, RV me and i meant no disrespect Its just that i know so many dirty cops. I did a spell in jail for drunk driving in my youth 30 years ago and watched Sheriffs continuously beat inmates ( petty criminals mostly DUI and drug convictions ) I'm talking beating them unconscious sometimes. You see that and you get a differnt feeling towards the police. I saw it with my own eyes daily. Heck you can watch the show cops and you will see cops breaking the law all the time. Illegal searches, over reacting and using excessive force. I went to school with many cops in town and i know they are racist. They tell me how they profile blacks and Mexicans. How they do illegal searches all the time. I am close friends with the last three police chiefs here. I have heard their stories. I know that they pick and choose what they enforce. I know they think its OK for them to park where they want to.I know they think they do not have to obey traffic laws. I just don't agree with or think we need to put up with fascism. I watched the city manager give the last chief a 40,000 raise to stay one more year ( they are good friends ) The new chief was there and could have been promoted That $40,000 will cost our city an extra $36,000 per year. His final pay was $465,000 per year and he will get 90 % of that for life. Thats $418,500.00 for LIFE Hes only 52 years old. His wife bragged to me about it how they were cashing in!! How about dragging drug sniffing dogs through the classrooms at JR high school? My daughter fears the police and has told me she would never call them. She saw a classmate dragged from class and thrown on the ground in front of evreyone because he had a joint. . Thats just wrong. They are not judge and jury. With all that said I apologize and do know that there are many good cops around, I guess I've been jaded by seeing so much of the bad cops. SnowGlobe7
He I get that...my ex was the definition of a bad cop...brought home drugs in the back of his car to only do ? with, bragging about breaking the law....and much much worse. But I did get to see just what the good cops have to put up with...not only the bad guys out there...but from within as well. I am just glad there are good ones out there
pattyangel
Like I always say, there are bad apples out there. But I truly believe there are more good. If all were bad, we would be in a lawless land. Sorry to hear of your jaded experience with the bad cops, hope you can give credit where credit is due when need be.
