Seven states qualify for secession response from White House

It looks like Obama now is going to have to respond. WASHINGTON - Citizens from more than 40 states have filed petitions with the White House seeking to secede from the union, and by Wednesday, seven states had gathered enough signatures to qualify for a response to the largely symbolic protest.

The petitions, which have been signed by a small percentage of state residents, have virtually no chance of succeeding. The United States' bloodiest conflict, the 1861-1865 Civil War, erupted after 11 states withdrew from the union.

The White House has set up a "We the People" page on its website that allows Americans to file petitions on issues of concern. If a petition collects 25,000 signatures, the website says, the administration will review and respond to it.

The petition filed by Texas residents has racked up about 100,000 signatures. Six others from Louisiana, Florida, North Carolina, Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee have collected 30,000.

Among the seven states, only Florida gave its electoral votes to Democratic President Barack Obama in last week's election.

The Texas petition says the United States is suffering from economic troubles stemming from the federal government's failure to reform spending. It also complains of alleged rights abuses committed by agencies like the Transportation Security Administration.

"Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union," it said.

A counter-petition has been filed calling for the state capital Austin to secede from Texas and remain part of the United States.

Well, I live in Texas, and the only reason there is a balanced budget here is because of Federal money and short-changing things like public education and infrastructure.

Louisiana is really funny. If it weren't for $150 billion in Federal disaster aid after Katrina, half of the state would still be a waste land.

This alone should bear out the fact that the election numbers in Florida are skewed.

Over-voting, rigged machines, illegal voters, just to name a few of the reasons he

"TOOK" Florida.

If every person whose vote was discounted signed the Petition for this State was vetted by the white house

and found to be a LEGAL Voter, the numbers would prove he STOLE Florida.

This is no hanging chad situation... this is outright theft of the election in this State.

when they try to secede EXILED from the rest of the USA. Now its ok to file a petition for your gripes but I do hope

they get at least 1 state and herd them into to it. They can call there new state MITTPITT

If these folks would just do things the civil way and keep writing to the President there problems are legit and our wasteful

government spending would get attention.Start voting out the bums who are screwing the goose that lays the

golden egg and put the right people in there positions.There is a right way but secession of the union is way out there

and is wrong.I dont like to laugh at folks and I dont want any harm to come to them but if you keep it up they will come

for you and you can count on that.Make sure you hand write your letters and they will be addressed one at a time.

Collect as many signatures as possible even I will sign those petitions but secession is crazy.And you wont get any

secession no way possible in these days to get such a thing.People will never pull together for that.
