May 20, 2010 · Posted in another site's Tidbite - NEWS

Baghdad (NINA) – American forces in Iraq decided to open banks in ten American bases through out Iraq to provide services to civilian contractors working inside the bases.

Liaison officer with Finance Department at the Financial Operations Office, Captain Andria Singer, said that the initiative to open banks inside bases will become to deal with Iraqi Dinars instead of US Dollar, to strengthen Iraq’s economy.

She added that the bank will not only provide work opportunities, but it will also increase confidence in the Iraqi currency as well as Iraqi banks.

A statement by the American Army said that first bank will be opened at Victory Base, near Baghdad International Airport, which is a branch of Bank of Baghdad, which has been approved by the US Department of Treasury, to deposit American government and firms’ funds in it to finance American forces in Iraq.

The statement said that by the end of the year, Iraqi banks will start operating in American bases through out Iraq.

Why do we need Banks on American bases, if the troops are pulling out by end of August? I understand the importance of helping Iraq with it's economy, so why not just use their banks until we pull out. Can't the troops go off base to do business with the local people. Wouldn't this show more support and encourge better relations with the Iraqi people.

It is my understanding that the troop level will still be at about 50,000 at the end of August and will remain at that level for a year or so. There will always be a American troops here in the future. But at a much reduced level.

As far as going off base for financial services it is still too dangerous for that, at least for us contractors. We still run convoys with military escorts for protection. How many troops and bases remain in the future is OPSEC information and I couldn't say it even if I knew it. But it sure is a good sign to open banks on these bases. JMHO ~~~~~ Bluto

Thanks Bluto. The answer you gave is spot on and insightful. The US is going to be in Iraq for a long time and that's a fact. Keep your head down and be careful. I want you to get that divorce you so badly want.;)

It's only COMBAT forces that are required to leave.Does anyone seriously think that the US built the LARGEST embassy in the WORLD in Iraq, and 5 PERMANENT bases,to just simply pull up and leave.A'INT gonna happen----look at Japan,Germany,S.Korea,-we have been in these places 50-65 YEARS------and it will be the same in Iraq. We will need to be there to protect both Iraq, and Israel.Of course,we will have to get that anti-american that is masquerating as president OUT OF OFFICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
