Riyadh, Asharq Al-Awsat—Saudi Arabia’s embassy in Iraq will open after the Muslim Eid Al-Adha holiday on September 23, according to informed diplomatic sources, and will mark the resumption of full diplomatic ties between both countries for the first time in 25 years.

The sources said that the Iraqi authorities provided facilities for members of the Saudi diplomatic mission that will work there after the ending the visa procedures to Iraq, pointing out that their number is more than 40 people in all diplomatic and security sections of the Embassy.

The sources said that there is a positive interest in dealing with the acceleration of opening the Saudi embassy in Baghdad, and was welcomed by political and social elites in Iraq, after a quarter-century of diplomatic estrangement, stressing that the Saudi political action in Iraq will be after Eid al-Adha.

The sources pointed out that the Saudi consulate in Erbil will work after opening the embassy in Baghdad shortly.
