Southern state's sweeping new gun laws allows for weapons in bars, schools, churches and parts of airports

By Raf Sanchez, Kennesaw, Georgia

6:00AM BST 07 Jul 2014

It’s nearly midnight at the Electric Cowboy, a factory-sized dance club off the motorway. Inside, patrons are downing $4 margaritas and singing Western-themed karaoke. Outside, in the dark car park shared with a neighbouring Hooters, two gun owners are debating whether it’s ever a good idea to allow firearms into a bar.

“I don’t think deadly weapons should be mixed with alcohol,” says Justin Gillis, a hulking man in a black cowboy hat who keeps a gun in his car....

The whole country stood and clapped. When Georgia passed the law. There is a lot of mute points trying to be made here. Some would say why should my Constutitional rights stop in a specific building. Then there is those that think only the gobberment should have a defensive weapon.

Me I say take it to the shower with you, you never know when a bad guy will rear his ugly head and need an attitude adjustment!   :twocents:

The confrontation is a small example of the Wild West-like anarchy that gun control advocates fear will inevitably follow the relaxed weapons rules.

“No one got shot but

There it is, everything this article is about.

Fear,

The control freaks are just that, control freaks.

They fear everything, they fear anyone that stands up for themselves, and so want to destroy any independence in order to oppress us even more.

You are welcome to sit in a corner of your house and quiver in fear, that is your choice.

I chose life.

I think everyone should carry a piece anytime they are in public.

Bet you anything it will drastically reduce all violent crimes, make life safer, and if we are lucky, save the expense of having to pay for long prison sentences for a few idiots that are too stupid to respect other humans rights.

If a large man is seen beating up a woman during a high energy adrenaline pumped event, most people wont step in, unless they have a chance of not getting their heads beat in too.

A .45 is a PERFECT equalizer.

Maybe, the angry guy will even be carrying, then the second he tries to throw down he will get 195gr between the eyes.

We need a little wild west stuff going on, need to thin out the gene pool a bit, there's too many cowards, control freaks, and violent jerks running around....

Thin out the gene pool? That's what the Nazi's were trying to do...and that is scary to me...I'm sorry but the fact that everyone is walking around carrying guns and some of those people might be mentally disturbed or drunk scares the hell out of me. I have seen quite a few people lose their marbles over a few drinks and hit people, get into fights, and become unglued.  Imagining them with a gun? Yes, that scares me...about as much as you wanting to "thin out the gene pool".

I appreciate the desire to protect oneself, but there must be an alternative that respects rights and also protects the innocent...I am not sure this is it.

We have so many mentally ill people in this country, drug addicts and criminals, children, teens who watch too many violent movies and play violent games who have hormones raging making them angry at everyone, desperate people...allowing them to carry fire arms without checking their history, age or having an appropriate system to lock them up is something that needs to be a part of the equation - so there is a lot of contrary approaches which conflict....Our right to bear arms and the need to check a psycho or criminal before selling them a fire arm should go hand in hand... I am pretty shocked at the story above about the guy who was shot in a restaurant, and yes people need to stop men from beating up women...I just wish this whole thing would not escalate into a power struggle around weapons. I have shot rifles at targets, but carrying a gun scares the hell out of me.

I just don't know what the answers are...but this conflict and solution to arm everyone seems like we are headed into a powder keg with a lit match.

Guns in bars.... what could go wrong?

my point exactly...

While I understand your point, and agree, just add a little alcohol to some people and you get instant butthead, chances of survival are increased exponentially if you are armed as well.

The criminals carry guns right now, everywhere they go.

I'm sure it scares the heck out of you to think about that, but it don't change the truth.

By restricting carry, the ONLY people you are hurting IS YOURSELF!!!!

The 2nd Amendment isn't about having a gun in a freaking bar anyway.

If you are not sure why it was written, you may want to read up on it.

While I don't have an answer to the bar issue, just because a bunch of guys getting drunk with guns doesn't sound like a very safe environment to me either, infringing on the 2nd isnt  constitutionally legal either.

As a fireman, I had a superbowl party at my house, all my friends were either cops or firemen, we got drunk, and would up going into the back yard and shooting targets.

No one killed anyone, no one misfired, and yes, a few of us were totally lit.

We were also almost half of the department in one place.

So I do understand, get folks drunk, add guns, and there will be shots fired.

Just don't let yourself get confused.

This IS NOT about drunks having the right to their guns.

Actually, once a person displays signs of impairment their keys and gun should be taken away.

This is about RESPONSIBLE PEOPLE maintaining their right to protection.

Dont let a couple of drunks twist your mind around.

The 2nd SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED.

It`s about time !!!!. I sure hope the other states follow suit.

ahh  Dinarian you stated

Yes and not having a gun to protect your self from these types will not make the problem just go away.

Also Nobody is saying you can go to the bar and drink get drunk and carry a gun.

the law is you can be in a bar armed as long as your not consuming alcohol.

GOOOO !!!  Georgia !!!!

That is an excellent point.

These bleeding heart liberals all think that if you pass a law to get rid of guns: all the criminals & crazy folks will comply! LOL

The only thing that it will accomplish to to rob law-a-biding citizens of their right to defend themselves & create more innocent victims.

And churches too.... What possibly could go wrong?

Somebody popped you with a ruby U-man, I couldn't fix it.

But back to the topic. Why shouldn't folks have guns in church?

For anyone that wants to take a look, Jesus specifically told his disciples to arm themselves.

Huh? Look at Luke 22:35 - 38.

I often carry. I occasionally open carry. (Do you know how hard it is to find a left-handed holster?) But no, I don't carry a pistol to church. But churches, like schools, make soft targets for anyone wanting to cause mayhem. What better place to find Christians so you can murder and/or crucify them. There's nobody in the 21st Century looking to do that, is there?

But here are some other Georgia points:

- Open carry has been allowed for while in Georgia.

- If the church doesn't want weapons in the pews, they can opt out of the provisions and then someone carrying a gun can be fined.

- If a business doesn't want you to have a gun in their business, they can post a sign keeping legal gun owners out. Do you think a sign is going to stop a robber?

- Certain government buildings such as court houses "shall" keep guns out. Wouldn't be smart to have folks with guns at most divorce hearings.

- I haven't carried a gun in a bar for many years, now. I don't plan on starting to just because I can.

- Try to remember that the "symbolic" Kennesaw Law led to the crime rate dropping to almost nothing. Even then, anyone who wanted to could opt out of the "law."

- Lastly, and it has nothing to do with Georgia, Adam Lanza did not use an AR-15 to shoot children at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The AR-15 was in his car. He used pistols that he had stolen from his mother.

More liberal propaganda.

More British propaganda.

Remember, the Second Amendment exists because the British tried to take guns away from law-abiding citizen once.....

I carry all the time when I go to places like Applybees. As long as they do not make over 51% of their income off of alcohol it is legal!

I will NO longer be shopping at TARGET. Nation wide they have declared that they are against guns.

Wonder if 7/11's will make themselves a TARGET by making that statement? How about placing a sign in YOUR front yard declaring you are a gun free home?

LOL

I like you umbertino but why do you keep "throwing liberal grenade's" in the room?

Yeah I get the free speech idea but I would not walk into a police station telling doughnut jokes.

No pun intended NOT ;) But when in Rome.......

Kapeesh my friend?

And where guns aren't allowed, even by a police Chief;

Police Chief in Uniform Told to Leave Gun Outside Ikea

By NBCWashington.com

In 35 years in law enforcement, says the Takoma Park Police chief, he's never had this happen.

He's never had a store tell him that he would have to leave his service weapon in the car or leave the store -- especially when he was in his police uniform.

Sign up for breaking news alerts from NBC News

But that's what happened July 4 in the Ikea in College Park, where Takoma Park Police Chief Alan Goldberg had stopped in with his daughter. Goldberg was in uniform because he had worked that morning at the city's July 4 parade, and would be back on duty that night for fireworks.

140707-takoma-police-chief-jms-2046_0672NBC Washington
Takoma Park Police Chief Alan Goldberg said he was given two choices: Lock his gun in his car in a commercial parking lot, or leave Ikea.

In between, he stopped at Ikea to shop for furniture for his daughter's new apartment. And that's when a loss-prevention officer at the store approached him.

"He says we have a no firearms policy, and you're either going to have to leave or you can lock your gun in the car," Goldberg said.

The store has signs posted on the front door that read "Weapons Free Environment."

Neither of those options seemed a good one to the officer. "It isn't the most prudent thing to do to walk around the store in uniform with an empty holster," he said. "And I am not going to lock my gun in a commercial parking lot, with people watching me put it in there. That's just ludicrous."

The chief demanded to see the store's written policy, but he only got it today after News4 contacted Ikea. The retailer released this statement:

We regret that there was a misunderstanding of our weapon policy in our College Park Store. Our weapon policy does not apply to law enforcement officers. We are taking steps to ensure that this is clear for all our co-workers.

Goldberg, who was so angry at the store's response Friday that he posted about it on Facebook, said Monday that response satisfies him.

And it also satisfied shoppers that News4 spoke to at Ikea.

Many shoppers, like Arthur Marshall, said that retailers' no-gun policies should "maybe have an exception for police officers."

Monday, at Ikea, at least three armed police officers were seen at the College Park store at lunchtime.

Wow, Wm13

“Where ever there is a gun there is going to be violence and today we have guns everywhere.”

I wonder if your parents said that during WWII, when it was the Americans that fought and died to defend them?

And we did that even though your main guy Mussolini was one of the bastards that helped start it.

Next time your in Florence, stop by the American Cemetery, where 4,402 Americans gave their lives, or try Sicily, there's another 7861 Americans buried there.

That's 12,263 American lived lost, defending humans against the Nazi's in Italy alone, just so their kids could grow up socialist brats and dishonor the debt Italy has to Americas heroes that never made it home.

Each one of those dead Americans believed in the 2nd Amendment.

Your own parents understood the value of being able to defend themselves, that happened the second they were no longer able to, because their own government took their weapons away.

So now, you constantly want to disarm America.

I don't know why you hate my country so much, I don't hate Italy, even though I have more right as an American that lost family there.

Oh wait, you had family that died defending America?

It's in the Italian Cemetery here, the guys that volunteered to help us out when we couldn't take care of ourselves.

Oh wait, there isn't one, is ther, because no Itilians have EVER lifted a finger for anyone else, especially those damned Americans, out dying for other people of other countries.

Guess we're just a bunch of fools, clinging to some idiotic ideals that all humans matter, guess we should have just let you guy suffer what you deserved.

But we didn't, did we?

Now, there's over TWELVE THOUSAND dead Americans on your soil, and all yo can do is tell the rest of us how stupid we are.

Yeah, you got 104,366 dumb ass reasons to hate America, don't you?

Because that's the number of American Military that never made it back home, and died so that you could sit there and dump hate on us at every possible chance.

I'm sure that makes your dead ancestors proud. You know, the ones we saved so they could make a spoiled brat like you.

I know Dog, if I thought for a second he actually wrote it.. let's not go there.

I also know you love America as much as myself, and a great many people on this forum do..

Words matter, and I am not the only one that has observed the unbroken pattern of anti-American articles posted by him.

I believe umbertino is a basically decent person, and has an excellent taste for music.

I have also pleaded with him to please consider the implications of his posts, and he obviously doesn't care who he offends with his constant stream America bashing bile.

Thankfully, most of Europe does NOT share his disdain for us.

The ignorant, narrow minded, gibberish he posts demanding America melt down all private guns is so insanely ignorant of reality it would take a lifetime to repair.

And that is the point.

Just like that bastard pretender obummer, he wasn't raised in America.

he has absolutely no clue what it is like to grow up in America, to believe in individual freedom, and then be forced to watch as corrupted politicians take money from unethical global corporations as they pass laws designed to increase their sponsors profits.

he doesn't have to read about foreigners that hate his country for their ideals so much they spend their days trying to destroy him.

On the other hand, that is EXACTLY what I have to go through every time he so thoughtlessly posts those brainless fear mongering diatribes.

So, since he is so obviously determined to continue to post material so offensive to me, it is then my right to respond.

If he refuses to honor the memory of the THOUSANDS of Americans that died defending his countrymen from the Nazis, then I am compelled to remind him of what those American Liberators felt when they sacrificed themselves for a damn stranger.

If he continues to spew that hate, I will continue to defend America.

I will continue to write responses, until there comes a time I am able to contribute more than just words.

That is when you will see my posts end, and other actions begin.

Until such a time, I will in fact defend America from all enemies.

We are in a pitched battle, a battle of ideals, doctrines, and intent.

umbertino has decided to jump into the battle for America, with his one sided and jaded posts he has declared he agrees with those words simply by posting them on this site.

While he is a "messenger", don't lose site of the fact HE HAS CHOSEN THE MESSAGE. By choosing the topics and words he posted, he has made the statement he agrees with those words and thoughts.

By stating he agrees with those words, he has made it abundantly clear he hates America for what we are, and wishes to destroy us, along with our beliefs.

I am sorry Dog, I personally have nothing against umbertino, except for the fact he hates my country so much he is willing to pass along lies, deception, and unrest.

Maybe, if everybody finally quit posting crap, and was willing to take personal responsibility for everything they say, we wouldn't have so much turmoil.

Or, if they were suddenly exposed as in truth supporting the very garbage they pass along, we could then know exactly who our enemies are.

Look around you Dog, America is going up in flames.

The government is engaged in tyranny everywhere.

We need to stop this, once and for all.

I am willing to die for my country, I think you are too.

But does that mean you are unwilling to stand up to your neighbor until it's time to present arms?

It will be a little too late by then my friend.

All I'm saying is it's time to call out the bs.

Dog, with all due respect my friend... Umbertino puts himself in a proxy position of being the messenger. If he wants to come along and bring his opinions through these kinds of articles then so be it, but he better be ready to take the heat and take it like a man.

Umbertino I believe we here at DV know how you feel about America, but my question to you, I hope you use double your energy in defending your country, although you have a beautiful country, your country is in deep shat as well.

Umbertino, I do love your music.  :peace: Blessings to you my friend.

Dive patty I hear you and I know exactly where your coming from.

I used to feel the same way about umberts post.

Till I finaly got it.

Its not that he hates america.

He`s just another liberal who thinks that the ant farm beehive mentality is actually a viable way to live.

He`s also a devout pacifist who couldn't  hurt another human being to even save his own

We have a warriors mentality Dive .

We are willing to take a life if it becomes necessary  to our survival.

It is impossible for me to turn the other cheek. Its just not in me.

But there are hundreds of thousands out there just like Umbert who will

someday need men like us. They too will  one day feel the yoke of tyranny descend upon them.

and though they will not fight at least they will learn and hopefully help rebuild .

and finally realize that freedom comes with a price.

It`s hard for me to write another human being off just because they are misguided.

I like to think that its possible for them to one day learn.

Have you ever applied for a ccw permit? You are fingerprinted and have an extensive background check, photographed and the permit is harder to forge than a drivers license. Over the weekend of the 4th, 84 people shot, with 14 deaths in Chicago,a city with the strictest gun laws in the nation. I believe the examples that were mentioned were not legal carry anyway.

Where I live, Texas. Any where there is a 30.06 sign posted. I remove that store/chain from my shopping list. If my full rights are not respected. Then the store will have to do with out my business. We have a produce store here by the name of sprouts. They were purchased by a English group IHS. The signs went up and that was the last time I have been in that store. I will not patronize any one that will not respect my rights. Period, no if's, no but's.

Period 30.06 signs are not a popular thing here. If I can not carry a defensive weapon. I don't go there, ever!
