The Day Israel Attacked America

Recommended Posts

This touches a little more on what happened afterwards Chess...

"The actions of the Israeli government in the aftermath of the attack are further evidence of an intentional attack. Israel held only a limited investigation of the events of June 8, 1967. The Israeli court of inquiry exonerated the participants of the attack as well as the Israeli government itself. Historian James Bamford explained that none of the Israeli servicemen who participated in the attack were ever "court-martialed, reduced in rank, or even reprimanded."[46] Even more telling is the fact that the boat which fired the torpedo that devastated the Liberty, Motor Torpedo Boat 203, has actually been honored.[47] Bamford explained the wheel and bell of the ship have been exhibited "prominently" at the Israeli naval museum, "among the maritime artifacts of which the Israeli navy was most proud."[48] The contrast with the fate of the Liberty -- which was sold for scrap without benefit of any governmental honoring of artifacts -- is striking.[49]

The flying flag, the duration of the attack, the delayed assistance of Israeli forces, machine gunning the life rafts, and the offered excuse that the Liberty was misidentified as the El Quseir all support the idea of an attack that was not planned in advance, but was nevertheless intentional. The purpose behind the Israeli attack might never be known. Some believe it resulted from information the Liberty had collected regarding who had begun the war.[50] Other observers, such as University of Southern California Political Science Professor Richard Dekmejian, believe, "the collapse of the Arabs was so rapid, that the Israelis decided midway into the battle to go all the way. And the Americans didn't want them to and therefore it made sense for them to blind the USS Liberty."[51] Still others believe that the Liberty was intentionally attacked to "cover up a massacre of Egyptian prisoners of war."[52] It seems there are several reasons why the Israeli government might have been uncomfortable with the existence or location of the USS Liberty. The political climate of the time was one of confusion, as is generally the case in the height of war. The Israeli government may have winked to junior Israeli officers that attacking the Liberty would not have been frowned upon. It may be that those involved believed that, if the Liberty sank, the attackers would never be identified and Egypt could even be blamed. Or perhaps military officers inferred from the uneasiness of government officials that such an attack would be beneficial to the Israeli cause. Whichever the case may be, the fact that the Israeli servicemen involved in the attack were honored rather than reprimanded supports the notion of under-the-table approval of the Liberty attack."

Seems like too many reasons offered for the attack.  There is NO main rational focus.  Lots of conspiratorial guesses.......... :twocents:

As I said Chess that won't be known without an honest investigation and disclosure...The... WHY???

That does not change the facts and the irrefutable evidence that has come out... The attack was deliberate.

Let us look at a similar (very roughly) situation,.. in Iraq a British patrol was carrying out a normal ground patrol, they were spotted by 2 A10 tankbusters , which despite them having clear visibility, the ground vehicles being clearly marked (Allied markings), Union Jack flags flying, they carried out a strike and destroyed vehicles and killed troops within these vehicles.

Just as a comparison, how much was shown on American media, how much responsibility has been accepted by the US, at least the Israeli gov. paid an amount to the USA, but take note... anyone who has served and has had to give co-ordinates for fire missions, mortars, artillery, or aircraft ground attacks, has known that fear of that minute mistake, a decimal point, Latt/Long grid ref. a fraction out... humans make mistakes.. transcript from pilots radio, "ohh god man we are screwed, that is murder, oohhh god", do we accuse, do we blame, for a while (we are human), but then military humour kicks in, (hard to believe but true), and after that we file it away, we don't forget, we learn, we adapt the way we teach those who follow us to try to avoid the same thing happening again, we still send our sons and daughters to serve beside your youth in battles worldwide, and we wait and pray that the instructions and the months of teaching them how and when to apply these skills prevents them from ever having to feel like those pilots no doubt did.. and perhaps still do now and then.

Was it OB1kenobe that warned Luke about the "Dark Side" Maggie ? Conspiracy is the dark side Maggie , don't let it consume you.  Cheers Dave.

This is interesting...

This is an article that has been referenced as the only article released at the time that questioned the attack.

I believe it has been referenced as coming from an off the record statement by Pres. Johnson.

The references below are also very interesting... one of them is the "apology" that came from Israel right after the attack.

Sinking the Liberty: Accident or Design?

The Israeli attack on the naval communications ship U.S.S. Liberty has left a wake of bitterness and political charges of the most serious sort. First of all, the Liberty was no ordinary vessel but an intelligence-gathering ship on a "ferret" mission. It carried elaborate gear to locate both Israeli and Egyptian radio and radar and to monitor and tap all military messages sent from command posts to the battlefield. Although Israel's apologies were officially accepted, some high Washington officials believe the Israelis knew the Liberty's capabilities and suspect that the attack might not have been accidental. One top-level theory holds that someone in the Israeli armed forces ordered the Liberty sunk because he suspected it had taken down messages showing that Israel started the fighting. (A Pentagon official has already tried to shoot down the Israeli claim of "pilot error.") Not everyone in Washington is buying this theory, but some top Administration officials will not be satisfied until fuller and convincing explanations of the attack on a clearly marked ship in international waters are forthcoming.

Unless I have gone completely blind; I think there would be a LOT of difference visually from an American military ship (USS LIBERTY) and that of an EGYPTIAN ship. I really do not think that the flag or flags flying from them would even come close to looking the same.  I don't buy the story about them making a MISTAKE in bombing our ship.    Whoever did it should be made to pay for it and not in dollars alone IMO.

If Israel is responisible they must compensate the families. However I feel you would like war with Israel and have them wiped off the face of the map

Isreal admitted this right after it happened

No need to investigate they admit they did it and compensated the family's of those killed and compensated the U.S. govt for the ship

They apologized and there's nothing more that's going to be done on the matter

Just like when friendly fire happens with our military

Nothing they can do about it now

Some people spend their lives trying to tear down isreal and pump the Muslims

Maggie is one of them
