DUBAI (Reuters) - Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri urged small-scale attacks inside the United States to "bleed America economically", adding he hoped eventually to see a more significant strike, according to the SITE monitoring service.

In an audio speech released online a day after the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 strikes, Zawahri said attacks "by one brother or a few of the brothers" would weaken the U.S. economy by triggering big spending on security, SITE reported.

Western counter-terrorism chiefs have warned that radicalized "lone wolves" who might have had no direct contact with al Qaeda posed as great a risk as those who carried out complex plots like the 9/11 attacks.

"We should bleed America economically by provoking it to continue in its massive expenditure on its security, for the weak point of America is its economy, which has already begun to stagger due to the military and security expenditure," he said.

Keeping America in such a state of tension and anticipation only required a few disparate attacks "here and there", he said

"As we defeated it in the gang warfare in Somalia, Yemen, Iraq and Afghanistan, so we should follow it with ...war on its own land. These disparate strikes can be done by one brother or a few of the brothers."

At the same time, Muslims should seize any opportunity to land "a large strike" on the United States, even if this took years of patience.

The Sept 11, 2001 attacks, in which hijacked airliners were flown into New York's World Trade Center, the Pentagon in Washington and a Pennsylvania field, triggered a global fight against al Qaeda extremists and their affiliates. Almost 3,000 people were killed in the attacks.

In his audio speech, Zawahri said Muslims should refuse to buy goods from America and its allies, as such spending only helped to fund U.S. military action in Muslim lands. He added that Muslims should abandon the U.S. dollar and replace it with the currency of nations that did not attack Muslims.

Zawahri spoke approvingly of one of the worst attacks on U.S. soil since September 11, 2001, the bombing of the Boston Marathon in April, which U.S. authorities say was carried out by two ethnic Chechen Muslim brothers. The attack killed three people and injured 264.

Zawahri sought to paint the bombing as part of al Qaeda's violent transnational campaign of jihad or holy war against U.S. interests, even if it was relatively small-scale.

"The Boston incident confirms to the Americans ... that they are not facing individuals, organizations or groups, but they are facing an uprising Ummah (Muslim community), that rose in jihad to defend its soul, dignity and capabilities."

"What the American regime refuses to admit is that al Qaeda is a message before it was an organization," he said.

Zawahri, suspected by many security specialists to be living in the Pakistan-Afghanistan border area, added that the al Qaeda message simply was that if Muslims wanted to live in dignity and "be liberated", then they had to defend their dignity.

He forgets some basic things.  As each American arms themself there is not draw on American economy.  If anything there would be fuel IN the economy as people buy precious metals such as lead, copper and brass.  He thinks Americans are simply going to depend upon the government for protection.  Guess what, dirtbag, the average American will NOT marandize your butt and will not apologize after we shoot you or beat the stuffings out of you and your idiot minions.  DO NOT PERCEIVE AMERICAN MEEKNESS AS WEAKNESS!

Dirt bag, terrorists. Wait to your introduced to a redneck rifleman, from the heart of this country. You'd wish you were at Guantanamo. F you

Did CNN do the interview? It's funny ny times, CNN can find and talk to these terrorists, but the government can't find the . Oh that's right, there on their walk into Syria, probably being armed along the way

This is a serious issue. Made serious because the United States of America State Department has allowed tto many suspect individuals into our country who could very well be Al Qaeda agents, or agents of other terrorist organizations. :(

It sure is. The biggest concern of mine is the sympathizer in the WH.

Is anyone sitting back and saying.... why now??? Why after all these years of potential threat, does it come now??? Think about it.... think Snowden,... the outrage that we're the subject of multiple privacy breaches by agencies wishing we were comforted by their secure protection... How do you get an angry mob to back down? Convince them that what you have to sell is what they need to be okay....

How do we step through this with rational logic... we use rational logic. Meaning, if you're more attached to vitriolic lashing out at this president or the last, this party over that.... you're going to be useless in this endeavour. You'll be too easy to manipulate for any real long term defence against constitutional breach. I'm gobsmacked that none of this rage was evident when the patriot act was passed,.... talk about slaughtering  everything sacred to the American way. I'm disgusted so few even know what it says, or its impact. There is a time for righteous anger, but that means having clarity about the real issues, marked by the ability to see what is happening in a bigger picture. The former guy in office was responsible for building the slaughterhouse butchering the foundation, this guy signed on, making several strong additions bringing that erosion into the individual states.... while making several weak and failed attempts at disarming the nation.

So now we're at this watershed moment of figuring out what this guy is going to do about the stuff the last guy put in place, and an angry people who found out about it.... And what better way than to introduce a "threat" to quiet the masses.... It worked for GW.... and the last decade proved you can do the same thing over and over again, and people will fall for it... IF you can hook them emotionally....

So here we are with the first shot over the bow... I'm grateful for the anger, disappointed that its impotent in its misdirection and concerned that its so superficial, it will lay dormant if a republican was next elected.

Its going to to take a minute to get all the angry people back in line. Stay angry my friends, and focus it on the big picture. Don't let your emotions fool you into thinking its one guy, or one party, or one term in office... If the common ground is civil rights, let your brain prevail in remaining on those grounds, and focused on the big picture threatening them. This ride is much bigger than what's happening with this guy. If you can't see that, call a decorator for the fema room the next  guy has all set up for you and you can draw all the angry little pictures you want, cause it won't matter.

Razur. I must say you absolutely nailed it. It's not about Republicans or Democrats. It's most all of them. Politicians today are more like a gang of whores, whether paid off or threatened by the real power that is driving this country into the dirt. It's all about money, greed and absolute power. I stress ABSOLUTE power.

I think someone should send him a few links describing how well armed the average American is. He basically pleads for a *couple of brothers* to do his dirty work. If this starts to happen, he may just start a Jihad in the U.S.A to rid the land of *his brothers*.

I wonder what his sorry azz would think about that ? Actually he would probably call up a couple losers named Abu Jackson and Alla Sharpton.

You got it....  :twothumbs:  Maybe I should have said boo hoo all ya want about this guy versus that guy.... I really honestly don't care, as long as people stay   conscious enough to defend against whatever kind of nitwit dill weed legislation violating the constitution results from this... which would have to require both sides of the aisle to enact....

and where is "their" country? The US / CIA formed them from the Taliban, to work their agenda in this Military Industrial Complex, they have no country.

It's a CIA conspiracy to create havoc in this world.

Ever heard of the mid east?

Even if the leadership was "formed" by the Agency, and I think they were not - just tools paid and used by us against the Soviets -

the everyday Muslim we have been droning and bombing for years will attack us...no matter the CIA and its tentacles

You think the Boston bombers are CIA? They are just following the movement.
