yota691 Posted May 5, 2013 Report Share Posted May 5, 2013 WTO negotiating Syria to join Approved by members of the World Trade Organization on Tuesday to start talks with Syria to grant membership after nine years of providing Damascus request to join the organization. The move indicates that the United States and Israel Tkhalita for their opposition to the accession negotiations this Arab country, and comes despite the fact that Washington Monday renewed its sanctions on Damascus. According to the existing system in the WTO, the accession of a new member of the organization have no objection, all members currently totaling 153 countries. It is noteworthy that Syria was a founding member in 1947 of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), which was replaced by the World Trade Organization, but stopped participating in the work and did not join the organization when it was established in 1995. Damascus has applied to join in October / November 2001. Syria is seeking to join the organization to expand their global business transactions and thus increase the productivity and development, and that this would join to increase customs revenue as a result of the liberalization of foreign trade. Egypt was the made the call to study the Syrian demand to join. And often crossed the developing countries in the WTO concern about delays in allowing other developing countries to join the organization. And between countries awaiting approval by Algeria, Libya, Yemen, Iran and Afghanistan. The new resolution gives Syria immediately observer status in the WTO. After he took his seat as an observer told the Syrian ambassador in Geneva Faisal Hamwi FAO Council that Syria's membership will strengthen the global trading system and will enhance the prosperity of his country and the rest of the world.
