Obama Calls for Highest Sustained Taxation in U.S. History

(CNSNews.com) - In the budget proposal he presented to Congress last month,

President Barack Obama called for what would be the highest level of sustained

taxation ever imposed on the American people, according to

the analysis published last week by the Congressional Budget Office.

Under Obama’s proposal, taxes would rise from 17.6 percent of

Gross Domestic Product in 2014 to 19.2 percent in 2024.

During the ten years from 2015 to 2024, federal taxation would average 18.7 percent GDP.

America has never been subjected to a ten-year stretch of taxation at that level.

Funny how small minded people believe an April Fools Day joke and quote it as the truth. That post is all BS...starting with the fact that Obama NEVER applied for nor received any scholarship for foreign students. Just a TAD of fact checking would be nice..

The Fulbright Scholarship that they are talking about is NOT just for foreign students and is NEVER given to underclassmen such as Obama was.

The Fulbright Program, including the Fulbright-Hays Program, is a program of highly competitive, merit-based grants for international educational exchange for students, scholars, teachers, professionals, scientists and artists, founded by United States Senator J. William Fulbright in 1946. Under the Fulbright Program, competitively selected U.S. citizens may become eligible for scholarships to study, conduct research, or exercise their talents abroad; and citizens of other countries may qualify to do the same in the United States.

The Fulbright Program provides 8,000 grants annually to undertake graduate study, advanced research, university lecturing, and classroom teaching. As of 2013, more than 325,400 persons—122,800 from the United States and 202,600 from other countries—have participated in the program since it began.

Now get the neg buttons out instead of acknowledging the truth.

Let’s go through the list of BS suggested by that image’s text, note-by-note, and explain how incredibly false each statement is.  And somewhere along the way, you’ll come to realize just how frighteningly ignorant some people can be.  Please note that the original poster opened by listing these as President Obama’s “accomplishments,” hence the “first president” lines:

First President to apply for college aid as a foreign student, then deny he was a foreigner.

Like a number of anti-Obama lies, this one was invented by the “birther” movement.  Snopes put this myth through a wood-chipper in 2009, pointing out that the source material used to invent the story was fictional and packed with lies.  But hey, don’t let that stop your conspiracy theory.  You’re this close to finding Elvis’ abandoned alien spaceship!  You know, the one where he staged the moon landing?  That one!

First President to have a social security number belonging to another man, from a state he has never lived in.

The Social Security Death Index shows that Jean Paul Ludwig, who was born in 1890 and died in 1981, had a completely different Social Security number than President Obama.  And this lie shows how the right-wing loves to evolve their BS, too… this line claims the man was from a state Obama never lived in, which is true, since Ludwig was an immigrant.  But Ludwig died in Honolulu, Hawaii, which is what gave this story credence in the first place… well, until you realize he died in 1981, anyway.

First President to preside over a cut to the credit-rating of the United States.

This one is a candidate for one of my favorite lies listed, because it was republicans, not President Obama, that caused our credit rating to be lowered.  Republicans, who voted to raise the debt ceiling 19 times under President Bush and 18 times under Reagan, suddenly decided that we couldn’t raise the debt ceiling any more, even though failure to do so would cause the United States to default on its loans, and has nothing whatsoever to do with borrowing more money.  By protesting the debt ceiling being raised and very loudly, publicly attacking the idea of doing it, the creditor agencies were scared into lowering our credit rating.  President Obama has no control over getting republican lunatics to shut their faces, but trust me, if he could, I’m pretty sure he would.

First President to violate the War Powers Act.

The War Powers Resolution (it’s a resolution, not an act) has its constitutionality questioned by scholars in every single one of the fifty states, and has also been challenged by literally every single president we’ve had since 1973, but hey, let’s stay on topic.  The debate over the War Powers Resolution’s role in our military history is murky at best, but strong arguments can be made that George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, and Ronald Reagan all violated the act, in varying ways and to varying degrees.

First President to be held in contempt of court for illegally obstructing oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.

It was actually his administration and the US government – not the president himself — that was found in contempt of court.  But in some convoluted way, this one is sort of true.  He wasn’t the first to be held in contempt of court, of course.  To list all of them would take quite a long time.  Recently, though?  George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Reagan… pretty much all of them.

First President to require all Americans to purchase a product from a third party.

Congress passed the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, and the Supreme Court upheld it.  In reality, the bill proposed by President Obama was vastly different from the one that became law.  So it wasn’t really Obama that mandated the purchase of insurance, it was the government in general.  Of course, local, county, and state governments the country over require all sorts of insurance policies be purchased, especially when related to cars and businesses.  Some republican-controlled towns have even gone so far as to mandate gun ownership.  Where’s the outcry over that?  Oh, silly me, that’s not socialism… it’s freedom!  MURKA!

First President to spend a trillion dollars on “shovel-ready” jobs when there was no such thing as “shovel-ready” jobs.*

The plan called for $50 billion… not $1 trillion.  Where did the other $950 billion come from in this myth?  Who knows.  But hey, it was invented by conservatives, and they’re not too skilled with that “math” stuff, so lay off.

First President to abrogate bankruptcy law to turn over control of companies to his union supporters.

This one is stemmed in a wildly popular conservative conspiracy theory that “Obama oversaw a hostile government takeover of the American auto industry.”  That’s not actually what happened, though.  The car companies approached the government asking for a loan.  Obama’s administration approved the loan, citing the million-plus American jobs that would be lost if the loan wasn’t given.  Since then, the loan has been mostly returned, and the car companies that took the aid are thriving.

First President to bypass Congress and implement the Dream Act through executive fiat.

No such executive order exists.  In 2011, the Obama administration started using a policy of giving “particular care” in deportation cases, deprioritizing “low risk” cases such as soldiers, children, and students.

First President to order a secret amnesty program that stopped the deportation of illegal immigrants across the U.S. including those with criminal convictions.

You know what’s funny about this myth?  Oh… everything.  Ronald Reagan signed an executive order granting amnesty to over 1 million illegal immigrants in 1986.  Obama’s widely-touted amnesty initiative — which was in no way secret, unless you don’t pay attention to the news, you’re a liar, or you’re an idiot — granted amnesty to approximately 300,000 illegal immigrants… 700 thousand fewer than Ronald Reagan.  But Obama is black, so of course that makes his way worse, right?

First President to demand a company hand-over $20 billion to one of his political appointees.

This lie comes to us from Fox News, who is totally fair and balanced and has never made up anyth… oh, who am I kidding?  BP, in compliance of an order by the US government, set up a $20 billion trust fund in 2011, as compensation to cover costs from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010.  In July of 2013, the Wall Street Journal reported that BP claimed the fund was “running on fumes,” as most of the money had been spent on what it was meant for.  I’m not sure where Fox News came up with this political appointee bullshit, but rest assured that like everything else on Fox News, it most certainly is exactly that… baloney.

First President to tell a CEO of a major corporation (Chrysler) to resign.

Another GM myth?  Can’t you people keep these lies in tidy little groups?  This one is somewhat true, in that Obama really did tell General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner to step down from his post due to his poor record of performance.  Wagoner agreed to step down.  If anything, Obama should be praised for this.  Wagoner was doing a terrible job, and Obama was protecting the taxpayer’s investment by asking — not ordering, but asking — for a new, more competent CEO to fill the vacancy.  A bank would do the same thing with a smaller business.

First President to terminate America’s ability to put a man in space.

That honor belongs to Richard Nixon, a republican, who ordered the cancellation of the Apollo program in 1975, five years prior to the maiden launch of the space shuttle.  Reagan’s administration played a small role in grounding the shuttle after the Challenger explosion.  This time around, it was President George W. Bush who ordered NASA to shut down the shuttle program, and few at NASA disagree with that call, I should add, since the shuttles are aging relics.  The Obama administration has encouraged the private sector to send people into space, and NASA’s new space vessel will be ready to launch in 2020.  Back here on Earth?  This is more BS, a lie-packed story that PolitiFact gave a “pants-on-fire” rating in 2011.

First President to cancel the National Day of Prayer and to say that America is no longer a Christian nation.

The National Day of Prayer is not an official holiday.  Obama chose not to observe it, but he most certainly did not cancel the event, and it has been held in 2009, 2010, 2012, and 2013.  And I’d hate to break this to thepeople pitching this trash, but the United States is not, has never been, and never will be a Christian nation.  The First Amendment in our Bill of Rights makes that abundantly clear.  In fact, the phrase “separation of church and state” was coined by Thomas Jefferson in reference to said amendment.  Just because you’re a Christian doesn’t mean everyone in America has to be one too.

First President to have a law signed by an auto-pen without being present.

Ooh, scary! This confounded technology will be the death of us all!  Why, just the other day, a courier delivered a letter to me from a friend three miles away — who would dare walk such a great distance? — on a device called a “bicycle,” which moved as a carriage would, but ON TWO WHEELS!  And in that letter, my friend spoke of the most heinous technological devices used by Obama!  He rides in a large horseless carriage, black as death itself!  And he tears through the sky in flying machines!  And he conjures the black arts of magic, the devil’s sorcery if I do say so, to speak into a tiny device with other people miles away!  Obama is a necromancer, I tell ye!  NECROMANCER!!!

First President to arbitrarily declare an existing law unconstitutional and refuse to enforce it.

This one is pretty vague, but based on Obama’s record, I’m guessing the liar is calling into question Obama’s decision not to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act.  Funny thing about that… the Supreme Court decided it was unconstitutional as well.

First President to threaten insurance companies if they publicly spoke out on the reasons for their rate increases.

US Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius sent out an email in 2011 calling on insurance companies to stop using lies about Obamacare in scare tactic campaigns with their customers.  The insurance companies were lying to their customers, and Sebelius told them to stop.  In States that are fully implementing Obamacare, like New York, Maine, and California, premiums are dropping by as much as 50%, so like the other items on this list, this one is baloney.

First President to tell a major manufacturing company in which state it is allowed to locate a factory.

In an effort to screw over unions, Boeing made a move to open a second aircraft production facility in south Carolina.  an Obama appointee reached out to a judge to stop that from happening, and had the factory moved to Washington State instead.  The judge made the final decision in this case, and Obama didn’t even speak publicly about the incident, nor did he ever speak to anyone at Boeing (if he did, Boeing never commented on it).  So this one is also false.

First President to file lawsuits against the states he swore an oath to protect (AZ, WI, OH, IN).

The oath says nothing about protecting States.  It’s an affirmation to protect the Constitution.  But let’s not get held up on that.  The Obama administration sued Arizona over their draconian immigration law, Ohio over early voting rules, and Indiana for defunding Planned Parenthood.    He never sued Wisconsin, though the ACLU did for nonsensical, racist voter ID laws.  Do you know who else has sued States over the years?  Every presidential candidate ever.

First President to withdraw an existing coal permit that had been properly issued years ago.

This one is true, but steeped in stupidity.  Obama withdrew a coal permit for the purpose of stopping an act of “mountaintop removal,” a controversial process that does insurmountable damage to the environment.  Really, it was the EPA that did this, not actually President Obama, but hey, if you want to give him credit for protecting the lives of every American citizen living in the area of the Virginia mine, be my guest.

First President to actively try to bankrupt an American industry (coal).

There is zero evidence to support that Obama is trying intentionally to bankrupt the coal industry.  He’s been deploying aggressive tactics in fighting the 19th century fuel industry, because coal has no place in modern society.  “Clean coal” is an utter lie invented by the coal industry to make people feel good about it, even though it does incredible damage to the environment, not only through mining it, but also through using it.  Is he trying to bankrupt big coal?  I don’t know, but I sure as hell hope he is.

First President to fire an inspector general of AmeriCorps for catching one of his friends in a corruption case.

The Obama Administration did fire AmeriCorps Inspector General Gerald Walpin, a G.W. Bush appointee.  The White House stated in a press release that Walpin, who planned to resign at the start of Obama’s first term but later decided to stay, was fired for not showing up to work, something you’d be fired for too if you tried it.  They also cited inappropriate conduct.  Walpin never argued with those assertions… why would he?  He wanted to retire anyway.

First President to appoint 45 czars to replace elected officials in his office.

“Czars” do not replace elected officials.  They’re brought in as advisers, aides, and occasionally the title is thrown at active, sitting officials because they take on some swath of specific policy reform.  Not a single one of Obama’s “czars” has been appointed through any means outside of the law.  Most of the lists of Obama’s czars pushed by right-wing websites actually list people that have never once been labeled a “czar” by anyone, other than that list of course.  His actual count is 32 czars.  Bush, meanwhile, had 35… so it’s no small wonder the right-wing sites lied about it.

First President to surround himself with radical left wing anarchists.

This lie is stemmed in the myth that Obama was good friends with Bill Ayers.  Ayers once served on a committee with Obama… along with several republicans.  He also owned a home in the same neighborhood as Obama, in Chicago, where Ayers was a professor.  Obama was eight years old when Ayers carried out his terrorist acts with the Weather Underground.  Charges against Ayers and his wife were dropped in 1974.  Ayers has never once visited the White House, and no evidence exists whatsoever that Ayers has played any role, in any capacity, in Obama’s presidency.

First President to golf 73 separate times in his first two and a half years in office, 102 to date.

This one is true.  Obama played more golf that either George W. Bush or Ronald Reagan.  But he’s also taken fewer vacation days than either of those presidents.  In fact, he’s taken far fewer vacation days than either of them.  Many of the president’s golf games are done in a similar fashion to that of a business CEO; Obama takes his meetings onto the green with him.  I don’t really see the conspiracy here.  George Bush rode his bike a lot, and crashed it, too… call in the feds!  Oh, and House Speaker John Boehner?  He plays four times as often.  But hey, he’s only House Speaker, so who cares, right?

First President to hide his medical, educational and travel records.

It isn’t so much that he hid them, as he chose not to set a dangerous precedent by showing them.  No president in the history of the United States has ever been asked to show this much information about themselves.  We know he smoked pot back in the day.  We know where he went to school.  And we know where in the world he’s traveled to.  What’s the problem?  And furthermore, name one US president that has ever shown this information.  I’m calling this one BS simply because of how engineered an issue it really is.

First President to win a Nobel Peace Prize for doing NOTHING to earn it.

Obama’s Nobel Prize was awarded “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.”  Obama was praised the world over for his efforts at diplomacy, not only during those nine months in office, but also while he was still on the campaign trail.

First President to go on multiple “global apology tours” and concurrent ”insult our friends” tours.

After eight years of Bush mangling our foreign relations, a few apologies were in order.  Let me explain how grown-ups do things, silly idiot.  If you spilled a drink on me, then yelled “MURKA!” and pumped your hands in the air before slapping a waitress on her rear, I would punch you in your face really, really hard.  If you apologized and went about your business, I would say “don’t worry about it” and go about mine.  America needs friends around the globe, and Stockholm syndrome isn’t really an effective way of making them.

First President to go on 17 lavish vacations, including date nights and Wednesday evening White House parties for his friends paid for by the taxpayers.

G.W. Bush Vacation Days: 879
Clinton Vacation Days: 174
Reagan Vacation Days: 436
Johnson Vacation Days: 484
John Adams’ Vacation Days: 7 to 8 months consecutively

Every president in history has enjoyed vacations, and every president in history has entertained guests at the White House (well, except for Washington… he never got to live there, because it didn’t exist when he was president).  And yes, those vacations and parties have been lavish… he’s the frickin’ president.  You’d rather he visits Trenton, driving himself there in a 1989 Toyota Camry, and checking himself in at a Motel 6?  Yeah, because that wouldn’t set this country’s image back by 200 years.

First President to have 22 personal servants (taxpayer funded) for his wife.

Michelle Obama has 16 staffers… not 22.  Hillarious Clinton had 19.  Laura Bush had 24.  Michelle Obama is an actively-engaged First Lady with her own agendas, programs, and initiatives.  She rightly should have a larger staff for helping with all of the things she’s working on.

First President to keep a dog trainer on retainer for $102,000 a year at taxpayer expense.

There is ZERO evidence supporting this theory.  A right-wing conspiracy theory blogger dropped his pants and left this gem on his website a few years ago, with no citations or links… he just made it up.

First President to fly in a personal trainer from Chicago at least once a week at taxpayer expense.

Obama’s personal trainer, Cornell McClellan, does fly in once per week… at his own expense.  Obama pays McClellan from his own finances.  There’s no evidence supporting the idea that taxpayers are footing the bill, unless you count use of the White House gym, which every contemporary president has used.

First President to repeat the Holy Quran & tell us the early morning call of the Azan (Islamic call to worship) is the most beautiful sound on earth

This especially shiny turd of a lie comes from a YouTube video, where a crafty poster edited the words of President Obama from another speech to give the impression that he’s “admitting” that he’s a “Muslim.”  Not that being a Muslim should be something we’re afraid of, but hey, racists need something to complain about, right?

First President to tell the military men and women that they should pay for their own private insurance because they “volunteered to go to war and knew the consequences.”

This quote never came out of Obama’s mouth, in any context, or in any segment of any speech.  The origin of this lie seems to be another right-wing conspiracy site… and another instance of BS.

Then he was the First President to tell the members of the military that THEY were UNPATRIOTIC for balking at the last suggestion.

Again, this never, ever happened.

First President to side with a foreign nation over one of the American 50 states (Mexico vs. Arizona)..

Mexico was suing over Arizona’s nonsensical racial profiling law, which the administration also sued over.  So this one is true.  Obama did side with Mexico over Arizona… because Arizona was in the wrong.  When people ask me why I don’t believe in American exceptionalism, this is usually the sort of nonsense I point toward.
