Manhunt under way for suspect who killed reporter Alison Parker, 24, cameraman Adam Ward, 27, on scene of live TV news segment

A manhunt is under way after a gunman killed two members of a news crew and injured a third person in Moneta, Virginia, in a shooting that took place during a live TV broadcast on Wednesday morning.

Virginia’s governor, Terry McAuliffe, announced “an active pursuit” of the gunman was under way and said that police believed the suspect was a “disgruntled employee” from the station.

However, he later back-pedalled on claims that an arrest was “imminent”.

The shooting occurred around 6.45am ET, when a news crew from WDBJ7 local news was conducting a live broadcast about local tourism at at the Bridgewater Plaza, near Smith Mountain Lake.

They were interviewing a local Vicki Gardner, a representative from the local chamber of commerce, when up to eight shots rang out. Screams followed as the camera fell to the ground.

The station later announced that two of their team, reporter Alison Parker, 24, and cameraman Adam Ward, 27, had been shot dead. Gardner, who was also shot, is undergoing surgery in hospital.

The scene was broadcast live to residents Roanoke, where the TV station is based, as well as those living in nearby towns in rural Virginia.

The live broadcast was cut off shortly after the sound of shots and screaming. Producers switched back to the WDBJ7 local studio, where a shocked anchor was staring at the camera.

Police were aided by images of the gunman that were captured moments after Ward was fatally shot and fell to the ground. They show a man dressed in black, apparently holding a gun pointed directly at the cameraman.

Shortly after 10am, McAuliffe, who had been in communication with Virginia’s state police, said law enforcement were close to apprehending the suspect. He said the gunman, who had called a friend shortly after the shooting, was believed to be on the I-64 highway.

“They are in pursuit as we speak,” McAuliffe told WTOP local radio. “Probably by the time we finish this interview we will have caught the suspect.”

Close to an hour later, the suspect was still at large. McAuliffe told the same radio station that the suspect was armed and dangerous, but appeared to back-pedal on the suggestion police were in close pursuit. He said only that police had the suspect’s name and car license plate. “Obviously, they want to take him peacefully,” he said.

“Today was just like any other day,” anchor Kim McBroom said on the station’s morning broadcast. “They did great work every day and put their all into everything they did.

“They were special people. They would lighten up a room.”

With crying on the set of the studio audible, another anchor, Jean Jadhon, described Parker as “a rock star. She was a professional, so much fun and so kind.”

Jeff Marks, the station’s general manager, recounted what police had told the station. “Someone with a gun, we believe it was a man, barged into where they were and fired several shots, six or seven, it sounded like. We heard screaming, and then we heard nothing, the camera fell.

“The scene was described to us as chaos.”

He expressed disbelief at the shooting: “How can this individual have robbed these families of Adam and Alison of their happiness and their love, for whatever reason.”

Parker originally joined the station as an intern, and had graduated from James Madison University in 2012. According to her profile on the site, she enjoyed kayaking and local theater.

Ward was described as a gregarious, hardworking photojournalist, an avid fan of Virginia Tech and longtime employee of the station. He was engaged to Melissa Ott, a producer on the station who was celebrating her last day on Wednesday before going to a new job in Charlotte. He had planned to join her there and find a new job with her.

Parker had recently celebrated a birthday and was dating WDBJ7 reporter Chris Hurst.

Hurst tweeted on Wednesday morning that although “we didn’t share this publicly” he and Parker “were very much in love. We just moved in together. I am numb.

“She was the most radiant woman I ever met. And for some reason she loved me back. She loved her family, her parents and her brother. We were together almost nine months. It was the best nine months of our lives. We wanted to get married.”

McAuliffe tweeted that he was “heartbroken” over the two deaths.

Franklin County police did not immediately respond to questions.

The station chief said the news team would hold a memorial on Wednesday afternoon.

Police have not described the extent of the third victim’s injuries.

Schools in the area have been locked down until further notice, the Bedford County superintendent announced.

Disgruntled ex-co-worker with history of grudges & lawsuits against his 'white' employers decided to

execute these two wonderful people and injure a third.

His sense of entitlement  caused many former co-workers to say he was a real a-hole to work with.

This COWARD belongs in the hell he created for himself.

ALL LIVES MATTER.

Problem with this pompous murderer is that he had a sense of entitlement that

caused him to believe HIS  life mattered more than anyone else's !

BTW: Same exact syndrome BLACK LIVES MATTER suffers from !   <_<

The latest is the suspect was caught by police and the coward shot himself...last I heard just minutes ago was he was still alive but in critical condition! Sad, sad...and watch...the media will blame guns...not the crazy fool wielding the gun! He could have killed them with a bat or knife just as easily!

You stand to be corrected - HE MADE IT ABOUT RACE !

He used to be here in our Florida market and screamed "racism" every time somebody turned around !

He used his race to torture co-workers,

make the work environment HOSTILE and

whipped out lawsuits saying the world was against him because of his colour !

HE WAS A RACIST !

Sorry Trinity, Sarge's gals are correct.  According to the POS killer himself, this was about nothing but race.  In his own words what set him off was the Charleston church shootings and he stated “You (deleted)! You want a race war (deleted)? BRING IT THEN YOU WHITE …(deleted)!!!”

http://abcnews.go.com/US/shooting-alleged-gunman-details-grievances-suicide-notes/story?id=33336339

Like the gals said he claimed racial discrimination and sexual harassment at work.  He went on to claim he was “attacked by black men and white women” apparently for being a *** black man, so I guess you can say he had a lot of problems in his life.  But he did not go out and shoot any mean black men who had attacked him in the past.  He stalked, shot and killed a white woman and white cameraman (also tried to kill the white interviewee who had nothing to do with anything other than being a white person in the wrong place at the wrong time).

So you can be grieving for the victims, but at the same time you can still admit this was a racist hate crime no different than the Church shooting the POS blamed for his actions.

And just to emphasize the point,

Leviticus 19:18

"'Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD.

Matthew 5:44
But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

John 15:12
My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.

John 15:17
This is my command: Love each other.

Romans 12:10
Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.

Romans 13:8
Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.

Romans 13:10
Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

Galatians 5:14
For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: "Love your neighbor as yourself."

Ephesians 5:2
and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

1 Thessalonians 4:9
Now about your love for one another we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other.

Hebrews 13:1
Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters.

1 Peter 1:22
Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other,   love one another deeply,   from the heart.

1 John 2:7
Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard.

1 John 2:8
Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining.

1 John 3:11
For this is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another.

1 John 3:23
And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.

1 John 4:7
Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.

1 John 4:10
This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

1 John 4:21
And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.

2 John 1:5
And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another.

I think trinity just was not getting the news that we were about his history and accusing everyone in his wake of racism that we were getting, and thought we were accusing without a reason Remember trinity is across the pond and does not get the same news we do

Just my Opinion

STOP!

 John 13:34

A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also

love one another.

Agreed.. that'd be awesome... Not so easy though due to a lot of things....Working on it nonetheless....Tough task but certainly worth trying....

hey everyone i want to offer an apology for reacting so quickly to SGT's post.  i should have let my emotions die down a bit before posting.  i had just watched the live shooting on youtube and my heart just couldn't take what i was seeing.  the last thing i wanted to read was anything dealing with "whose lives matter".  if anything, i thought the first postings going up about this should have been sentiment for the bereaved.  instead it appeared that we would start another race debate thread.

what happened to those two people yesterday really broke my heart and for some reason i took it hard.  and it is clearly evident that the suicidal maniac who did the crime was mentally unstable.  in my opinion, his rage had nothing to do about race but he used it as a 2nd hand reason since the topic is so hot.  typical true racists show a history of hate mongering and almost like a religion.  this guy, from what i have seen so far, shows the signs of mental instability and a distance from reality.

my love and prayers to the families enduring this trauma.  and Lord please "deliver us from evil."

Trinity... thanks for stepping back and taking another look.  This guy was certainly suffering from a weak mind, a disturbed mind, possibly bordering on mental illness/paranoia.  Unfortunately, such a weakness and detriment is all too subject to suggestion, perception, and evil.  His "reality" is a common ill in today's media-plagued society.

I know exactly what you mean, and I wasn't directing my comments at anyone. I just felt

the Lord strongly put it in my heart that we react to this tragedy as the church did in North

Carolina. We must at all cost not give the devil what he wants.

There is mental illness, something I know well, and then there is demonic possession.

As I watched the assailant point the weapon and not fire I knew that while he may have

had mental issues, what he was suffering from that day was clearly demonic influence.

If not possession. The sadist part of this is that these events will wax worse and worse as

we all progress towards the second coming. And they are just, "the beginning of sorrows".

We're going to take that as somewhat of an apology.

i should have let my emotions die down a bit before posting.  i had just watched the live shooting on youtube and my heart just couldn't take what i was seeing.  the last thing i wanted to read was anything dealing with "whose lives matter".

It's front and center and responsible for MORE division and hate these days thanks to an agenda being pushed "FORWARD" by a hater POTUS.

ARTITECH is right about THAT !

if anything, i thought the first postings going up about this should have been sentiment for the bereaved.  instead it appeared that we would start another race debate thread.

Inferring we had/have no sentiment for the victims is absurd.

NOT a secondary reason for this fellow.  He had been an arrogant agitator for decades.

typical true racists show a history of hate mongering and almost like a religion.  this guy, from what i have seen so far, shows the signs of mental instability and a distance from reality.

Again, this was nothing new for him.  He had photos of himself, Glamour shots and Press Release photos of himself plastered all over his apartment.

HE EVEN MURDERED HIS OWN CATS! Loving animals with NO defence !

Poor Cats that had to live in his spartan apartment surrounded by candles, porn and disgusting sex aids!

He was arrogant, self-serving, caustic, acerbic, hateful... and eventually spiteful.

You must understand that being a narcicist is one thing -- allowing it to fester for DECADES, consume him --

and eventually turn him into a psychotic killer was the inevitable result.

HE DID LITTLE TO HELP HIMSELF EVEN THOUGH THE HELP WAS MADE AVAILABLE TO HIM.

HIS HATE MADE HIM THAT WAY.  HE WAS A HATEFUL, EVENTUALLY SPITEFUL RACIST.  PERIOD.

my love and prayers to the families enduring this trauma.  and Lord please "deliver us from evil."

His evil began when he decided he was superior and did not seek humility and grace through Christ.

Like I have said before there are a lot of truths in life and Trinitye I did not know where you were coming from before and now that I do, I want you to know that each one of us has a breaking point. I will say... the lack of emotion absolutely stuns me with these people, as well as what we've seen in some of these other tragedies.

If it happened to someone I loved, I would be so distraught and angry... there would be no way I could face the public (worldwide, none the less!) a day later!  Maybe not even a week later!

Love all

Serve all

Ever help

Never hurt

Love is the answer.!

After watching how this tread turned out I now understand why the Holy Spirit

moved me to respond the way that I did. And you, my brother, are correct; Love conquers all.

Sgt. my hat is off to you please include me on your friends list ! And I'm not laughing because I know that you are real !

 Imagine how I feel. I started out about five yrs ago just asking God to,

"HELP ME", nothing more or less. Slowly I began to notice little changes in how

I responded to others. Then as time moved on I began to hear that,"still small voice", of the

Holy Spirit. Today I am no longer the same man that I once was, and I find it strange sometimes

how that my Lord has taken an obtuse trucker and changed him into something I

never thought I could be.

One thing is certain, I pray that everyone would just give it a try. That everyone would simply ask

God to, Help them, once everyday. You wont believe what will happen. And now all I want is to

get closer to my Lord more and more, because this is AWESOME.  :bravo:
