FAA: Boeing 777 crashes at San Francisco International Airport

(CNN) -- A Boeing 777 operated by Asiana Airlines crashed while landing Saturday at San Francisco International Airport, an FAA spokesman told CNN.

Video from the scene posted on YouTube showed dark gray smoke rising from the plane, which appeared to be upright.

Evacuation slides could be seen extending from one side of the aircraft, from which there was no apparent smoke.

The airport is located about 12 miles south of downtown San Francisco.

The top forward part of the fuselage is burned off, the landing gear has collapsed, and the tail broke off.  Perhaps the tail hit the runway hard and broke off?

Fox just reported no fatalities.

Boeing has been having a hard time of it this year. Boeing news is big here in the NW. With this and the "battery" issues they had earlier this year, it's tough for them.

Additional footage is showing the plane landed short, possibly hitting the rocks between the water and the runway.

 

FoxNews reporting 48 serious injuries, 2 fatalities.  One News Reporter saying that the Plane "Flipped Upside-down", the plane ended up on its belly.

TV News update has reported 2 dead so far supposedly.

when i used to fly from Dubai, my delta flight would always land hard at ATL.  777 are pretty safe.

Fox News is reporting: 291 on board, 10 critically injured. Earlier reported 2 dead, not saying that now.

 

I have flown on a 777, good plane. Asiana is also a good airline company, but this looks like pilot error to me, landed too short.

Prayers gone up to the families of all on board.
