umbertino
Football fans clash in Rome before the Italian Cup final, between Napoli and Fiorentina, delaying kick-off by 45 minutes 2:52PM BST 04 May 2014 The kick-off of the Italian Cup soccer final match between Napoli and Fiorentina was delayed on Saturday after clashes near Rome's Olympic Stadium. Clashes took place in the Tor di Quinto area close to the stadium, with rival supporters throwing firecrackers and other objects at each other ahead of the game which was due to kick off at 1900 GMT but was delayed by 45 minutes. In another incident before the match, three Napoli fans were shot. One of the men was taken to hospital in a critical condition after being hit in the chest, while two others who had been shot in the arm were also treated in hospital. The pistol used in the incidents has been found by the police, the AGI and ANSA news agency said. However, the police said in a statement that the three shootings did not appear to be linked to the broader clashes in the Tor di Quinto area. The website of daily newspaper La Repubblica reported a total of six people had been injured in the clashes. ANSA put the tally at 10 and said four were in hospital. A large section of the Napoli supporters watched the match in almost complete silence in protest to the events outside. Napoli eventually beat Fiorentina 3-1 to win the cup for the fifth time on Saturday, with Italy international Lorenzo Insigne scoring twice.
