In so many instances of "global nation building"(??) the USA has supported individuals who "showed another face" or became our enemy.  Power is a dynamic drug that distorts the reason and judgment of those who would be king.  Maliki, from the beginning showed signs of corruption and a demonstrated a leadership that only promoted Maliki.  The USA officials desiring to fill a void in Iraq choose a "yes" man who was corrupt and spoke boldly.  He was "corrupt" enough to line his pockets with US funds, and then he turned.  

American politics seems to find those they can "buy" to become their "choice" of individual they can "trust to do what they tell them," to be appointed leaders.  They should be seeking those who CAN NOT be bought, who will stand on principles of integrity, who seek to serve all the people.  But often those individuals cannot be manipulated and controlled because of their integrity.  

Power only corrupts those who are moving toward corruption.  

Don't you think we, the people, need to watch that tendency in our own leaders?  (Rhetorical)

America has shown ( mainly with this administration ) that it is uncapable of running it's own country, which is no surprise that it can't run another. These third world countries love the new USA weakness in all areas, just keep sending us the money....
