yota691
Published on Sep 20, 2013 A parent in Towson, Md., was arrested Thursday night at a public forum after vocally expressing his concerns about the Baltimore County School District's plan to use Common Core standards in its curriculum. Robert Small, a concerned father, was forcefully removed from the meeting by a police officer after he interrupted Baltimore County Schools Superintendent Dallas Dance during the question-and-answer portion of the forum. The meeting apparently didn't allow parents to stand up and ask questions or comment. Parents and other attendants were instead asked to write their questions on a piece of paper and officials would read them. However, Small began speaking out against the district's use of Common Core, prompting a security guard, who was also a police officer, to approach him and order him to leave. "Let's go!" he said sternly. When Small didn't immediately comply, the officer began pulling his arm and pushing him towards the exit. Some audience members gasped at the cop's use of force."Don't stand for this," the father said as he was dragged out. "You are sitting here like cattle! Is this America?"Small also urged other parents to demand answers on Common Core and the curriculum being used to educate their children. As the Baltimore Sun reports, the officer then "pushed Small and then escorted him into the hall, handcuffed him and had him sit on the curb in front of the school."Small was charged with second-degree assault of a police officer and faces a $2,500 fine and up to 10 years in prison. He was also charged with disturbing a school operation, which carries an additional $2,500 and up to six months in jail. Small attempted to push the officer away when he first approached him, the police report claims. Watch the video and decide for yourself if Small assaulted the officer: Despite some opposition from parents, the Maryland State Department of Education reportedly plans to go forward with its implementation of Common Core standards, joining 45 other states and Washington, D.C., in adopting the standards for the first time this year."Look, I am being manhandled and shut down because I asked inconvenient questions," Small told the Baltimore Sun after the incident. "Why won't they allow an open forum where there can be a debate? We are told to sit there and be lectured to about how great common core is." 4

64jaguar
All of the public schools use DELPHI as a means to push their agenda. They are no more education centers, but Indoctrination camps. The police on the other hand ALWAYS charge those like Mr. Small with assaulting a police officer, whether they do or not. It's their game to garner funds to discharge congressional debt whereas Mr. Small will be dragged in front of a trier of fact, guilty until proven innocent. STOP being patriotic to these f*&(^ks They are killing us..... and if you can, Home school your kids!!

cooked
The cop should be charged for use of excessive force. That is amazing how the cop thinks he can just push people around. At least Mr. Small has this video to prove how he was manhandled. So much for freedom of speech.

That's right brother! The only way I'm standing down or shutting up is if I'm dead! This would never happen in Texas! And if it did the crowd would turn on the cops that even attempted to do this. Ass whippins can be applied to police also.

I'd think it should be a pretty easy case for a lawyer to win . He ( Mr.Small) should deserve to get a lot of money too for unjust and unjustified arrest....JMHO. hame55
I agree. Freedom of speech should be protected and he should not have been thrown out but asked to quiet down after speaking out. Writing comments out is BS. However, if he is questioning the education system based on his Christian Faith...we have separation of church and state in the CONSTITUTION and it means just that. He can't change the system to fit his faith needs. He is free to home or private school.
easyrider
Public schools in america are complete trash now and no longer safe for a healthy education. If you want the best for your children you gotta pay to play and it comes with a hefty price for education. All schools are being turned into privatized organizations to form a business and create a black market for billions of dollars School is no longer a public service to better our childrens future. Also avoid sallie mae student loans because thats how they get you into debt. When you are in debt this is how they control YOU. pattyangel
Home school while you can. Eventually they'll take that away. Parents you are the first teachers in your child's life, why use this system to indoctrinate your children. You children will turn against moral family values. Fight for your children, get involved. My daughter is homeschooling, a at the same time president of her local PTA. She is not only watching out for her children but for her communities children. Teach your children the United States Constitution, Bill of Right and Declaration of Independence, stress this all involves their freedoms and there are some bad people out there who want to take them away. Get involve and lets change this ASAP, for your children's future.

That's exactly what Mr. Berlusconi , while Head of Gov't here, had tried to do for years.... To make the public school system ( from elementary to University) worse and worse by systematically taking away funds year after year and instead give to private school system....So only the rich would be able to get a good education and the best jobs.....That was Berlusconi's idea of equal starting opportunity..... .A good public school system should be one of the critical structures of a decent democratic State worthy of that name ( democratic State).JMHO Edited September 22, 2013 by umbertino

Beside the money for excessive force and stuff, the cop should be suspended for a good period of time. We need to send a message to these big headed cops who think they are above the law. How dumb was this cop, he knew he was being recorded. What would he have done if there was no video?
64jaguar
The use of Delphi, developed by the Rand Corporation is very often used to promote an agenda giving the appearance of group participation for a predetermined outcome. It's very clear this school board was having nothing to do with a debate on the issues but only giving the appearance by filling the room with other parents. Written questions only!! Really!
