Communion on the Moon

I presume that most of us were unaware of this story, but it is in fact awesome and it is true. 43 years ago there was a Communion on the Moon: July 20 1969. Two human beings changed history by walking on the surface of the Moon. But what happened before Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong exited the Lunar Module is perhaps the most amazing well kept story of our time. They took Communion on the Moon and gave thanks for God letting them have safe travel. It was almost like we were in God's back yard so to speak. We felt a drawing sensation, like we were really close. Buzz wrote about it six months after his return to earth. The book he wrote, was entitled, "Everything you always wanted to know about God but were afraid to ask". Aldrin was a elder at his church in Texas during this period of his life and knowing that he would be doing something unprecedented in human history, he felt he should mark the occasion somehow.

His minister at the time helped him think of what he wanted to do while he was there on the lunar surface. Communion was the thought that most fit the moment because giving thanks to God was heart felt. The two of them brought together the wafer and a tiny bottle of wine to carry on his mission. After he and Armstrong had been on the Lunar surface for a few minutes, Aldrin made the following public statement: "This is LM pilot, I'd like to take this opportunity to ask every person listening in, whomever and wherever they may be, to pause for a moment and contemplate the events of the past few hours and to give Thanks in his or her own way". He then ended his radio communication and there, on the silent surface of the moon looking out into the vast darkness behind them at other lights and planets and knowing God throne was there somewhere and he was listening with a big grin on his face. It was almost as if they could touch the face of God. 250,000 miles from earth, he read a verse from the Gospel of John then they knelt and took Communion.

Here is his own account of what transpired that day. During the blackout, the time between earth and orbit, I opened the little plastic package which contained the bread and wine and got it ready. The craft was steady so I poured the wine into the chalice type vessel made for this trip our church had given me. In the one-sixth gravity of the moon, the wine slowly curled and gracefully came up the side of the cup. Then I read the scripture, I am the Vine and you are my branches, whosoever abides in me will bring forth much fruit. Apart from me you can do nothing.

I had intended to read my message over live air but Nasa requested that I didn't do that. Nasa was already embroiled in a legal battle with Madelyn O'Hara, the celebrated opponent of religion and prayer. She started a frenzy about Apollo 8 being sent up and circling the Moon on Christmas. Buzz reluctantly agreed to their wished even though it was not right. The two of them had Communion there on the Moon while looking at the most gracious sight man will never conquer.

It was at this time in the history of mankind that the war on God was started in the United States with this one woman before Congress and got her way. Now pause for just a minute and look at how things have changed for the worst in the years since. Could you stand upon the surface of the Moon knowing that you are in a place that God allowed you to see and not be excited and wonder how close you were to Heaven.

Worship and submission on the part of a human being to his chosen deity is the great prize for which the all supernatural battles of the ages are fought.  All of creation exists for one grand purpose—Yahweh created it for the sake of his glory.

But God’s plan was attended by the resistance of Satan in everything from his presence at Eden to the efforts of useful idiots like Madelyn O'Hara.  It was worship that Satan wanted from Jesus in the wilderness temptation after his baptism by John. God alone deserves that worship but Satan is obsessed with obtaining it.  In Isaiah 14:14 Satan’s true ambition is revealed when he is quoted as saying; “I will make myself like the Most High.”  The first time the descriptive title “God Most High” (El Elyon) is used in the Bible was when Melchizedek revealed it to Abram and qualified it by saying that El Elyon is possessor of heaven and earth.  There are many descriptive titles for God that Lucifer could have chosen—his choice of the name “Most High” reveals his greatest desire, that of being lord of all of creation.  In Luke’s record of the temptations of Jesus, Satan shows him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time and says, “To you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me” (Luke 4:6).  But after his crucifixion and resurrection, Jesus said to the disciples, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me” (Matthew 28:18).  The tension between these statements is palpable—the one says, “all this authority… has been delivered to me,” and the other says, “all authority… has been given to me.”  Satan wants the possession of and control of God’s creation; he wants for himself all the glory associated with being its master.  In spite of all his efforts though, it's not going to work out very well for him—The LORD says to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool" (Psalm 110:1). The enemies of Jesus don’t know it yet but they are and have been in the process of being made his footstool.

I agree Mule....it is very simple....God and Jesus stands for everything that provides love, peace, kindness, care, happiness, loyalty, friendship, smiles and worship...........and the flip side of this is Satan who stands for deception, trouble, lying, hurt, false hope, rudeness, killing, problems, drugs, unhappiness, guilt, and loss of self worth and the generations have been and are being taught while young to ignore what is good just and kind and to worship a living God who we will stand before one day.
