And yet as they are awarded the Purple Heart, they are denied all the benefits that comes with the recognition. For example, medical benefits. Its not a win in my book. Until they are awarded the Purple Heart and subsequent benefits, a medal is just a shiny thing at the end of a ribbon. When full benefits come with that medal then and only then can we say they have been awarded the Purple Heart. The Purple Heart is for injuries sustained during a war. It also allows the recipient to get benefits to treat those injuries after the soldier has left their tour of duty. To be awarded a Purple Heart and not receive benefits that come along with it is like saying here is your trophy for participating. The medical benefits were the reason the families were fighting to get the designation from this incident turned from "workplace violence" to an "act of terrorism". Without the medical benefits awarded to the soldiers, the medal is useless.

I have a friend that was a POW in WW2. He showed me a couple injuries such as a baonett stab wound and was torchered and was told  a Purple heart while for active war. He tryed to escape a couple times but was eventually cought. Evidentaly while being held captive you are no longer in active war. They told him to recieve back pay he would have to sign papers enabling the government to pay the germans for food and housing he received. He would not do it. He never received any of his metals he earned until about 30 years later.

Thanks Nam69...Every child of these victim should be awarded a full scholarship....The spouses of each victim should become the responsibility of the USA to make sure their needs are met...Every care of the deceased dependents should be addressed with gratitude for the price these Heroes laid down their lives for...Con. Allen West said it best...''This nation can't show enough gratitude for the sacrifice these warriors gave in the face of our basic beliefs''....

It's amazing that these people are denied regular benefits from their wounds received on a military base.  How can Obama do that? These people are still fighting for all of us, and they were shot by an enemy, which should be enough.  I vote that we stop giving money to some of our real enemies, those Kerry has been trying unsuccessfully to negotiate with in Iran, for example, and give our own wounded warriors what they deserve.
