Drill This: US Now The World’s Largest Oil Producer and It’s About Time

Thanks to shale oil hydraulic fracturing, better known as fracking, the United States is now the largest producer of oil and natural gas liquids on the planet.

 

There are three primary influences on this change:

1. Increased domestic investment: Annual investment in oil and gas exploration and extraction reached a record $200 billion over the last year. This amount is 20% of the country’s total private fixed-structure spending.
2. World-wide troubles: ISIS takeovers in north Iraq, civil unrest in Libya, and theft and sabotage in Nigeria have all crimped production from the other substantial producers of fossil fuels.
3. Export rules changes: Last month the Obama administration cleared the way for the first export of unrefined American oil in nearly four decades, after signaling intentions to do so for months.

Given that the US is the largest worldwide consumer of fossil fuels, accessing resources that we have within our borders makes so much more sense than depending on the whims of far-less-stable countries elsewhere. The obvious conclusion to this news? Congratulations to US.

Thanks Mark, it does say "worlds largest producer" not worlds largest reserves, deposits, etc... correct? Meaning, am I to assume that perhaps the Middle East still is sitting on the worlds largest reserves? So I guess they still need to import the raw material to "produce" it or refine it to a usable state?

A recent report says that U.S. production of crude oil, as well as the fluid that is separated from natural gas, exceeded all other states, including Saudi Arabia, with a daily production beyond the barrier of 11 million barrels.

Ashraf Abujellalh of Cairo : Bank of America said that the United States will remain the largest producer of oil in the world this year after exceeding all of Saudi Arabia and Russia, in time caused by the extraction of energy from oil shale in stimulating the country's economic recovery.

It employs people in the US (myself included) vs some other country and it stimulates our Economy. Here in South Texas things are booming.
