  • 3 weeks later...

A friend fighting the big C is taking this and feeling good results so far.  I'm all for anything that helps heal while keeping us off chemo and  heavy prescription meds...

I did a check on www. Snopes.com and a few things about it were challenged, but no one had any solid proof either way.

I started researching it when I got the same email a few weeks ago.  It sounded promising in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, so I read up on it a bit for that condition.  (I wish I could be more specific, but..) I read something about people with certain medical conditions should be careful about the amount they took.   So be sure and learn about the right dosage.  There's a lot on the internet about it.

I hope this helps.  And I hope we all find a more natural way to help our bodies heal

Just got some information about this the other day.  Coincidence?  I think not...

Take a look here for some interesting info - http://www.americanhealthcarefoundation.org/fibromyalgia-md/GSH.cfm

Took some quotes out that caught my eye -

"Free radical induced Inflammation has recently been identified as a major source of the debilitating effects from fibromyalgia."

"As in all inflammatory pain conditions – the disease, in turn - generates further oxidative stress, thus perpetuating the cycle of pain, common to fibromyalgia"

"Of the antioxidants that can prevent or *********** the pain response from fibromyalgia, GSH (Glutathione) has been identified as central - acting as an anti-inflammatory agent within the cell. It is your body's natural antioxidant."

"High GSH levels work to combat oxidative damage preventing the development of inflammation, and the resulting pain."

The web page also talks about some steps to help raise the GSH level in the body - including some diet changes, the biggest being adding raw milk and fresh eggs to raise the cysteine levels in the body. This is one of the needed precursors to creating GSH in the cells.

If anyone is interested, I also have a clinical study white paper for a supplement that increased the over all antioxidant efficiency, including glutathione and super oxide dismutase, in cultured human endothelial cells by 500%.  In the interest of full disclosure, I am associated witht the company that sells the supplement, so I won't post an links here to stay compliant with the sites TOS.

Below is a list of potential symptoms that indicate an issue with your thyroid. Some blood tests may not show that you in fact have a thyroid issue.

To test at home try using a thermometer to measure your body temperature over a period of 3-7 days. Do this BEFORE you get out of bed or begin to actively move around.

Your temperature should be between 97.8 and 98.2 on average. If it’s not then you will want to test further and start giving your thyroid some support with herbs, foods and supplements.

I saw this article and topic posted some time ago and wanted to participate and just did not find the time until now. I practice holistic and preventative medicine. I adjust my diet and consume many herbal remedies, vitamins, minerals and add more and more organic and super-foods to my diet as I learn about them. I have been using Graviola or as stated in the posted article "soursop" as a preventative measure against cancer. I figure it really could not hurt. It can be purchased at this web site http://www.herbdealer.com/macamart/proddetail.php?prod=FG00393&cat=15

For over 20 years I have been experimenting in holistic health. I was raised on a diet of whole foods, mainly organic. I am over 50 and most people who meet me mistake me for more than a decade younger than I am. This is also reflected in my skin, weight, spirit and energy. I have no disease or health problems with exception to occasional accidents. I rarely feel ill and rarely use any over-the-counter medicines. However, I am not perfect and will indulge in what I consider a rather unclean diet, but usually get back on track after either gaining a few pounds, getting ezema or feeling low energy.

I believe in detoxing the body and feel this is the best way to eliminate the toxins that contribute to the production of cancer cells in the body. We really need to listen to our bodies, but to listen, we need to work hard to eliminate the years of neglect to understand what feeling well is actually like.  I highly recommend the Anti-Aging Manual by Joseph B. Marion. My book has a broken binding it has been referred to so many times - a wealth of information. I also recommend Eat Right for Your Blood Type. When I use this diet method I can take off pounds rather quickly and feel rather energetic. There is lot to be learned about who we are when one learns about their blood, it can really point to our genetics and why one method of healing is not necessarily the right method for another. When I have the time and money I hope to go back to school to study to be an official holistic practitioner and to own a farm where I can grow medicinal herbs. I wish I would have known when I was young I would have had such a passion for natural health.

Psychology Today Fighting Cancer with Science and Nature
Why natural agents that kill cancer cells warrant further investigation
Published on July 10, 2011 by Christopher Lane, Ph.D. in Side Effects

In the U.S. (and across the West, more generally), we are understandably suspicious of medical hoaxes and scams, given the damage they can cause. Our media and pundits try to weed out medical assertions that are unsupported by science. The Internet, in particular, abounds with dubious products whose untested, often wildly oversold effects can easily persuade the unthinking and the credulous to part with their cash.

Yet as someone who follows and comments on developments in especially psychiatry, I frequently am struck by the faith we place in products that come with FDA approval, but a litany of unpleasant, sometimes risky side effects. When, for example, millions of men across America are willing to "double their risk of hearing loss" and jeopardize their eyesight for an erection, as recent studies warn about those routinely taking Viagra, you know that potency is something we take very seriously as a people and culture. Seriously enough to tune out such warnings and opt unthinkingly for a blue pill, rather than a wealth of natural aphrodisiacs whose effect is basically identical—minus, of course, the nasty health risks.

When our knowledge of natural products is also limited, even impoverished, by cultural biases that skew toward pharmaceuticals, our information-base shrinks accordingly. We ignore the well-known medicinal properties of vast amounts of natural products and end up placing enormous faith in pills whose very advertisements are forced to devote significant amounts of time and space to a laundry list of side effects. (The U.S. shares with New Zealand the dubious distinction of being the only Western countries to allow direct-to-consumer advertising of psychotropic pharmaceuticals.)

Because I also spend large amounts of time in South America, in particular Peru, from where I'm blogging this summer, cultural differences in medicine and public health can be especially striking. From here, over the last few weeks, I've been able to follow with intense interest the arguments both for and against naturally existing cancer-fighting agents, such as the leaves of the guanabana tree (hereafter known as "graviola"). From all that I've been able to investigate, from PubMed to the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health, my sense is that the leaves of this remarkably promising fruit should be getting more rather than less attention from the scientific community. Yet though in Perú graviola is routinely part of a cancer-fighting arsenal, along with chemotherapy, in the States the latter prevails, eclipsing more or less all other options.

First, some key background. About three years ago, word spread rapidly on the web about the cancer-fighting properties of "graviola," the leaves of the guanabana tree (Annona muricata), also known as "soursop," "cherimoya," "custard apple," and "Brazilian paw paw." The tree grows in Peru, Colombia, and Brazil, as well as countries in sub-Saharan Africa and South-East Asia with similarly temperate climates. In all of these countries, the fruit is eaten widely; it is often put in shakes and fruit salads, because it is so delicious. Additionally, the leaves and fruit are frequently used to treat viruses, infections, and depression. There is also, apparently, limited production of the fruit in southern Florida.

As millions of people suffer from all kinds of cancers, for which we have treatments such as radiation and chemotherapy (generally, with terrible side effects) but no cure, interest in and demand for graviola, in particular, skyrocketed around 2008 when reports of its efficacy started to rise. At the same time, some small businesses and a few hucksters, generally selling graviola with a host of other products (essiac tea, burdock root, sheep sorrel, blue-green algae, and so on), overstated their medicinal effects, whose accuracy had also been exaggerated in all the hubbub and excitement. Very quickly, a treatment known to kill some cancer cells and tumors (see below) morphed inaccurately into assurance about cancer's cure.

As rapidly as excitement had skyrocketed, skeptics rushed to denounce the "cancer cure" as a fraud and scam afflicting the needy, the desperate, and the gullible. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) swooped in to fine and close various businesses that had unwisely reported an ability to cure cancer. And in September 2008, Medical News Today publicized the FTC's actions, quoting its director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection, Lydia Parkes, as saying: "There is no credible scientific evidence that any of the products marketed by these companies can prevent, cure, or treat cancer of any kind" (my emphases).

The only problem with Parkes's blanket dismissal of all these elements is that, in the case of graviola at least, her claim wasn't in fact true.

In 1976, as Richard D. McCarthy, MD, reports on the encyclopedic cancer website U.S. Cancer Centers: Cancer Center Information and Research, "The NCI or the National Cancer Institute did some research on the guanabana cancer cure [sic] and came up with some interesting results. The study . . . showed that the leaves and stems of the plant were incredibly efficient at destroying certain cancerous cells in the body."

Inexplicably," another site notes, "the results [of the NCI research] were published in an internal report and never released to the public. Since 1976, guanabana has proven to be an immensely potent cancer killer in 20 independent laboratory tests, but as of now, no double-blind clinical trials. [However], a study published in the Journal of Natural Products, following a recent study conducted at Catholic University of South Korea, stated that one chemical in guanabana was found to selectively kill colon cancer cells at '10,000 times the potency of (the commonly used chemotherapy drug) Adriamycin. '... The most significant part of the Catholic University of South Korea report is that guanabana was shown to selectively target the cancer cells, leaving healthy cells untouched."

Adds the same site, "A study at Purdue University, Indiana, recently found that leaves from the guanabana tree killed cancer cells among six human cell lines and were especially effective against prostate, pancreatic and lung cancers." The article, "Paw Paw and Cancer: Annonaceous Acetogenins from Discovery to Commercial Products," appearing in Journal of Natural Products 71.7 in 2008, was authored by Dr. Jerry L. McLaughlin of Purdue's Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology. The journal is published by the American Chemical Society and American Society of Pharmacognosy (copyright restrictions prevent me from circulating the article in question).

In response to the predictably enormous rise in public interest in graviola, Cancer Research UK also released a statement about the alleged cancer "cure" that included these sentences:

"In laboratory studies, graviola extracts can kill some types of liver and breast cancer cells that are resistant to particular chemotherapy drugs. But there haven't been any large-scale studies in humans. So we don't know yet whether it can work as a cancer treatment or not. Overall, there is no evidence to show that graviola works as a cure for cancer."

On the basis of the laboratory studies quoted here, with Cancer Research UK acknowledging that "graviola extracts can kill some types of liver and breast cancer cells," you might think that such preliminary but hopeful results would at least warrant further investigation. As the site states, "we don't know yet," implying a desire for further research, but also essentially acknowledging ignorance because of the rather astonishing absence of "large-scale studies in humans."

Think Spice: 8 Spices with Health Benefits

470_2602863.jpg

By Jessica Girdwain

If you've ever tried chia seed pudding, you know that superfood doesn't always equal superdelicious. Before you buy another bag of something that looks as if it belongs in a bird feeder, consider this: Just a pinch of oregano can turn even grilled cheese into a disease-fighting dish. "Technically, spices are vegetables in concentrated form," says Wendy Bazilian, RD, the nutrition adviser for the Golden Door Spa & Fitness Resort in Escondido, California. "Like veggies, they contain thousands of healthy phytonutrient compounds, including antioxidants." But spices are calorie-free and require no prep. Pop the tops on these eight pronto.

Curry Powder
Health Perks

The starring role in this blend of herbs and spices belongs to turmeric, which contains curcumin, a powerful anti-inflammatory "that's 50 times more potent than vitamin C or E," says Bharat Aggarwal, PhD, a professor at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and the author of Healing Spices. In fact, one study shows that curcumin inhibits the growth of certain breast cancer cells, and other research suggests it may also protect against stomach and colon cancer.

How to Use It
• Rub curry powder on halibut, tilapia, or pork loin before roasting.
• Try it in this light-but-luscious soup recipe from Aliya LeeKong, the culinary creative director and chef for Junoon restaurant in New York City: Place two halved and seeded butternut squashes cut side up on a baking sheet; drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and roast at 400 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes. Meanwhile, over medium heat, sauté two onions, chopped; three garlic cloves, minced; two tablespoons of curry powder; and salt to taste in one tablespoon of olive oil until the onions are soft. Working in two batches, scoop the roasted squash into a blender and puree with the cooked onion mixture, six cups of chicken broth, and one-third cup of crème fraîche until smooth.

Rosemary
Health Perks

While grilling and sautéing require little to no added fat, cooking at high temps produces compounds called heterocyclic amines, which are harmful free radicals that may cause cancer, explains Hannah El-Amin, RD, a dietitian at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Luckily, marinating meat in a mixture made with rosemary before firing it up prevents the formation of heterocyclic amines by as much as 84 percent, a study at Kansas State University found.

How to Use It
• Combine two tablespoons of olive oil; one-half cup of lemon juice; half a garlic clove, minced; and one tablespoon of rosemary to make a marinade for chicken or steak.
• Mix together equal parts rosemary, thyme, and oregano, and rub the mixture directly onto chicken breasts, suggests Limor Baum, a registered dietitian in New York City.

Oregano
Health Perks

"I think of dried oregano leaves as miniature salad greens," Bazilian says. One teaspoon contains not only six micrograms of bone-building vitamin K but also the same amount of antioxidants as three cups of spinach. And preliminary research indicates that oregano can help fend off stomach flu. "Bacteria often hitch a ride on the food we eat, and oregano may keep them from multiplying and making us sick," Bazilian says.

How to Use It
• To make salad dressing, heat one tablespoon of olive oil, a pinch of red pepper flakes, and one-half teaspoon of oregano in a small pan over medium-low heat for two minutes, or until the mixture smells fragrant, Baum says. Drizzle over spinach with a splash of red wine vinegar.
• Give canned soup an upgrade by stirring in one-half teaspoon of oregano.

Cinnamon
Health Perks

A seesawing blood sugar level can drive hunger and cravings; the antioxidant compounds in cinnamon help prevent those spikes and dips by improving the way your cells metabolize glucose, El-Amin says. What's more, research shows that eating half a teaspoon of cinnamon daily reduces risk factors for diabetes and heart disease within six weeks.

How to Use It
• Baum tops baked sweet potatoes with a dash each of cinnamon and nutmeg.
• The spice pairs well with lentils, says LeeKong. She cooks one cup of dried green lentils in two cups of vegetable stock with a cinnamon stick (which is removed before serving) for a hearty side dish.

Ginger
Health Perks

Besides helping to settle an upset stomach, this peppery spice can also lessen workout-induced soreness: People who consumed one teaspoon of ground ginger daily for 11 days experienced a 25 percent reduction in exercise-related muscle pain compared with those taking a placebo, one study shows. (Gingerol, a chemical in ginger, is thought to reduce inflammation and block nerve pathways that process pain.) And Thai researchers recently found that middle-aged women who took a daily ginger supplement for two months exhibited a greater attention span and scored higher on memory tests than women who took a placebo.

How to Use It
• Add one-eighth teaspoon of ground ginger to pancake, waffle, or muffin batter, Bazilian suggests, or sprinkle the spice over applesauce or toast with peanut butter.
• For a 160-calorie dessert, sprinkle ground ginger over one-half cup of vanilla frozen yogurt topped with half a small pear, sliced.

Nutmeg
Health Perks

Despite having a hint of sweetness, this spice may help prevent cavities. "Your mouth is a hotbed of bacteria, and nutmeg fights the germs with antibacterial compounds," Bazilian says. Chief among them is macelignan, which reduces plaque formation by 50 percent and eradicates cavity-producing microbes, according to Italian researchers. Additionally, nutmeg is rich in protective anti-inflammatory compounds that can lower your risk of cancer by stifling tumor growth, Aggarwal says.

How to Use It
• Add one-fourth teaspoon of ground nutmeg to ground coffee.
• Bazilian makes slow-cooker chili with one-fourth teaspoon of ground nutmeg, one-half pound of ground turkey or chicken, browned; two 14-ounce cans of chickpeas, drained and rinsed; two 14-ounce cans of diced tomatoes; one-fourth teaspoon of cinnamon; one-eighth teaspoon of garlic powder; and salt and pepper to taste cooked on low for four to six hours.

Cayenne Pepper
Health Perks

Talk about red hot: Capsaicin, the compound that gives cayenne its burn, also "helps crank up your body's thermostat, firing up your metabolism and helping you burn extra calories and fat," Bazilian says. In a study at Purdue University, people who added half a teaspoon to their meal ate 70 fewer calories at their next meal and craved fatty, salty foods less.

How to Use It
• Stir a dash of cayenne into a tub of store-bought hummus, sprinkle the spice over whole wheat toast topped with mashed avocado or add one-fourth teaspoon of paprika (another capsaicin-containing spice) and a few shakes of cayenne to air-popped popcorn.
• For a sweet treat, Bazilian recommends savoring an ounce of spicy dark chocolate, like Chocolove Chilies & Cherries in Dark Chocolate or Lindt Excellence Chili Dark Chocolate bar.

Cumin
Health Perks

One tablespoon of these aromatic seeds fulfills 22 percent of your daily requirement for iron, a mineral that helps keep your energy level high and your immune system in flu-fighting shape. And according to preliminary research, cumin may also boost your brainpower: In an animal study, consuming cumin extract was shown to improve performance on memory tests.

How to Use It
• Toss 10 medium carrots, sliced, with two tablespoons of olive oil, two-and-a-half teaspoons of kosher salt, and two teaspoons of cumin seeds; roast at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes.
• Toast one-half teaspoon of cumin seeds in a pan for about five minutes over medium-high heat, then add them to a pot of rice before cooking, LeeKong says.

Keep It Spicy
Just like fresh produce, spices pack less of a punch -- for your taste buds and your health -- over time. Here's how to make sure yours have plenty of kick.

Read the fine print.
Most spices have a "best by" date on the bottle. If they don't, write the date of purchase on the cap. Toss dried herbs and ground spices after two years and whole spices after three.

Keep your cool.
Moisture and heat can suck the life out of your spices fast, so store them in a dark, relatively cool and dry place (that is, not above your stove), Limor Baum, RD, says.

Whole up.
When possible, purchase whole spices, like black peppercorns and cumin seeds, and grind them yourself as needed with a mortar and pestle or a spice or coffee grinder.

Show off.
Keeping your spices organized can prevent you from leaning too heavily on salt. Clean out your junk drawer and fit it with an in-drawer rack (find one at containerstore.com).

To add to Bumper's post above on spices, received the following today through Facebook. Some eye openers here too!

20 Pain Killers in your Kitchen

A GREAT ALTERNATIVE TO TAKING MEDICATION!!!!
20 Painkillers in Your Kitchen

Make muscle pain a memory with ginger

When Danish researchers asked achy people to jazz up their diets with ginger, it eased muscle and joint pain, swelling and stiffness for up to 63 percent of them within two months. Experts credit ginger’s potent compounds called gingerols, which prevent the production of pain-triggering hormones. The study-recommended dose: Add at least 1 teaspoon of dried ginger or 2 teaspoons of chopped ginger to meals daily.

Cure a toothache with cloves

Got a toothache and can’t get to the dentist? Gently chewing on a clove can ease tooth pain and gum inflammation for two hours straight, say UCLA researchers. Experts point to a natural compound in cloves called eugenol, a powerful, natural anesthetic. Bonus: Sprinkling a ¼ teaspoon of ground cloves on meals daily may also protect your ticker. Scientists say this simple action helps stabilize blood sugar, plus dampen production of artery-clogging cholesterol in as little as three weeks.

Heal heartburn with cider vinegar

Sip 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar mixed with 8 ounces of water before every meal, and experts say you could shut down painful bouts of heartburn in as little as 24 hours. “Cider vinegar is rich in malic and tartaric acids, powerful digestive aids that speed the breakdown of fats and proteins so your stomach can empty quickly, before food washes up into the esophagus, triggering heartburn pain,” explains Joseph Brasco, M.D., a gastroenterologist at the Center for Colon and Digestive Diseases in Huntsville, AL.

Erase earaches with garlic

Painful ear infections drive millions of Americans to doctors’ offices every year. To cure one fast, just place two drops of warm garlic oil into your aching ear twice daily for five days. This simple treatment can clear up ear infections faster than prescription meds, say experts at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. Scientists say garlic’s active ingredients (germanium, selenium, and sulfur compounds) are naturally toxic to dozens of different pain-causing bacteria. To whip up your own garlic oil gently simmer three cloves of crushed garlic in a half a cup of extra virgin olive oil for two minutes, strain, then refrigerate for up to two weeks, suggests Teresa Graedon, Ph.D., co-author of the book, Best Choices From The People’s Pharmacy. For an optimal experience, warm this mix slightly before using so the liquid will feel soothing in your ear canal.

Chase away joint and headache pain with cherries

Latest studies show that at least one in four women is struggling with arthritis, gout or chronic headaches. If you’re one of them, a daily bowl of cherries could ease your ache, without the stomach upset so often triggered by today’s painkillers, say researchers at East Lansing ’s Michigan State University . Their research reveals that anthocyanins, the compounds that give cherries their brilliant red color, are anti-inflammatories 10 times stronger than ibuprofen and aspirin. “Anthocyanins help shut down the powerful enzymes that kick-start tissue inflammation, so they can prevent, as well as treat, many different kinds of pain,” explains Muraleedharan Nair, Ph.D., professor of food science at Michigan State University . His advice: Enjoy 20 cherries (fresh, frozen or dried) daily, then continue until your pain disappears.

Fight tummy troubles with fish

Indigestion, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel diseases...if your belly always seems to be in an uproar, try munching 18 ounces of fish weekly to ease your misery. Repeated studies show that the fatty acids in fish, called EPA and DHA, can significantly reduce intestinal inflammation, cramping and belly pain and, in some cases, provide as much relief as corticosteroids and other prescription meds. “EPA and DHA are powerful, natural, side effect-free anti-inflammatories, that can dramatically improve the function of the entire gastrointestinal tract,” explains biological chemist Barry Sears, Ph.D., president of the Inflammation Research Foundation in Marblehead , MA . For best results, look for oily fish like salmon, sardines, tuna, mackerel, trout and herring.

Prevent PMS with yogurt

Up to 80 percent of women will struggle with premenstrual syndrome and its uncomfortable symptoms, report Yale researchers. The reason: Their nervous systems are sensitive to the ups and downs in estrogen and progesterone that occur naturally every month. But snacking on 2 cups of yogurt a day can slash these symptoms by 48 percent, say researchers at New York ’s Columbia University . “Yogurt is rich in calcium, a mineral that naturally calms the nervous system, preventing painful symptoms even when hormones are in flux,” explains Mary Jane Minkin, M.D., a professor of gynecology at Yale University .

Tame chronic pain with turmeric

Studies show turmeric, a popular East Indian spice, is actually three times more effective at easing pain than aspirin, ibuprofen or naproxen, plus it can help relieve chronic pain for 50 percent of people struggling with arthritis and even fibromyalgia, according to Cornell researchers. That’s because turmeric’s active ingredient, curcumin, naturally shuts down cyclooxygenase 2, an enzyme that churns out a stream of pain-producing hormones, explains nutrition researcher Julian Whitaker, M.D. and author of the book, Reversing Diabetes. The study-recommended dose: Sprinkle 1/4 teaspoon of this spice daily onto any rice, poultry, meat or vegetable dish.

End endometrial pain with oats

The ticket to soothing endometriosis pain could be a daily bowl of oatmeal. Endometriosis occurs when little bits of the uterine lining detach and grow outside of the uterus. Experts say these migrating cells can turn menstruation into a misery, causing so much inflammation that they trigger severe cramping during your period, plus a heavy ache that drags on all month long. Fortunately, scientists say opting for a diet rich in oats can help reduce endometrial pain for up to 60 percent of women within six months. That’s because oats don’t contain gluten, a trouble-making protein that triggers inflammation in many women, making endometriosis difficult to bear, explains Peter Green, M.D., professor of medicine at Colombia University .

Soothe foot pain with salt

Experts say at least six million Americans develop painful ingrown toenails each year. But regularly soaking ingrown nails in warm salt water baths can cure these painful infections within four days, say scientists at California ’s Stanford University . The salt in the mix naturally nixes inflammation, plus it’s anti-bacterial, so it quickly destroys the germs that cause swelling and pain. Just mix 1 teaspoon of salt into each cup of water, heat to the warmest temperature that you can comfortably stand, and then soak the affected foot area for 20 minutes twice daily, until your infection subsides.

Prevent digestive upsets with pineapple

Got gas? One cup of fresh pineapple daily can cut painful bloating within 72 hours, say researchers at California ’s Stanford University . That's because pineapple is natually packed with proteolytic enzymes, digestive aids that help speed the breakdown of pain-causing proteins in the stomach and small intestine, say USDA researchers.

Relax painful muscles with peppermint

Suffering from tight, sore muscles? Stubborn knots can hang around for months if they aren’t properly treated, says naturopath Mark Stengler, N.D., author of the book, The Natural Physician’s Healing Therapies. His advice: Three times each week, soak in a warm tub scented with 10 drops of peppermint oil. The warm water will relax your muscles, while the peppermint oil will naturally soothe your nerves -- a combo that can ease muscle cramping 25 percent more effectively than over-the-counter painkillers, and cut the frequency of future flare-ups in half, says Stengler.

Give your back some TLC with grapes

Got an achy back? Grapes could be the ticket to a speedy recovery. Recent studies at Ohio State University suggest eating a heaping cup of grapes daily can relax tight blood vessels, significantly improving blood flow to damaged back tissues (and often within three hours of enjoying the first bowl). That’s great news because your back’s vertebrae and shock-absorbing discs are completely dependent on nearby blood vessels to bring them healing nutrients and oxygen, so improving blood flow is essential for healing damaged back tissue, says Stengler.

Wash away pain injuries with water

Whether it’s your feet, your knees or your shoulders that are throbbing, experts at New York ’s Manhattan College , say you could kick-start your recovery in one week just by drinking eight 8-ounce glasses of water daily. Why? Experts say water dilutes, and then helps flush out, histamine, a pain-triggering compound produced by injured tissues. “Plus water is a key building block of the cartilage that cushions the ends of your bones, your joints’ lubricating fluid, and the soft discs in your spine,” adds Susan M. Kleiner, Ph.D., author of the book, The Good Mood Diet. “And when these tissues are well-hydrated, they can move and glide over each other without causing pain.” One caveat: Be sure to measure your drinking glasses to find out how large they really are before you start sipping, she says. Today’s juice glasses often hold more than 12 ounces, which means five servings could be enough to meet your daily goal.

Heal sinus problems with horseradish

Latest studies show sinusitis is the nation’s number one chronic health problem. And this condition doesn’t just spur congestion and facial pain, it also makes sufferers six times more likely to feel achy all-over. Horseradish to the rescue! According to German researchers, this eye-watering condiment naturally revs up blood flow to the sinus cavities, helping to open and drain clogged sinuses and heal sinus infections more quickly than decongestant sprays do. The study-recommended dose: One teaspoon twice daily (either on its own, or used as a sandwich or meat topping) until symptoms clear.

Beat bladder infections with blueberries

Eating 1 cup of blueberries daily, whether you opt for them fresh, frozen or in juice form, can cut your risk of a urinary tract infection (UTIs) by 60 percent, according to researchers at New Jersey’s Rutgers University. That's because blueberries are loaded with tannins, plant compounds that wrap around problem-causing bacteria in the bladder, so they can’t get a toehold and create an infection, explains Amy Howell, Ph.D. a scientist at Rutgers University .

Heal mouth sores with honey

Dab painful canker and cold sores with unpasteurized honey four times daily until these skin woes disappear, and they’ll heal 43 percent faster than if you use a prescription cream, say researchers at the Dubai Specialized Medical Center in the United Arab Emirates . Raw honey’s natural enzymes zap inflammation, destroy invading viruses and speed the healing of damaged tissues, say the study authors.

Fight breast pain with flax

In one recent study, adding 3 tablespoons of ground flax to their daily diet eased breast soreness for one in three women within 12 weeks. Scientists credit flax’s phytoestrogens, natural plant compounds that prevent the estrogen spikes that can trigger breast pain. More good news: You don’t have to be a master baker to sneak this healthy seed into your diet. Just sprinkle ground flax on oatmeal, yogurt, applesauce or add it to smoothies and veggie dips.

Cure migraines with coffee

Prone to migraines? Try muscling-up your painkiller with a coffee chaser. Whatever over-the-counter pain med you prefer, researchers at the National Headache Foundation say washing it down with a strong 12- ounce cup of coffee will boost the effectiveness of your medication by 40 percent or more. Experts say caffeine stimulates the stomach lining to absorb painkillers more quickly and more effectively.

Tame leg cramps with tomato juice

At least one in five people regularly struggle with leg cramps. The culprit? Potassium deficiencies, which occur when this mineral is flushed out by diuretics, caffeinated beverages or heavy perspiration during exercise. But sip 10 ounces of potassium-rich tomato juice daily and you'll not only speed your recovery, you'll reduce your risk of painful cramp flare-ups in as little as 10 days, say UCLA researchers.

One of the thing I was told by one of my mentors was to increase my water intake 1/2 of my body weight in ounces.  In other words - I weigh 220 lbs (working on it - that's down from 238 about 6 weeks  ago) so I divide by 2 - at least 110 ounces of water a day.  Makes it just short of a gallon (128 ounces) - which is what I shoot for each day.  I know I can tell the days I don't get enough.

I just checked out The Catholic University of South Korea website briefly. What they had to say was a little less positive than the feedback here. Big warning don't eat the seeds, or grind up the seeds, as they contain some sort of neurotoxin that builds up over some time period then neuro-degenerative diseases. They say no link to anti-cancer statements at this time. Just search on Catholic University of South Korea, and search on graviola and sour sop and see for yourself.

Very interesting indeed! Water or Coke? We all know that water is important but I’ve never seen it written down like this before.

WATER
1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.

2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.

3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one’s metabolism as much as 30%.

4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.

5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

And now for the properties of COKE

1. In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the truck to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.

2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and it will be gone in two days.

3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the “real thing” sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.

4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.

6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.

8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.

For Your Info
1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. Its pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days. Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in osteoporosis.

2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial truck must use the Hazardous material place cards reserved for Highly corrosive materials.

3. The distributors of coke have been using it to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years!

Now the question is, would you like a glass of water or coke?

Pepsi, please! ;)

Thanks, Bumper!

I've read this before, so I limit myself to one 12 oz can of Pepsi a day, drink water all day long. After I had kkid #9, I drank half my weight in ounces of water and lost about 20 pounds in 6 months. I changed little else, eating habits remained the same (poor at best, altho I did cut down to 2 cans of Pepsi a day at that point), exercise was a walk around the block a few times a week, nothing else. I had someone argue with me that since fat is not water soluble, it wasn't the water that helped me lose the weight. Whatever. It worked. The key may have been cutting down my Pepsi intake, I dunno. I didn't drink that much before, though, maybe 3 cans a day.

Ever notice how much cinnamon is in Coke? I never noticed it til I was pregnant with kkid #6. Did the old Pepsi/Coke challenge and gagged on the Coke.

Now, where did I put my water bottle?

Oh my gosh, A friend of mine just called to tell me his cancer has come back for the third time.  His is truly a story of miracles. He had renal cancer that went to his adrenal glands and he also had a blockage in his vena cava. The 1st time the drs. told him there was nothing they could do and sent him home.  He got a 2nd opinion and was able to get into a research program.  He made it into remission for 2 yrs. The 2nd time he was told he only had 2 months to live, by the grace of God he survived.  He did a combination of western and alternative medicines.  This time it is in his lung and his levels are too high to start a new protocol.  I am going to tell him about this fruit IMMEDIATELY!!!!!  I will also pray that this, as well as God's grace, will saved him one more time. Anyone know how easy it is to get this fruit in the U.S.  Are the pills, dried leaves as good as the actual fresh fruit??

Hi guys, Hey my wife just found out she has lung cancer but has not spread to any other organs as of yet,but she is

seriously thinking of this B-17 or laetril as it is called or amygdalin which is from the apricot seed which is inside the

seed itself crack open open the seed and there it is looks like an almond except smaller and not so hard but our

wonderful govt. thinks this is harmful because it has cyanide in it which attacks the cancer cells and only the cancer cells

leaves the good ones intact, along with some good nutrients, there are over 350 protocols in treating cancer and only 3

of the orthodox way of treating and those are cut, poison, and burn and 2 of those are known to cause cancer! If you want

some good info go to:  cancertutor.com  lots of good info. But also diet is very important, also go to:  drleonardcoldwell.com

hope this helps someone.

One of the newest directions they are taking with cancer - among a number of other diseases - is Redox therapy. (I'm not surprised - but I've been ahead of the power curve in that deparment for a couple of years.)

Redox dysregulation originating from metabolic alterations and dependence on mitogenic and survival signaling through reactive oxygen species represents a specific vulnerability of malignant cells that can be selectively targeted. Basically what they are saying is if they can get the cancerous cells back to Redox homeostasis, balancing out the ROS production, the malignant cells tend to kill themselves.

Some more information can be found in another thread here.

Give me a PM if your interested in finding out more about the Redox sciences and Redox supplementation.
