Chicagoans demand justice for victims of police crimes and torture

The Chicago Sun-Times announced Sept. 4, that U.S. Attorney Zachary Fardon and FBI Special Agent Robert Holley have stated that there is no "sweeping investigation of shootings by Chicago police officers."

This statement by the Feds was released a week after an attorney, representing the police, wrote to the Fraternal Order of Police warning that an FBI probe of the CPD was in the making.

Not only has the U.S. Attorney and the FBI denied the existence of a "sweeping investigation," they basically rule out the need for any. Fardon and Holley issued this rather shocking statement: "As Acting Assistant Attorney General Molly Moran stated today, there is no open pattern-and-practice civil rights investigation of the Chicago Police Department."

On September 3, the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression presented to U.S. Attorney Fardon a complaint letter addressed to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, signed by 65 victims of police crimes of murder and torture.

This letter documents that there is in fact an "open pattern-and-practice of civil rights violations and crimes perpetrated by the Chicago Police Department.

Emmett Farmer, the father of Flint Farmer (who was murdered by a police officer while lying defenseless on the ground) was among the signers of the letter. Yet within 48 hours after it was presented, we witness this shameless arrogance by representatives of the U.S. Department of Justice.

We live in a city that is infamous for police torturing hundreds of innocent, young Black and Latino people, most of who remain incarcerated, and where too many parents are still grief-stricken because their children were murdered by the police.

So why on earth in these circumstances would the U.S. Attorney and the FBI rush to a news conference to assure us that they are not investigating a pattern of civil rights violations and crimes committed by the Chicago Police Department?

This is unacceptable. This is an insult to the people of Chicago, to the victims and their families and to the numerous investigating reporters who have demonstrated an open pattern-and-practice of civil rights violations and police crimes.

We, like the people of Ferguson, Missouri, are demanding a federal investigation and justice for all victims of police crimes.

Frank Chapman is Education Director and member of the executive committee of the Chicago Alliance Against Racial and Political Oppression.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/07/01/chicago-homicide-rate-2014_n_5548976.html

"According to the police, Chicago had 172 homicides through June 30 — nine fewer than the same period last year and 82 fewer than during the first six months of 2012. After the city recorded a total of 415 homicides last year, the six-month total puts Chicago within striking distance of recording fewer than 400 homicides for the year for the first time since 1965."

Over 400 hundred homicides a year since 1965 in a city with the strictest gun control laws in the U.S.  That's over 19,200 homicides...

There is no excuse for Police brutality; however, in that environment one can understand how officers MIGHT be just a little on edge.  Perhaps Mr. Chapman's community action group's time would be best served seeking justice for the over 19,200 murder victims and how to prevent another 40 this month, and the next, and the next, and the... :twocents:

Ya know, it isn't about race.

It's about money.

There's been a class war going on for a very long time.

But why is it, the ACLU is only concerned about blacks and Hispanics?

Why are the rest of us tired of this same old rhetoric?

Because it's all about promoting more racism.

Why can't they be honest?

Because then they would also have to admit, "they" are the racists.

And then, no more free ride, no more picked on headlines, no more special treatment.

Just what the heck would Jackson or Sharpton do if they had to get a real job?

They'd go on welfare, because no one would ever hire those two hate mongers to do anything but stir more unrest.

"We, like the people of Ferguson".. that's rich, because the people of Ferguson took a dump on themselves.

They convinced themselves they were so righteous, they were justified ion destroying other innocent humans property.

They didn't think twice about harming people that were of a different color.

Why?

Because the "people of Ferguson" have no honor.

If that's how the people of Chicago are, we just have to leave them alone for a couple days and they will go back to murdering and victimizing each other again.

People like that deserve no respect, and while they may get a picture in the paper, it only gives those with honor something to laugh at.
